PTI submits independent MNAs list to ECP

ISLAMABAD:  The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has submitted the list of 38 Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

This development came in the light of the Supreme Court verdict on reserved seats to PTI, as a result PTI submitted the list of MNAs to ECP.

The representative of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has submitted the list of independent members of the National Assembly to the Election Commission.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has not yet submitted the affidavits of three independent members, Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan, Mubeen Arif and Riyaz Fatiana are abroad. The party affiliation forms of these three members will be submitted today.

It should be remembered that a few days ago, the Supreme Court declared the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf as a constitutional party and annulled the decisions of the Election Commission and the Peshawar High Court while giving a decision on the request of the Sunni Ittehad Council regarding reserved seats.

ECP fixes PTI’s intra-party election case for hearing

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has fixed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intra-party election case for hearing.

The hearing of the Tehreek-e-Insaf intra-party election case will be held on July 23. A 5-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner will conduct the hearing.

According to sources, the Election Commission has issued notices to the Chief Election Commissioner of Tehreek-e-Insaf and others.

The political finance wing of the Election Commission has raised questions on the intra-party election.

ECP issues warrant of Fawad Chauhdry in contempt case

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) issued bailable warrant of former federal minister  Fawad Chaudhry for non-appearance in contempt case.

A 4-member bench headed by Election Commission member Nisar Durrani heard the case against founder PTI and Fawad Chaudhry regarding contempt of the Chief Election Commissioner and ECP.  Shoaib Shaheen’s assistant counsel appeared before the commission.

During the hearing, Deputy Director Law Election Commission Saima Janjua said that there is no stay ng order in this case for the founder PTI in the High Court. The last time this case was heard in the High Court was in January. The High Court had stayed the final order but action could be taken.

During the hearing, the Member Election Commission asked that where is Fawad Chaudhi, where is his lawyer, should we issue his warrant. On this, the assistant lawyer said that Fawad is busy in the High Court, his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry is also in the court.

Member Election Commission said that Fawad Chaudhry is not in jail and ECP can issue his warrant.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected the reports of absence of Form 45 from some constituencies of Lahore as misleading.

The spokesperson of the ECP rejected the reports of absence of Form 45 of some constituencies in Lahore on the website of the commission and said that these rumors are an attempt to mislead the public.

The spokesperson said that Form 45 had been uploaded on the commission’s website. PP 159 All Form 45 and Form 46 of Lahore were also already available on the Commission’s website.

According to the spokesperson, more misleading information of the same nature is being spread.

ECP finalise arrangement to hold by-election in Bajaur

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized the arrangements to conduct bye-election in PK-22, Bajaur-IV on July 11th under proper security cover to ensure safety of voters.

According to the ECP notification, the election campaign for Bye-Elections in PK-22, Bajaur-IV would end from the midnight falling between the July 9th and 10th, said a press release on Tuesday.

The political parties and the candidates have been requested to follow the provisions of law and exercise self-restraint so that the poll are conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner on July 11.

“Any person who contravenes these provisions of law shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine which may extend to one hundred thousand rupees or with both,” the notification said.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) order to change the Islamabad Election Tribunal and reinstated the tribunal comprising Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri.

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amer Farooq heard the petition against the change of the Election Tribunal. In the hearing, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Member of Assembly Anjum Aqeel, Additional Attorney General and the lawyers of the parties appeared in the court.

The court asked Anjum Aqeel that what he has written in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission is true. Anjum Aqeel Khan could not explain the words ‘nepotism’ used in the petition on judicial inquiry.

Chief Justice Amer Farooq asked you to explain what nepotism is. On this, Anjum Aqeel said that these are legal words, “I apologize unconditionally to the court”.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court asked the Additional Attorney General, how will you defend this ordinance. He replied that  Acting President issued an ordinance overnight.

The court said that you people have set up an ordnance factory.

