RAWALPINDI:The judgment against Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder and his wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million case has been delayed for the third time

Accountability Court judge Nasir Javed Rana was to pronounce the £190 million case verdict against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in Adiala Jail.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana expressed anger over the no-show of the accused, saying that he had been present at the court since 8:30am, leading to the postponement of the verdict.

It should be noted that the accountability court had reserved its decision on the £190 million case on December 18, 2024.

The accountability court had first fixed December 23rd and then January 6th as the date for delivering the verdict, then the third date for delivering the verdict was January 13th.

The trial of the £190 million case was completed in a year and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recorded the statements of 35 witnesses during the trial, the lawyers of the founder PTI cross-examined the witnesses.

Important witnesses in the £190 million case, former principal secretary Azam Khan, former chief minister KP Pervez Khattak, former federal minister Zubaida Jalal also recorded their statements.

Court acquits Sindh CM in Nooriabad Power project reference

ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court acquitted Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in the Nooriabad Power Project reference.

Islamabad Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed heard the Nooriabad Power Project reference against the Sindh Chief Minister and others, where the lawyer of the accused, Barrister Qasim Nawaz Abbasi, appeared in the court.

Accountability Court accepted the request of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB)to withdraw the reference and acquitted the Sindh Chief Minister in the reference.

The accountability court also acquitted all the other accused named in the Nooriabad Power Project reference.

Court acquits Mandviwala in Kidnay Hills reference

ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court (AC) acquitted former Senate deputy chairman Saleem Mandviwala and others in the Kidney Hills reference.

Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana approved the application of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and returned the reference.

The NAB, in its plea, stated that Mandviwala had no connection with the case. Moreover there was no loss to the government treasury, rather it was a private party which suffered the losses.

The Bureau pleaded the court to acquit the accused.

The NAB said that the reference was filed on January 19, 2021 against seven accused.

The matter was presented before its executive board in September (2024), which reached a conclusion that the reference could not be made as per the facts, it added.

The court, subsequently, approved the request of NAB and acquitted the seven persons.

PTI founder, Bushra Bibi’s judicial remand extended till Sept 16

RAWALPINDI: The accountability court has extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the new Toshahkhana reference till September 16.

Accountability Court judge Nasir Javed Rana held a hearing on the new Toshakhana reference against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, in which their lawyers and NAB prosecutor appeared in the court.

During the hearing, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s lawyer Salman Safdar argued that the new reference of Toshakhana is the same as the first reference, two references cannot be made on the same charge.

On this, the NAB prosecutor said that the documents can prove whether the new reference is similar to the previous one or not.

Meanwhile, the NAB prosecutor requested to get the judicial record of Toshakhan’s old reference, which was rejected by the court.

Later, the accountability court in a new reference extended the judicial remand of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi till September 16 and postponed further hearing of the case till September 6.

Asif Zardari gets presidential immunity in Toshakhana reference

ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court of Islamabad has stopped proceedings against President Asif Ali Zardari in Toshkhana vehicle and Parke Lane references by granting him presidential immunity.

Islamabad Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed heard case seeking Presidential Immunity to Asif Zardari on the reference related to Toshakhana vehicles and Park lane references.

After receiving the presidential immunity, the proceedings on the references against the President of the country have been stopped.

The court order has said that as long as Asif Zardari is the president, the proceedings against him cannot proceed. An application has been filed on behalf of Asif Zardari under Article 248 (2) and the position has been adopted in the applications that Asif Zardari is the president and the proceedings of criminal cases against him cannot continue.

The court said that as the prosecution did not object to the petitions and was not opposed. A case could be made against the President under Article 248(2) and no proceedings could be continued.
