Federal Govt hands over Green Line Bus Service to Sindh soon

KARACHI: The Federal Government will hand over the Green Line Bus Service to the Sindh Government in December 2024.

A high-level meeting was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The Sindh Government has finalized preparations to assume control of the Green Line’s operations.

During meeting, the operations of the Green Line Bus Service were thoroughly reviewed, and Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon received a comprehensive briefing on the Green Line project. A detailed discussion was also held on the plan to connect the Green Line with the Orange Line project.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon directed the swift completion of the project connecting the Green Line with the Orange Line.

The meeting also covered discussions on the Sindh Government’s ongoing operations in the public transport sector, utility services, and subsidies for the Green Line Bus Service.

He stated that the Sindh Government aims to complete the project connecting the Green Line to the Orange Line before December 2024.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon noted that the Federal Government is currently providing an annual subsidy of 2 billion rupees for the operations of the Green Line, which the Sindh Government will review.

Sindh makes biometric verification mandatory for vehicles registration

KARACHI: Sindh Government has made biometric verification has been made mandatory for registration and transfers of vehicles.

Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has made biometric verification mandatory for vehicle registration and transfer. Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that biometric verification will be done in registration and transfer of new and old vehicles.

The senior minister said that under the new policy, the change will be implemented in 3 phases, in the first phase from July 1, biometrics will be mandatory for new vehicle registration and in the second phase, biometric verification of vehicle buyers will be done from November 1.

He said that in the third phase, there will be biometric verification of the vehicle seller and the buyer. Sharjeel Memon said government is working for more transparency in the excise department and this is just the beginning.

Sindh Excise Department decides to introduce online tax system

KARACHI: Sindh Excise Department on Saturday decided to introduce online tax system and connecting it to One Link.

A meeting of the Excise and Taxation Department was held under the chairmanship of Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel  Inam Memon, in which a briefing was also given on other taxes including property tax and professional tax.

Sharjeel Memon directed the authorities to complete property tax, professional tax and other tax targets and ordered suspension and other disciplinary action against defaulting employees.

In the briefing, the provincial minister was told that notices have been issued to 82 officers for not showing improvement in achieving the target.

In the meeting, Sharjeel Memon was informed about the progress of the preparation of premium number plates, during which it was decided to issue 10 premium numbers in platinum category, 11 in gold category and 10 in silver category.

Sharjeel Memon directed that the online payment system should be started to make the tax system easier. The tax system should be connected to One Link as soon as possible for the convenience of the people.

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday inspected under construction Malir Expressway and other ongoing development projects of Karachi city.

Murad Ali Shah inspected the Malir Expressway at the City School chapter. Talking during his visit Sindh’s chief minister said, “it is 50 kilometers long road from Qayyumabad-KPT Interchange to M-9 Kathore”.

He said that the issue of traffic jams will resolve with the construction of the Malir Expressway. “Malir Expressway being constructed with the cost of 29 billion rupees,” he added.

CM Sindh also inspected Malir Expressway at Deh Drigh and directed officials to remove encroachments from the area to increase the construction work of the road.

Murad said that the People’s Party will inaugurate Malir Expressway after six to eight months. “It will be the first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project of Pakistan to be operated without subsidy,” Sindh CM said.

The chief minister said that biogas is being used as fuel in the project. He said that the engineers have promised to complete the fly-over project by March 23.

“They were giving a deadline for completion of the Underpass, me told them to complete it soon,” Shah stated.

“Mashriq Chowk Road at Hawkes Bay has been completed, while KNIB project Kakri Ground will also compete this year,” he said.

“The work has been underway on the treatment plant under the Public Private Partnership mode,” he added.

KARACHI: Information Minister of Sindh Sharjeel Inaam Memon released a report of the havoc caused by the floods and relief activities across the province since August 20, BOL News reported on Wednesday. 

According to the details, Sharjeel Memon in his report says that 1718 relief camps are functioning for the victims in the flood-affected districts and 534,955 victims have been shifted to these relief camps.

He said that 296 relief camps have been established in Hyderabad Division, 579 in Shaheed Benazirabad Division, 52 in Mirpur Khas Division, 269 in Sukkur Division, 481 in Larkana Division, and 41 in Karachi Division. Medicines and other facilities are being provided in the camps for the affectees.

Sharjeel Memon claimed that 212,505 tents have been distributed to the victims so far and 1,541,937 mosquito nets, 419,121 ration bags, 4,493 folding beds, and 1,350 stoves have also been distributed to flood affectees.

The provincial minister said that philanthropists and welfare organizations should contact the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for the distribution of relief goods, through the guidance of PDMA they can reach the deserving and needy people.

Sindh Information Minister says that till now 638 people have died due to rains while 8321 people have been injured.

Moreover, he said that 1,541,724 houses have also been damaged due to rains, while crops grown on 3,433,115 acres in the province have been destroyed.

Liquor recovery case: Court summons Sharjeel Memon on Sept. 5

The City Court has directed Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon to appear before the court on September 5 in liquor recovery case.

Sharjeel Memon skipped today’s court appearance and submitted a plea for exemption from a court appearance. However, the court only granted a single day exemption from a court appearance and directed him to ensure his appearance before the court on September 5.

The court has also summoned witnesses of the prosecution on the same date.

Earlier this year, Memon along with four accused were indicted in the recovery of liquor bottles case.

The PPP leader, his three servants – Shakar Din, Mushtaque Ali and Muhammad Jam -, Central Jail, Karachi assistant superintendent Naseem Ahmed and Habib Ahmed had been named as accused in the investigation report.

Last year on September 1, chief justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had paid a surprise visit to the Ziauddin Hospital where he found three bottles of liquor in the room of the incarcerated PPP leader.

Subsequently, Memon was shifted to Central Jail, Karachi and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him with the Darakshan police station.
