This boy-meets-girl tale of flirting, falling in love, and then breaking up just as quickly is as cynical as they get. Family become involved, and eventually there comes a climax that nobody can predict! The movie Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, directed by Luv Ranjan, stars Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor and plays with extremes. The humorous portions are very humorous, while the monotonous portions are intolerably tedious.
Many close-up shots of the characters crying, smiling, kissing, or blatantly ogling at each other are used by Ranjan to highlight how strong and attractive the characters appear on screen. You could notice echoes of Ranbir Kapoor’s prior movies in some places, but then Ranjan adds his trademark romcom flavor, borrowing elements from both Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Oh, and there are cameos that give the film a crossover vibe. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar never quite gels as a whole, flawless script that you would applaud wholeheartedly, nonetheless.
At the bachelor celebration of their respective best friends Dabbas (Anubhav Singh Bassi) and Kinchi, Micky (Ranbir) and Tinny (Shraddha) cross paths (Monica Chaudhary). They click right away, and ishq wala love occurs. Tinny is an independent career-oriented woman who requires her own space and life, whereas Micky is a family-oriented man who cannot live without his loved ones. They can’t get over each other without a breakup expert. But is it really that easy when the families are involved and the couple is on the verge of proposing? Will they sacrifice everything for their relationship and their job? Or as Sima Aunty (from Indian Matchmaking says), you can only achieve 60-70 percent compatibility, you never get 100 percent. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar resonates with modern culture.
The first half drags along with its weak writing and lack of a clear head or tail. With some stupid pickup lines that are also openly misogynistic, Micky and Tinny’s romance develops in the most ridiculous way, but when has Ranjan bothered to care about that? He executes it in such a way that you would hear whistling and applause from half of the audience during those phrases. Even the girl has some extremely awkward lines, such as asking the guy to practically ogle her, or so some might think. Most of the time in the first half, it seemed as though Ranjan simply took the format from Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha and substituted Shraddha for Deepika Padukone. On a getaway, a boy and a girl cross paths.
The second half starts off on a positive note, but quickly becomes so formulaic that you can virtually predict it scene by scene. The film actually redeems itself in the last 30 minutes in the funniest, most moving, and genuinely humorous way. In other words, if you only saw that part of the movie, you won’t feel as though you missed the first 144 minutes. It’s so enjoyable that if Ranjan would have stayed to that tone and tempo from the beginning, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar would have been a near-perfect viewing.
Even if the tale Ranjan co-wrote with Rahul Moody is flawed, I find the treatment to be the most notable aspect of this. Once more, Ranjan beautifully depicts the essence of friendship. Having a friend like Ranbir means that Anubhav not only gets a lot of screen time, but a lot of opportunity to perform. The first half’s high point may have been their friendship rather than the romance between the leads. He is incredibly assured for a big-screen debut and he has wonderful comic timing. Kinchi, Shraddha’s best friend, is played by Monica Chaudhary in her debut performance, and she does alright. Regarding the leading couple, Ranbir excels in the rom-com genre and enchants you with his iconic Casanova persona.

Even the familial dynamics that Ranjan examines are endearing, particularly Micky’s contemporary family structure. They’re a riot together, whether it’s the cool dadi, loud but devoted mother (Dimple Kapadia), busy-in-his-own-world but always present father (Boney Kapoor), a caring sister (Hasleen Kaur), or the youngest child (Inayat Verma), who is shown to be a little too mature for her age (she steals the show).
Dimple excels in whatever she attempts. You adore her despite her shouting at the top of her lungs. She has a commanding presence on screen, and the movie fully captures her easygoing demeanor. Without any conversation or even appropriate situations, Boney Kapoor is completely wasted in this. You’ve only ever heard him speak a few times, and never for more than a few lines. Hasleen actually outperforms him in terms of screen time and speech. Inayat steals the show, however it would have been better to not show a child using liquid to make a peg for herself.
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar won’t let you down if you love Bollywood music because it features not one, not two, but five to six whole songs.Three of them come in the first 30-40 minutes and they’re peppy tracks.- Don’t care if they were needed in the storyline or not!
The classic love story Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is presented in a contemporary setting. It’s strange and troublesome, but it’s presented humorously, which can draw you in. The pre-interval may be difficult for you to endure, but after that, things start to calm down. If you enjoy them as much as Kartik Aaryan does, it’s absolutely worth seeing once for some entertaining performances and monologues because it helped him connect with the audience.
