Punjab cabinet likely to expand soon

LAHORE: The Punjab Government has also decided to expand soon as Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has finalized consultation on names the new ministers.

After the federal cabinet, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) decided to include more ministers in the Punjab cabinet.

Nawaz Sharif has approved the names of the twelve members, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Rana Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Mansha Ullah Butt, Ayub Gadhi will be part of the provincial cabinet.

Salman Naeem, Rana Tahir Iqbal, Iftikhar Hussain, Rana Mohammed Arshid are also on the list, while Malik Asad Ali Khokhar, Malik Asif Bha, Usama Leghari and Shoaib Siddiqui have also been shortlisted for the cabinet.

Cabinet newcomers are expected to take oath this week.

It is to be noted that it has been a year to the government of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Currently, the cabinet of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has comprised on 16 -member, of which 5 are special advisors.

In the cabinet, seven ministers belong to Lahore while the remaining 9 ministers are from other districts of Punjab.

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has contacted Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI)  leader Assad Qaisar, inviting him to participate negotiation.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq made another attempt for continuation of negotiation between government and PTI, talking to PTI leader Asad Qaiser over the telephone and invited him to attend the meeting of the negotiating committee, but PTI gave any concrete assurance to attend the talks.

Earlier, Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Khan announced the speaker not to attend the talks.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz(PML-N) leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui says that if PTI does not become part of the meeting today. The speaker will dissolve the committee and the government will respond to what the PTI will do.

It is to be noted that the PTI has announced to end the talks with the government and the Speaker’s Secretary has also informed about his decision.

3rd round of talks between PTI, govt to be held today

ISLAMABAD: The third round of talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) will be held today.

The meeting will be held at Parliament House, which will be chaired by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. In the meeting, PTI will present its demands in writing.

The PTI committee has taken complete instructions from the founding PTI regarding the meeting, and has given its demands in writing in the light of these instructions.

On the other hand, sources in the government committee said  that after PTI’s demands come forward, we will also take our own leadership into confidence.

Earlier, Rana Sanaullah of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) has advised the PTI to act with restraint in today’s negotiations and said that which people do the PTI consider as political prisoners.

Rana Sanaullah said that these things may take time and hoped PTI will give its terms regarding the list of prisoners and the judicial commission.

He said that he will respond to PTI’s written demands after consulting the party and its allies.

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) Lahore indicted 31 accused including Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf leaders in the case of burning the office of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The hearing of the case related to the burning of the PML-N office in Lahore was heard by Judge Arshad Javed of the anti-terrorism court. Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mahmoud-ul-Rashid, Umar Sarfaraz, Ejaz Chaudhry and others were presented from jail while Sanam Javed appeared for attendance.

The court indicted Dr Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Ejaz Chaudhry and Mian Mahmood-ul-Rashid, Sanam Javed and other accused were also indicted.

All the accused, including the PTI leaders, denied the crime.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till January 23. Further proceedings of the case related to the burning of the office of PML-N in Lahore will be held in Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Second round of PTI-govt dialogue to be held today

ISLAMABAD: The second round of talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf(PTI) will be held today(Thursday).

A closed-door meeting chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will be held at Parliament House at 3:30 pm today.

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur will also join today’s talks, Tehreek-e-Insaf will present its charter of demand.

According to sources, PTI will raise the issue of the release of the founding chairman and the release of other prisoners.

Sources say that PTI will demand a judicial commission to investigate the incidents of May 9 and November 26.

On the other hand, the government will implement its plan in the light of the Charter of Demand.

PML-N’s former UC Chairman shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: Former Union Council (UC) Chairman of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) was shot dead in Baldia Town area of Karachi.

One person was killed in a firing near Baldia Town No. 7 in Karachi, the victim was identified as 65-year-old Amanullah Afridi. Police say that the incident seems to be a case of personal enmity.

The police said that the deceased belonged to the PML-N and was a candidate in the local body election from UC-5 Abidabad.

The deceased was targeted while leaving the mosque after offering the Fajr prayer and later the body has been shifted to the hospital.

CCTV footage of the incident was obtained by law enforcement agencies, in the footage, the accused can be seen firing at Amanullah, the police have recovered bullet shells from the scene.

The crime scene unit has collected the evidence from the scene.

The police say that the incident seems to be a case of personal enmity, but the victim’s son said that we have no enmity with anyone.

The text of the resolution states that PTI has once again committed violent acts in recent days and created political chaos in the country.

Mir Saleem Khosa said that PTI is causing anxiety and suffering to the people through political chaos, which must be ended.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a committee in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for cooperation in political and other matters.

The committee formed by the prime minister includes federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Azam Nazir Tarar, Ahad Khan Cheema, Ameer Makam, Rana Sanaullah, Malik Ahmad Khan, Maryam Aurangzeb, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Jaffar Khan Mandokhel and Bashir Memon.

The Prime Minister has entrusted the committee with the responsibility of consultation, political cooperation and problem solving with the PPP.

On the other hand, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, formed a committee for talks with the federal government.

It should be noted that in the past few days Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had said that there is no respect in the federation, no politics, and no agreement is being implemented.

Bilawal Bhutto lamented that he was busy with the 26th amendment and Punjab government had approved canals.

After that, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed to remove Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s concerns and gave this responsibility to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has nominated four parliamentarians from upper and lower houses for Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP).

The Speaker has written a letter to the Supreme Judicial Commission(SJC) on the issue of forming the Judicial Commission for the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court, in which the nomination of the parliamentary parties has been informed.

According to the National Assembly Secretariat, opposition leader Omar Ayub and Sheikh Aftab of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have been nominated for the Judicial Commission.

It has been informed by the National Assembly Secretariat that Farooq H. Naek and Shibli Faraz have been nominated for the Judicial Commission from the Senate, while Roshan Khursheed Bharucha has been nominated for the woman’s seat.

The JCP will appoint judges to the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Federal Shariat Court. It will also oversee the performance of High Court judges and prepare their annual performance evaluations.

According to the spokesperson of the National Assembly, after the approval of the 26th amendment, the Judicial Commission includes five members of Parliament and all the nominations have been sent to the Secretary Judicial Commission while all the nominations have been received by the Supreme Court.

The spokesperson said that there is equal representation of the government and the opposition in the names sent from the parliament.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Government has decided to maintain Special Parliamentary Committee to table another constitutional amendment, colloquially known as the 27th amendment, aimed at reforming local governments and addressing issues skipped in previous legislation.

The ruling coalition led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to maintain a Special Parliamentary Committee on the issue of the proposed 27th amendment.

Sources said the final decision regarding the proposed constitutional amendment will be taken by the parliamentary committee.

All parliamentary parties are represented in the committee chaired by Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah. A consultation between the PML-N and Pakistan People’s Party is expected today to bring the proposed amendment.

Government sources said that the leaders of the two parties will meet today on the sidelines of the National Assembly session.

However, no time frame has been given yet for bringing the 27th amendment, the amendment will be brought by consensus of all parties.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Supremo Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has postponed his visit to London in view of the constitutional amendment.

Sources said, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was scheduled to go to London this week, but now the PML-N leader will visit London and USA only after the constitutional amendment issue is resolved.

Sources said that the constitutional amendment is likely to be tabled this week or early in the second week of October and the decision of the Supreme Court is being awaited in this regard.

It should be noted that the government had decided to introduce constitutional amendments last month, but due to not getting the required majority, it was decided to postpone the approval of the bills for a few days.