The court issued a show cause notice to Anjum Aqeel Khan and directed him to ensure attendance at every hearing and adjourned further hearing of the case till July 9.

ECP issues delimitation schedule of UCs in Punjab for LG polls

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released a delimitation schedule of union councils (UCs) in Punjab for holding local government elections.

However, the final publication of the constituencies will be done on September 1.

The arrangements regarding acquisition of maps, notification of demarcation and training of constituency committees will be completed by June 30.

The initial list of constituencies will be prepared from July 1 to 22, while the initial publication of the constituencies will be on July 23.

According to the schedule issued by the Election Commission, the objections to the constituencies will be submitted from July 24 to August 7 and the constituencies authorities will deal with the objections by August 22.

The constituency authorities will inform the constituency committees of their decisions by August 29 and the final publication of the constituencies for local body elections in Punjab will be done on September 1.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) challenged the Lahore High Court’s verdict to form election tribunals in the Supreme Court.

The Election Commission has requested the Supreme Court to suspend the decision of the Lahore High Court.

The electoral body is of the opinion that the formation of election tribunals is the authority of the Election Commission, the High Court cannot use the powers of the ECP.The Supreme Court should declare the decision of the Lahore High Court null and void.

The Election Commission requested the Supreme Court that the appeal be fixed for hearing tomorrow.

It should be noted that on the decision of the Lahore High Court, Chief Justice Shahzad Malik issued orders for the formation of 8 tribunals yesterday.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq expressed his anger over the change of the election tribunal in Islamabad.

The court heard PTI’s petition against the ongoing proceedings related to the Election Amendment Ordinance and the tribunal change in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

During the case hearing, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq expressed his anger on the Election Commission’s lawyer and said that the decision of the ECP to change the election tribunals cannot be sustained.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq inquired that on what ground the Election Commission changed the tribunals, on which the counsel of the ECP said that the tribunals had not followed the procedure on which it was changed.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court said that Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri is the judge of this court, the Election Commission would have challenged the order but how and why was the transfer done?  A case is transferred on the basis of bias but there is a way and first of all the concerned judge is requested not to hear the case.

On this occasion, PTI candidate Ali Bukhari said that today we have gone back to the position of February 8.

ECP approves PML-N lawmakers request to change tribunal

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the reserved verdict and approved the request to change the Election Tribunal of Islamabad.

ECP approved the application of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) Anjum Aqeel, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Khurram Nawaz.

The Election Commission while giving a decision on the application of Anjum Aqeel, Tariq Fazal and Khurram Nawaz directed to transfer the applications related to the three constituencies to other tribunals.

It should be remembered that in the general elections of February 2024, the opposition candidates had leveled allegations of rigging against the candidates of the PML-N, who were successful in the three seats of Islamabad.

The Islamabad High Court had suspended the notification of the success of the three PML-N leaders while the matter was in the Election Tribunal.

Expressing no confidence in the election tribunal, the League leaders had filed a petition to refer the matter to other tribunals.

A few days ago, the ECP had reserved its decision on the requests of Muslim League-N leaders.

ECP to hear PML-N MNAs request to transfer case from tribunal

ISLAMABAD: The petitions of the three Members of the National Assembly from Islamabad to change the election tribunal have been fixed for hearing.

PML-N’s Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Anjum Aqeel and Raja Khurram Nawaz expressed their lack of confidence in the Election Tribunal and submitted an application to the Election Commission of Pakistan for the change of the Tribunal.

It was pleaded in the petition that there is fear that justice will not be served as they are not satisfied with the existing tribunal.

However, the ECP has fixed the applications of Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Anjum Aqeel and Khurram Nawaz to change the tribunal on June 4 for hearing.

The Election Commission will hear the request to transfer the case from the tribunal tomorrow.

PTI challenges ECP’s authority to withdraw election symbol

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan’s authority to withdraw the election symbol in the Lahore High Court.

