ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to deploy Pakistan army and Rangers for security during the ICC Champions Trophy.

According to sources, foolproof security arrangements are being finalized for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and in this regard the government has decided to deploy the army and Rangers for security.

Sources said deployment of Pakistan army and Rangers have been approved by federal cabinet.

Sources Cabinet Division said that the appointment of Pak army in the Champions Trophy will be made under Article 245 of the Constitution, Rangers will be deployed for security under the Anti -Terrorism Act 1997.

It was pertinent to mention here that ICC Champions Trophy will start on February 19 and continue till March 9.

KARACHI: Counter Terrorism Department and Sindh Rangers arrested three most wanted terrorists associated with Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Swat group from Quaidabad area of Karachi and recovered explosive material from their possession.

The accused include Javed Swati alias Bhai Jaan, Shahid Hussain alias Umar and Akbar Zeib Khan, who are involved in several cases of terrorism, murder, attempted murder, and extortion.

According to the Rangers spokesperson, the suspects were planning terrorist attacks against the security forces, Javed Swati alias Bhai Haan had joined the TTP Swat group in 2008, and Commander Umar Rehman alias Ustad Fateh and Bin Yameen were members of the group.

Two brothers of the accused, Shahid and Zahid, were killed in the operation of the security forces in Swat, he along with his family moved to Karachi after the Swat operation and hid in different places and was arrested from Karachi in 2012 and spent 14 months in Swat. He remained in jail, after his release he moved to Gulshan Buneer Landhi.

The close associates of the accused, Commander Umar-ur-Rehman alias Ustad Fateh, Abd-ur-Rehman alias Shahzad, Habibullah alias Muawiya had moved to Afghanistan and he was in constant contact with them through WhatsApp, and has also been doing facilitation work for them.

Accused Shahid Hussain alias Umar and Akbar Zeib Khan joined Tehreek Ghulba tu Islam in 2010, Zakria alias Inamullah joined Fitna-ul-Khawarij Swat group in 2014. These accused were involved in several acts of extortion, murder and attempted murder in Karachi.

4 Rangers personnel martyred as miscreants rammed vehicle into them

ISLAMABAD: At least four Rangers personnel martyred as protesters rammed a vehicle into them at Srinagar Highway Islamabad here on Tuesday.

According to security sources, five Rangers personnel and police personnel were also seriously injuries in the incident at Srinagar Highway in the wee hours.

Among the martyred Rangers personnel are 47-years Naik Muhammad Ramzan Shaheed resident of Kirk district, 29-years old Sepoy Gulfam Khan Shaheed resident of Rawalpindi district and 33-years old Sepoy Shahnawaz Shaheed resident of Sabi district.

The seriously injured Rangers personnel include Naik Arif, Lance Naik Asif and Sepoy Ashraf Ali.

Security sources said four Rangers personnel and two of police have been martyred so far in attacks on law enforcement agencies by Pakistan Tehreak e Insaf(PTI) miscreants.

About 119 police officials have also been injured and many of them sustained severe injuries.

The security sources said that under Article 245 of the constitution, Army has been summoned to deal with the miscreants and troublemakers with iron hands. Shoot at sight orders have also been issued, they said.

The security sources further said that all necessary measures were being taken to deal with anarchists and miscreants in response to any act of terrorism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attack on the rangers and police personnel by the protestors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of the Rangers personnel who were crushed by the vehicle and prayed for patience for the high ranks and families of the martyred personnel.

The Prime Minister pointed out the people involved in the incident and directed them to be severely punished, and to provide the best medical facilities to the injured rangers and police personnel.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has sent a summary to the federal cabinet regarding the provision of the Pakistan Army on the security issues of the general elections.

KARACHI: Four most-wanted suspects of the inter-provincial dacoit gang have been arrested in Karachi city on Wednesday.

The raid was jointly conducted by Rangers, police and Anti-Terrorist Wing.

SSP South Shiraz Nazeer and Wing Commander Ali Musa said in a press conference that in a joint operation of the Rangers and the police, four most wanted suspects who belong to the inter-provincial dacoit gang have been arrested.

Shiraz Nazeer said that the accused are involved in robbery incidents in different areas of Karachi. The law enforcement agencies (LEA)  A sum of more than 19.2 million was recovered from the possession of the accused.

SSP South said that three pistols, two motorcycles and 12 mobile phones were also recovered from the accused. The arrested accused include Bakht Rooz alias Mulla, Aleem Khan alias Sir, Shams ur Rehman and Zahid Khan.

He said that the accused have committed several crimes in the areas of Gulshan e Iqbal, Orangi, Saddar and Lyari. The arrested accused were running an organized robbery gang and they are also involved in dozens of house robberies and hundreds of robbery incidents.

Shiraz Nazeer said that before the incident, the accused used to do complete surveillance. On August 5, 2023, they committed a major robbery in Saddar and accused escaped after snatching a bag full of 22.2 million.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has excused to deploy troops outside sensitive and most sensitive polling stations during the second phase of local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.

The Election Commission has received the reply to the letter written to the Ministry of Interior on the issue of the deployment of the army and rangers outside the polling stations during the second phase of municipal elections in Sindh.

Responding to the ECP’s letter, the Ministry of Interior has excused the deployment of the army and rangers at polling stations.

In response to the letter, the Ministry of Interior has stated that deployment of such a large number of army and rangers personnel is not possible.

The Ministry of Interior said that the issue of deployment of army and rangers was taken with the GHQ, however, deployment is the responsibility of the provincial government at the first level and it has already been informed that deployment is not possible at highly sensitive polling stations.

According to the Ministry of Interior, it is not possible to provide security cover to the election staff and materials, but the ECP should identify 500 highly sensitive polling stations because the deployment of rangers can be done outside five hundred highly sensitive polling stations, in which the rangers personnel will assist the police personnel.

It may be noted that the Election Commission had written a letter to the Ministry of Interior regarding the deployment of the Pakistan army and rangers personnel during the LG elections.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Interior has directed the deployment of Frontier Constabulary at sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations.

In this regard, the Ministry of Interior said that the Election Commission had requested for deployment of Frontier Constabulary at the most sensitive and sensitive polling stations.
