QUETTA: The second phase of local government (LG) elections started in 32 districts of Balochistan province on Wednesday.
In the second phase of elections, the councilors elected during the first phase would cast their votes for the reserved seats of seven municipal corporations, 48 municipal committees, and 597 union councils.
The polling will continue till 5 pm without any break. Strict security measures have been made on the directions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) around the polling stations.
The voting is being held for 33 percent of seats allocated for women, and 5 percent each for farmers, labors, and non-Muslims. A total of 597 polling stations have been set up across the province for elections to reserve seats.
1,421 women candidates will be elected on women-reserved seats, while elected representatives will cast their votes for 553 seats after being elected unopposed.
It should be noted that out of 4,788 reserved seats in 32 districts of Balochistan, 2577 candidates have been elected unopposed while polling is underway on 1512 seats.
In Balochistan, women will be elected on 516 seats out of 2082, while 1,554 candidates have already been elected unopposed.
Out of 902 seats of farmers, 428 candidates have been elected unopposed while elections in 474 seats are underway.
Out of 902 labor seats, 421 candidates have been elected unopposed and polling is being held on 481 seats, while 174 candidates have been elected unopposed out of 902 reserved for non-Muslims, and polling for 41 seats is underway.