The PTI has filed a petition in the High Court challenging the ECP’s authority to withdraw election symbols. The federal government, ECP, and others have been made parties.

In the petition filed in the Lahore High Court, it has been argued that under clause 2 of Article 17, no political party can be prevented from contesting the election.

In the petition, it is requested that the action of the electoral body against the intra-party election of PTI should be annulled.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan raised objections to the new intra-party elections of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The ECP has issued a notice to PTI for April 30. The political finance wing of the Election Commission directed the PTI to appear on April 30.

PTI had submitted the details of the intra-party elections to the Election Commission on March 4.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has imposed a ban on the posting and transfer of government officers within Bajaur district to ensure free, fair and transparent upcoming by-elections in PK-22, Bajaur IV, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a notification, the ban will remain in effect until the names of returned candidates are published.

Additionally, the ECP has prohibited government functionaries or elected representatives, including local government officials, from announcing any development schemes for constituencies where bye-elections are underway until July 11, 2024.

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s notice in assets case.

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa filed petition in Peshawar High Court through the lawyer of Syed Sikandar Hayat Shah Advocate.

It has been contended in the petition that all the assets have been disclosed in the nomination papers and the Returning Officer(RO) has scrutinized the papers carefully.

It has been said in the petition that the election has taken place, Ali Amin Gandapur has become the Chief Minister, now the Election Commission of Pakistan has no authority to take action, if anyone is affected, he can approach the Election Tribunal.

According to the petitioner’s lawyer, the Election Commission has summoned the Chief Minister yesterday regarding the assets.

ECP releases new list of party position following by-polls

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the list of party positions in the National Assembly.

According to the Election Commission, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is the largest party in the National Assembly, while the Sunni Ittehad Council(SIC) is in the second place and the Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) is in the third place.

The ECP said that the number of PML-N members has increased to 120 and the number of SIC is 82.

The number of seats in the National Assembly of PPP is 71, while Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has 21, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal(JUI-F) 11,  Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) 5, and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) 4.

The Election Commission said that Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen(MWM), Muslim League Zia, Balochistan Awami Party(BAP) have one seat each, Balochistan National Party(BNP), National Party and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party(PkMAP0 have one seat each.

The number of independent members in the National Assembly is 7.

ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the notification of the successful candidates in the by-elections.

According to the notification, Faisal Amin Khan was declared successful from NA 44 Dera Ismail  Khan and Ali Pervaiz Malik of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) from NA 119 Lahore while Rashid Ahmed Khan of PML-N was declared successful from NA 132 Kasur was declared successful.

Similarly, Adnan Afzal Chatha of PML-N from Wazirabad PP 36, Ahmed Iqbal PML-N from Narowal on PP 54, Saeed Akbar Nawani of PML-N from Bhakkar on PP 93 and Rana Afzal of PML-N from PP 139 Sheikhupura was declared successful.

Similarly, Muhammad Riaz of PML-N from PP 147 Lahore, Muhammad Shoaib Siddiqui of IPP from PP 149 Lahore, Chaudhry Nawaz of PML-N from PP 158 Lahore and Rashid Minhas of PML-N PP 164  Lahore was declared successful.

SC suspends ECP’s re-election order in PP-51

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) order for re-polling in 12 polling stations of PP-51 Chaman on April 21.

The three-member SC bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and comprising Justice Ayesha Malik and Irfan Saadat Khan also ordered the ECP to issue a new schedule for re-polling in the area after 10 days.

The court also served notices to the Attorney General for Pakistan and adjourned the case till April 23.

It may be mentioned that Awami National Party’s candidate Asghar Khan had approached the apex court  against the ECP’s decision for re-polling in 12 polling stations of said constituency.

ECP completes preparations for by-elections in 21 constituencies

KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed all the preparations for the by-elections in 21 constituencies of national and provincial constituencies.

Sources said that the work of printing the ballot papers has been completed by the Election Commission and ECP printed more than 6.2 million ballot papers.

