In an exclusive interview, Hrithik revealed the intricacies of his approach to portraying the mentally impaired character, Rohit Mehra, which earned him critical acclaim and commercial success.

Celebrating two decades after the film’s release, director Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik sat down for a candid conversation. When asked about his approach to the character, Hrithik shared how he drew inspiration from his own life. “Academically speaking, of course, there was a DNA match, and I took a lot of it from my life,” he said. “I had experienced bullying during my school days and had a stutter. Life had already given me the vulnerability that the character needed. This is a great lesson in life – whatever we have, either good or bad, can be used if we keep our eyes open and wait for the right time.”

Koi Mil Gaya not only became a turning point in Hrithik’s career but also helped him discover his true calling as an actor. “This was a learning experience because when I came to the set, I found centering and honesty. The mask of a star and an actor would vanish. It’s just me being me, and I learned a lot from that. I found my calling through this film. I needed to be expressed, and the script was everything,” he revealed.

Reflecting on his first encounter with the script, Hrithik admitted to being deeply moved by its emotional depth. “It took me some 6 to 7 hours to read the script because, after every 2-3 pages, I used to sit and cry. I felt a lot for the film,” he recalled. Excited by the brilliance of the script, he immediately called his father and said, “Papa, the script is mind-blowing, it’s fantastic, I cried throughout the script.”

On the first day of the shoot, Hrithik felt a wave of nervousness. Wanting his father’s approval, he meticulously planned his appearance. “I thought Papa should see what I am doing with everything like my hair and my clothes. But he didn’t see anything until I landed on the first day of the shoot. It was a strange kind of faith that he had in me, and I thought that I should just follow my instinct, and that’s what I did,” he confessed with a smile. Sharing his unique process for getting into character, he said, “My process for every character is to start with the hair. Once I get that right, then I start doing other things. So once I got the hair right for Rohit, then I was set.”

As Koi Mil Gaya rejoices its 20th anniversary, the film continues to resonate with audiences, and Hrithik Roshan’s stellar performance as Rohit Mehra remains etched in the hearts of fans.

It will be over, his life will be over, that’ll be the last nail in the coffin of his professional life.”

He wasn’t deterred by the chatter because he saw Hrithik’s outstanding performance during shooting, which assured him of the film’s bright future. “I did not get scared because when I used to watch Hrithik during shooting, I felt that the film would surely work because of the way he was portraying that role. If I would have felt doubtful then, I would have shelved the film. But the very first day, the very first shot when Hrithik came, I got the inner feeling that we are making a very successful film,” Rakesh ji asserted.

In a shocking turn of events, Bomman and Bellie, the renowned tribal couple featured in the Oscar-winning documentary “The Elephant Whisperers,” have sent a legal notice to director Kartiki Gonsalves, alleging financial exploitation and neglect. The couple is seeking a goodwill gesture of Rs 2 crore, claiming they were promised a home, a vehicle, and financial compensation based on the project’s income.

According to the legal notice acquired by PTI, Bomman, and Bellie were introduced as the true heroes of the documentary to esteemed personalities, including celebrities, sportspersons, and political leaders, which boosted their recognition for their work. However, despite their significant contributions to the film’s success, the couple alleges that they never received any financial compensation. Instead, all the monetary benefits were claimed by the filmmaker from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Prime Minister of India.

The couple has refrained from commenting on the case directly, urging reporters to seek further details from their legal representatives. They sought assistance from Chennai-based lawyer and social activist, Pravin Raj, who connected them with a law firm in Chennai to pursue their case.

Reportedly, Bomman and Bellie are deeply disappointed with Kartiki Gonsalves, who had initially promised them financial aid and support for Bellie’s granddaughter’s education during the filmmaking process. However, as per their allegations, Gonsalves is now refusing to share any portion of the documentary’s considerable profits. The couple had faithfully followed Gonsalves’ instructions, hoping for mutual prosperity as the film achieved success, but they claim that Gonsalves has been avoiding their attempts to reach out.

In response to the legal notice, Kartiki Gonsalves and Sikhya Entertainment, the production company behind “The Elephant Whisperers,” released a statement defending their actions. They stated that the primary objective of the documentary was to spotlight elephant conservation and the remarkable efforts of the Forest Department and its mahouts, Bomman and Bellie. The filmmakers asserted that the documentary had significantly raised awareness for the cause and garnered donations from Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister for the welfare of 91 mahouts and Cavadis, who care for the state’s elephants.

On Saturday night, August 5, the leading producer, Amritpal Singh Bindra, hosted a grand bash that saw the who’s who of the contemporary Hindi film industry in attendance. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, accompanied by his daughter Suhana Khan, the much-loved couple Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, and rumored lovebirds Ananya Panday, among many others, graced the event.

True to his style, Shah Rukh Khan arrived at the party in a concealed car, not posing for the paparazzi photographers. His longtime manager, Pooja Dadlani, accompanied him for the occasion. Writers Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav, have nearly completed the script, and pre-production will kick off in October. The shoot is planned to take place extensively in Uttar Pradesh, with a tragic love story as the movie’s theme. Dhanush will play the role of an angry young man named Shekhar, while the female lead is yet to be finalized.

The film is scheduled for a straight three-month shooting schedule, aiming for a mid-2024 release. On August 2, the film industry was shaken by the sudden demise of renowned art director and producer, Nitin Desai. The talented artist, known for his exceptional work in films like Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, tragically died by suicide at the age of 57 at his ND Studios in Karjat. Bollywood actors and filmmakers, including Aamir Khan, gathered at ND Studios on August 4 to pay their last respects to the late artist.

Aamir Khan, who had collaborated with Nitin Desai on several films, expressed his shock and grief at the funeral. Speaking to the media, he said, “This is very shocking news. I am unable to understand how did this happen. I can’t believe it. I wish he did not do this and reached out for help instead. But what can we say in such a tragic situation, it is very difficult to understand what has happened. It is very sad…We have lost someone who was very talented.”

Among the attendees at the funeral were Ashutosh Gowariker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mukesh Rishi, Manoj Joshi, Madhur Bhandarkar, and Sonali Kulkarni. Despite Nitin Desai having worked with numerous top Bollywood celebrities, the turnout was relatively low. Aamir Khan addressed this matter, stating that perhaps some people couldn’t come for various reasons. He emphasized that Nitin Desai held a special place in everyone’s heart, and he offered his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.
