ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday reserved the decision on the local government (LG) polls in Islamabad and remarked that the court cannot interfere in the ECP jurisdictions.
A hearing was held in IHC regarding the delay in LG polls in the capital and Chief Justice IHC Aamer Farooq heard the case.
CJ IHC said that the elections should have been held on time as the tenure was completed in 2020 but the government in power has no interest in holding the LG elections.
The Director General Election Commission said that the number of union councils were increase after the LG polls scheduled and requested that the elections should be held as per previous schedule.
On the occasion, chief justice remarked that the court cannot interfere in the matters of ECP and reserved the decision.
Earlier, Islamabad High Court was moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) seeking the postponement of the local government elections in Islamabad.
