LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder has approached the Lahore High Court(LHC) for bail in May 9 cases.

Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has approached the High Court for release in eight cases of May 9.

Imran Khan has filed a bail petition in other cases including the Jinnah House attack, in which it has been stated that on May 9, he was in the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Islamabad.  Imran Khan termed the cases against him as an act of ‘political revenge’.

PTI founder told the court that he has been subjected to ‘political victimization’ and facing several ‘fabricated’ cases for two years, requesting the court to approve his post-arrest bail.

The PTI founder approached the LHC after his bail plea was rejected by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in eight May 9 cases including the Jinnah House attack.

ISLAMABAD: A special court in Islamabad indicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case–II.

The Special Court Central-I Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand, who presided over the hearing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, framed the charges on Khan and Bushra.

Toshakhana case-II was initially investigated by National Accountability Bureau(NAB) and in the light of NAB amendments, the case was transferred to Federal Investigation Agency. In September 2024, FIA submitted the challan to the court after investigation.

A Toshakhana case was filed against PTI founder and Bushra Bibi over the Bulgari jewelery set given by the Saudi Crown Prince.

The reference said that Bushra Bibi was given a Bulgari jewelery set during her visit to Saudi Arabia from May 7 to 10, 2021. The jewelery set includes a ring, bracelet, necklace and a pair of earrings.

The reference stated that as per the evidence founder PTI and his wife illegally kept the Bulgari jewelery set, Deputy MS informed Toshakhana on May 18 2021 about estimating the value.

NAB to arrest Bushra Bibi in £190m case

ISLAMABAD:  The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to arrest Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder in the £190 million reference.

The NAB Rawalpindi team has been sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sources said that Bushra Bibi will be arrested after an arrest warrant is issued in the £190 million reference.

Earlier, On November 22, Judge Nasir Javed Rana of the Accountability Court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Bushra Bibi for continuously failing to appear for 8 hearings.

According to sources, the NAB team was trying to arrest Bushra Bibi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa even 3 days ago. The NAB team has been formed again to arrest her.

Sources say that NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also been instructed to fully cooperate with the team while help of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police will also be taken to arrest Bushra Bibi.

NAB hands over confiscated possession of properties to FBR  

FBR introduces new rules about bringing goods from abroad

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau(NAB) Karachi has made a significant move in the fight against corruption by handing over confiscated properties worth Rs. 128 million to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

These properties were confiscated from a former Senior Auditor at Sales Tax Karachi, who found guilty of accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income.

NAB Karachi had conducted inquiry and investigation and subsequently, filed a Reference against the accuses in the Accountability Court No.1, at Karachi, who convicted and sentenced the accused persons to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment and also imposed find of Rs. 14,241,022/- along with confiscation of properties. The convicted accused persons filed an appeal before the Sindh High Court, Karachi, which was dismissed.

Consequently, NAB (Karachi) took over the physical possession of 3x properties of convicted person and the same were handed over by DG NAB (Karachi) to the Chief Commissioner, Inland Revenue, Large Taxpayers Office, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Karachi, in a handing over ceremony at Regional Headquarters of NAB at Karachi.

DG NAB (Karachi), reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment for recovering looted money and returning it to the affected departments and individuals. He further said that under the leadership of Chairman, NAB Karachi remains committed to combating corruption and corrupt practices with dedication and professionalism.

Court acquits Mandviwala in Kidnay Hills reference

ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court (AC) acquitted former Senate deputy chairman Saleem Mandviwala and others in the Kidney Hills reference.

Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana approved the application of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and returned the reference.

The NAB, in its plea, stated that Mandviwala had no connection with the case. Moreover there was no loss to the government treasury, rather it was a private party which suffered the losses.

The Bureau pleaded the court to acquit the accused.

The NAB said that the reference was filed on January 19, 2021 against seven accused.

The matter was presented before its executive board in September (2024), which reached a conclusion that the reference could not be made as per the facts, it added.

The court, subsequently, approved the request of NAB and acquitted the seven persons.

Court reserves verdict on Toshakhana case against Zardari, Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court in Islamabad has reserved its verdict of in Toshakhana reference against President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani back to the National Accountablity Bureau (NAB).

Accountability Court Judge Abida Sajjad heard the petition to send the Toshakhana reference back to NAB against Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and others.

President Asif Ali Zardari’s lawyer Farooq H. Naek and Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Kazi Misbah and Rana Irfan appeared in the accountability court.

Lawyer Farooq H. Naik said that there are 5 accused in the reference, after NAB amendments, this case is not the jurisdiction of this court and this case should be sent back to Chairman NAB.

The judge of the accountability court said that the parties agree on the point that the reference is not the jurisdiction of this court. On which lawyer Farooq H. Naik said that Asif Ali Zardari had previously also took immunity when he became the president, but when he stepped down from the presidency, he again appeared before the NAB.

The accountability court should send the reference back, to whom the NAB authority sends the case, now the question will be whether the case will be made against Asif Zardari or not.

Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Qazi Misbah said that earlier when the court decided, the case was sent back to NAB, in the light of former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial’s decision, the case sent back to the accountability court.

