LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Fayyaz has submitted a resolution seeking ban on Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) in Punjab Assembly Secretariat.

MPA Rana Muhammad Fayyaz has demanded immediate ban on PTI in resolution as an anarchist group has been completely destroying social traditions under the guise of politics.

In the resolution, it was said that the anarchist group had hatched a heinous conspiracy against the country and the institutions that guarantee its security.

An unsuccessful attempt was made to create a civil war in the country to fulfill their nefarious political ambitions.

LAHORE: Opposition Leader Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar has filed a reference against the Chief Election Commissioner and other members of the Election Commission of Pakistan in the Supreme Judicial Council.

Ahmed Khan Bhachar has submitted a 430-page reference to the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

In the reference, the stand has been adopted that the Chief Election Commissioner and other members of the Election Commission are biased in the general election. The Chief Election Commissioner and other members showed bias.

It has been pointed out in the reference that the Chief Election Commissioner and the members have not performed the law and constitutional obligations.

PTI submits reserved seats list for Punjab Assembly to ECP

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) has submitted the list of names for reserved seats for women in the Punjab Assembly to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

PTI sources said, names of 33 women have been submitted to the ECP for 24 reserved seats for PTI women in the Punjab Assembly.

According to sources, the names of Yasmeen Rashid, Ayesha Ali Bhutta, Tayyaba Anbreen, Kulsoom Akram, Saira Raza, Farah Agha, Firdous Rehana, Abida Bibi, Sadia Ayub are included in the list of reserved seats.

Similarly, Samia Noreen, Azra Naseem, Asia Amjad, Tanzeela Imran, Qurban Fatima, Komal Nadeem, Bushra Saeed, Ameena Badar, Maimona Kamal, Amira Azhar, Safia Javed, Aqsa Asim were also submitted to the Election Commission.

The names of Ameena Bilal, Naheed Watto, Sara Ali, Tahmina Riaz, Shireen Nawaz, Syeda Fatima Haider, Shehla Ehsan, Shehla Mumtaz, Abida Kausar, Nadia Asghar, Hina Taslim and Nilufar Ahmed were also included in the list submitted by the Election Commission.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has submitted a resolution against digital terrorism in the Punjab Assembly, in which it has been demanded that digital terrorists should be stopped and punished with iron hands.

The PML-N member Raheela Khadim Hussain has presented a resolution against digital terrorism in the Punjab Assembly.

In the text of the resolution, it was said that digital terrorism is about to undermine the political and social foundations of the country. It highlights that these terrorists often attack institutions and harass officers and their families.

In the text, it was said that by doing digital terrorism, they are promoting disgusting acts in foreign countries as well.

It has been said in the resolution that political leaders, workers, institutions are not safe from digital terrorism. A fake clip attributed to Azma Bukhari was spread which has nothing to do with reality.

The resolution demanded that the terrorism of digital terrorists should be stopped with iron hands.

On the other hand, federal government has designated special courts in Islamabad under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), 2016, to try “digital terrorists” and those allegedly involved in spreading “anti-state propaganda” through digital content in the virtual world.

Punjab Defamation Law 2024 challenged in LHC

Lahore: The Punjab Defamation Law 2024 passed by the Punjab Assembly has been challenged in the Lahore High Court(LHC).

A petition against the defamation law was filed in the Lahore High Court by journalist Jaffar Ahmed Yar and citizen Raja Riaz.

The Chief Minister, Governor Punjab and Punjab Government have been made parties in the petition.

It should be noted that the Defamation Bill 2024 passed by the Punjab Assembly has become a formal law after the signing of Acting Governor Malik Ahmed Khan last night.

President Lahore Press Club(LHC) Arshad Ansari condemned the approval of Defamation Bill  by the Acting Governor Punjab and said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) also cheated the journalists.

He said the PPP was with the journalists from the top but was mixed with the government from the inside and the governor. The bill was approved by sending him on leave.

Arshad Ansari said that the Joint Action Committee will decide the future course of action.

Defamation Bill 2024 Bill will apply to print, electronic and social media, defamation case can be filed on false, untrue news spread.

The bill will also apply to fake news spread through YouTube and social media. Action will also be taken on the news spread to harm personal life and public place.

Media stakeholders announce to approach LHC again controversial bill

KARACHI: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of media stakeholders strongly rejected the passage of the controversial Defamation Bill 2024 by the Punjab Assembly and announced the approaching court against this ‘black law’.

A virtual emergent meeting of the Joint Action Committee, which consists of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), and Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND), issued a joint statement on Thursday

The participants of the meeting termed Defamation Bill 2024 a draconian law and said the controversial bill was passed by Punjab Assembly without consultation of media stakeholders. The JAC has decided to approach political parties, human rights organizations, and other stockholders against this controversial bill.

The media stakeholders committee will challenge Defamation Bill 2024 in the Lahore High Court and also consider boycotting coverage of assembly sessions, holding rallies, and sit-ins to press the government to withdraw this controversial bill.

The JAC participants said the media organization is not against the formulation of media-related laws but government should consult with media stockholders.  They lamented that the Punjab government has not considered recommendations forward by JAC and the bill was passed in haste.

The JAC also constituted committees to contact all stakeholders about the passage of the controversial Defamation Bill 2024.

LAHORE: The session of Punjab Assembly will be convened on February 23 (tomorrow) where newly elected members will take oath.

Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman has also issued a notification to convene a meeting of the Punjab Assembly.

The Punjab Assembly session will be held tomorrow at 10 am, the newly elected members will take oath in the Punjab Assembly session. The Speaker Punjab Assembly Sardar Sabatin Khan will administer the oath to the newly elected members.

It should be remembered that Punjab Assembly is the first provincial assembly which has been convened after the general elections held on February 8 in the country.

In the Punjab Assembly, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz( PML-N) is the party with the highest number of seats with 137 members, while independent candidates are at the second position. Many independent candidates have also announced to join the PML-N.
