ECP summons emergency session to review Sindh LG polls

  • ECP calls session for the LG polls in Sindh
  • The meeting was called after Sindh govt announcement
  • ECP will also review Punjab Assembly situation

KARACHI: In wake of the announcement by Sindh government regarding the postponement of LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has called a session to discuss the situation.

The session is to be attended by the chief election commissioner, special secretary, and other members.

The sources in the know have said that ECP is to announce something ‘big’ regarding the LG polls in Sindh.

Not only this, the issue of dissolution of the Punjab Assembly is also expected to be reviewed in the meeting.

ECP sources have said that the decisions will be taken in the light of legal options and court verdicts.

Pertinently, Sindh government in a late-night announcement postponed the LG polls in Karachi, Hyderabad and Dadu and has taken the notification regarding the delimitations back.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said, “The ally – MQM – is important for us and we take them seriously, they have reservations over the delimitation so there will be no elections on January 15 in Karachi, Hyderabad and Dadu.”

However, LG elections in the remaining districts of Sindh will be held as per schedule.