The lawyers of Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and Yousaf Raza Gilani requested to send the Toshakhana reference to NAB, while the NAB prosecutor said that Asif Ali Zardari had given a check which bounced.

The NAB prosecutor said that Nawaz Sharif’s case will be separated and Asif Ali Zardari’s case will be separated.

After hearing the arguments of the parties, the Accountability Court reserved its decision on the applications related to sending the Toshakhana reference back to NAB against Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and others.

NAB withdraws new Toshakhana case against PTI founder

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has withdrawn the new Toshakhana case filed against Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) founder Imran Khan from the accountability court.

A hearing was held on the application for bail in the new Toshakhana reference against founder PTI.  Lawyer Salman Safdar said that a new Toshakhana case will not be created after NAB amendments and restoration.

He said that there is no crime under the current law.

The NAB prosecutor argued that after the restoration of the NAB amendments, the new Toshakhana reference has gone out of the jurisdiction of the NAB.

NAB withdrew the new Toshakhana case from the accountability court.

Accountability Court judge Muhammad M. Ali Warraich took a 3-hour break in the hearing and later passed the decision to transfer new Toshakhana to Reference Special Judge Central.

The Accountability Court ordered that bail applications in the new Toshakhana case will be heard by the concerned court. The new Toshakhana case will be heard by the relevant court on September 10.

It should be noted that in recent days, Imran Khan sought exemption from the Accountability Court in the  £190 million reference by resorting to the Supreme Court’s decision on NAB amendments and filed his acquittal petition.

NAB amendments were declared unconstitutional by the founder PTI and approached the Supreme Court and after losing the case from the Supreme Court, now based on this decision, he sought acquittal from the accountability court.

NAB amendments restored by Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan reinstated National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments, approving the intra-court appeals by the government and other parties.

Supreme Court of Pakistan passed the verdict on the NAB amendments case on Friday.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa read the decision to revoke the nullification of NAB amendments and announced the verdict.

A 5-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, was involved in the hearing. Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah, and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi were part of the bench.

According to the court’s ruling, the amendments could not be proved unconstitutional.

NAB files new Toshakhana reference against PTI founder, Bushra Bibi

ISLAMABAD:  The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a new Toshakhana reference against the founder Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and  his wife Bushra Bibi.

On behalf of NAB, reference investigation officer Mohsin Haroon and case Afsar Waqar ul Hassan filed the reference in the accountability court, which consists of two volumes.

According to the sources, the new Toshakhana reference filed by NAB will be reviewed by the Registrar Accountability Court, after removing the objections, the reference will be sent to the Administrative Judge of the Accountability Court, after which the Administrative Judge will decide whether to transfer the reference to himself or to another accountability court.

Administrative Judge Nasir Javed Rana is already hearing the £190 million reference.

NAB interrogated Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in Adiala Jail and both were arrested on July 13 while both remained in NAB custody for 37 days for investigation.

NAB launches inquiry into mega sugar scam in Sadiqbad

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau(NAB) Lahore took notice of mega sugar scam in Sadiqabad and ordered an investigation into the scandal.

Spokesman NAB Lahore said that a report was received from a big sugar dealer in Sadiqabad about the absconding of traders along with billions of rupees, on which DG NAB Lahore Amjad Majeed Aulakh formed a team for immediate investigation.

According to NAB spokesperson, a direct inquiry was ordered against the main accused of the sugar scam, Sheikh Rashid and co-accused Kashif Ali and Faisal Ali.

The spokesman said that the NAB investigation team conducted a raid in Sadiqabad, where it was revealed that the accused were storing sugar in large warehouses at several places. The warehouses were used for sugar stock.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former federal minister Khawaja Saad Rafique opposed the National Accountability Bureau’s amendment ordinance.

In his statement, Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that the law of changing physical remand from 14 days to 40 days is sad. He said that this black law cannot be supported and added that the ordinance should be withdrawn.

Khawaja Saad Rafiq also said that many innocent people have become victims of this law while  suspicious legislation is always inappropriate.

Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that the NAB law was made by a dictator which was used for shameful political purposes.

It should be noted that Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani issued the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Amendment Ordinance.

Under the NAB Amendment Ordinance, the remand of NAB has been increased from 14 days to 40 days, while according to the NAB Amendment Ordinance, the punishment of the NAB officer for making a malicious case has been reduced from 5 years to 2 years.

A 5-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazu Faez Usa  is hearing the case while Justice Aminuddin, Justice Jamal  Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi are part of the bench.

PTI founder Imran Khan was appeared in the Supreme Court via video link from Adiala Jail, Imran Khan was wearing a light blue shirt.

At the beginning of the hearing, the Chief Justice asked the Attorney General, has the video link been established. On this, the Attorney General said that the Video link has been established.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court had declared null and void the NAB amendments, against which the federal and provincial governments had filed intra-court appeals, while the founder PTI had requested to appear on its own in the NAB amendments case. The SC allowed the appearance of founder PTI through video link.

