ECP challenges IHC order to hold Islamabad LG polls today

  • ECP filed appeal against IHC order for LG polls
  • IHC to take the petition for hearing shortly
  • IHC ordered to have LG polls in Islamabad on Dec 31

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) filed an intra-court appeal against the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision to conduct the LG polls in the capital (Dec 31) today.

ECP has nominated Jamat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as respondents in the appeal. The IHC will take the petition for hearing shortly.

Pertinently, yesterday, the IHC ordered to have LG polls in Islamabad as per schedule on December 31.

On the other hand, PTI is to file a contempt of court plea against ECP in case of violating the order of the Islamabad High Court regarding holding local bodies elections in the federal capital.

PTI Islamabad President Ali Nawaz Awan confirmed the news to Bol News saying that the ECP should ensure holding local bodies elections, come what may. He said they would move the IHC if the election process did not kick off at 8:00 am on Saturday (today).

“We will file contempt of court petition against the ECP in the IHC,” he maintained.