During the hearing, the lawyer was giving arguments to the federal government, during which the Chief Justice directed Makhdoom Ali Khan to give his arguments in a loud voice so that the founder PTI on the video link could also hear.

Makhdoom Ali, the lawyer of the federal government, said that the issue of NAB amendments is pending in the Islamabad High Court.

Justice Athar Minallah asked whether the pending application in the High Court was approved for hearing. On which lawyer Makhdoom Ali said yes, it was declared admissible.

Justice Qazi Faez Isa said that instead of suspending the law, he wanted to hear and decide on a daily basis, suspending the law is also tampering with the system.

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has acquitted former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and others in the LNG terminal case.

Islamabad Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed heard the NAB reference against Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and others, in which Deputy Prosecutor NAB Azhar Maqbool appeared in the court while Shahid Khaqan’s lawyers were also present in the court.

Meanwhile, an application was filed by NAB in which NAB requested to withdraw the LNG reference against Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and others.

The court acquitted all the accused, including Shahid Khaqan, from the reference while giving a verdict on NAB’s request to withdraw the reference.

Former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail and Abdullah Khaqan were also acquitted from the reference after the court’s verdict.

It should be noted that the LNG NAB reference was filed against Shahid Khaqan Abbasi a few years ago, in which the former prime minister was charged on November 16, 2020.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet has approved the removal of eight people from  Exit Control Lists(ECL) involved in the £190 million corruption.

Sources said the Federal Cabinet approved the removal of the names from the Exit Control List (ECL) on the recommendation of the National Accountability Bureau(NAB). After federal cabinet approval, the names of eight persons related to the 190 million pound case were removed from the ECL.

The names of the persons removed from ECL include former Secretary to Prime Minister Azam Khan, Raja Manzoor Kiyani, and Arif Rahim.

Similarly, the names of Naveed Akbar, Sikandar Hayat, Nisar Muhammad, Ghulam Haider, and Arif Nazir Butt have also been removed from the ECL.

The names of these persons were included in the ECL for being linked to the £190 million case.

RAWALPINDI: Former Federal Minister and leader of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) Fawad Chaudhry was released from Adiala Jail after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved his bail.

Fawad Chaudhry was granted bail 2 days ago, after which he has now been released.

Fawad Chaudhry reached home after his release from Adiala Jail, upon reaching home his daughters were happy and welcomed their father.

It should be noted that Fawad Chaudhry was imprisoned in Adiala Jail on judicial remand in National Accountability Bureau(NAB) case related to land in Jhelum.

Fawad Chaudhry had approached the Islamabad High Court for bail after his arrest, after which the Islamabad High Court ordered the release of the former federal minister on bail.

The former minister had been behind bars since November 4, 2023, in multiple cases, after he was arrested from his Islamabad residence in connection with a complaint filed against him at Aabpara Police Station.

ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court has sent the reference of corruption of 462 billion rupees against Dr. Asim Hussain and others to the Anti-Corruption Establishment.

The Karachi Accountability Court, while giving its verdict on the request to send the reference back to the Chairman National Accountability Bureau(NAB), said that the Chairman NAB should send the reference to the Anti-Corruption Establishment through DG NAB Karachi.

The court sent the reference of 462 billion rupees in corruption against five accused back to Chairman NAB.

The court said that unless the accused approaches the concerned court for bail, they will remain on bail, if the accused does not appear despite the notice of the concerned court or investigating officer, the bail amount should be confiscated.

The court also ended the process of declaring Masood Jafri, the fugitive accused of the reference, as a proclaimed offender.

The court said that the two persons who misused the trust land against Dr. Asim were not made witnesses, and misuse of power and financial benefits against Dr. Asim and others are not mentioned in the reference.

The lawyer of the accused said in the court that after the amendment of the NAB Ordinance, the court does not have the authority to hear the reference.

ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court Islamabad has extended the judicial remand of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry till March 26.

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, who was arrested in the case related to corruption in construction projects in Jhelum, was presented by the National Accountability Bureau(NAB) in the accountability court after the completion of judicial remand.

Fawad Chaudhry was presented in the court of Accountability Court judge Nasir Javed Rana, where the NAB prosecutor took the position that inquiries against Fawad Chaudhry are still ongoing.

Fawad Chaudhry said in the court that he should be allowed to talk to family members and daughters on the phone, on which the accountability court accepted Fawad Chaudhry’s request.

The accountability court extended Fawad Chaudhry’s judicial remand till March 26.

NAB decides to establish ‘Accountability Facilitation Cell’

ISALAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has said that a new method has been introduced for the protection of government employees and businessmen.

Chairman NAB said in the statement that he will give priority to dealing with complaints against parliamentarians and government officials, while handling complaints against businessmen will also be given priority. He said the action on complaints will be completed within 7 days.

He said that NAB will establish an Accountability Facilitation Cell in the concerned Civil Secretariat, Business Facilitation Cells will be established in regional offices, representatives of the business community will be included in the cell.

He said that no action will be taken on the basis of anonymous and fictitious complaints, all complainants will be dealt with respect, and feedback forms will be given to those who come to the offices for the behavior of the officers.