Sources said that the ballot papers were printed in the printing presses of Islamabad and Karachi. Ballot papers of green color for the National Assembly and white color for the Provincial Assembly have been printed.

Sources said that the ballot papers have been delivered to the Returning Officers (ROs) of the respective constituencies, 2.55 million voters will exercise their right to vote for five constituencies of the National Assembly.

According to the sources, more than 3.6 million voters will exercise their right to vote for the provincial assembly.

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazal(JUI-F) has filed a plea in the Supreme Court against its own female National Assembly Member on a reserved seat.

In the petition filed by JUI in the Supreme Court, it was stated that the name of Sadaf Ehsan was not in the list submitted by the party, the party was named Sadaf Yasmin but she did not show interest.

It is stated in the petition that Sadaf Ehsan got the seat held by Sadaf Yasmin through the alleged connivance of some party elements.

In the JUI plea, it is said that when the Election Commission of Pakistan started an inquiry, Sadaf Ehsan approached the High Court.

The Peshawar High Court ordered to issuing of notification to Sadaf Ehsan as a Member of the Assembly, the decision of the Peshawar High Court should be annulled as it is not by the constitution and law.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the notifications of all the successful candidates of the Senate.

The ECP has issued a notification of the success of Rana Mehmoodul Hasan, Ishaq Dar, Bilal Ahmad Khan, Abdul Wasay, Hasna Bano, and Rahat Jamali from Islamabad.

From Punjab, Ahad Cheema, Pervez Rasheed, Hamid Khan, Raja Nasir Abbas, Mohsin Naqvi, Talal Chaudhry, Nasir Mahmood, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Musadik Malik, Anusha Rehman, Bushra Anjum Butt and Khalil Tahir.

From Balochistan, Ahmed Khan, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, and Aimal Wali Khan won. The Notification has been issued.

The electoral body has issued the notification of successful candidates for 12 seats in the Senate of Sindh, in which Syed Masroor Ahsan of Pakistan People’s Party(PPP), Dost Ali Jessar, Ashraf Jatoi, Kazim Ali Shah and Nadeem Bhutto while  Aamir Chishti of Muttahida Qaumi Movement(MQM) Pakistan have been nominated for 7 general seats.

An independent candidate Faisal Vada has been successful.

Meanwhile, Qurat-ul-Ain Marri and Rubina Qaim Khani of PPP have won the women’s seat, Poonjomal Bheel of PPP has won the minority seat and Zameer Ghumaro and Sarmad Ali of PPP have won the technocrat seat.

The highest number of seats, 14, was won by the PPP, while the PML-N followed closely with 13, according to the results. Two seats went to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) each.

The parties with single-seat victory included the MQM-P, the Awami National Party (ANP), and the National Party (NP).

ECP rejects vote recount request in NA-266

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate’s request for a vote recount in NA-266 (Kila Abdullah-Cum Chaman).

Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai emerged victorious from the NA-266 seat by securing 67,028 votes. JUI-F’s Salahuddin who finished runner-up with 58439 votes challenged Achackzai’s victory and requested for a vote recount.

According to the decision of the electoral body, the difference in votes between the successful candidate and the runner-up candidate is 8,589. Requests for re-verification of votes at 36 polling stations were also rejected.

The petitioner failed to provide concrete evidence in this regard. The petitioner can approach the Election Tribunal for evidence.

It should be noted that Jamiat Ulema Islam(JUI) candidate Salahuddin had applied to the Election Commission.

ECP postpones Senate election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: The election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) notified postponement of Senate polls to the extent of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa till the administration of oath to the elected members against the reserved seats.

A notification issued here said that the commission was of the considered view that all the standards of honesty, justness, and fairness of election could not be fulfilled due to non administration of oath to elected members.

It added that non administration of oath was tantamount to disenfranchisement of lawful voters and denial of level playing field to them. Thus the electoral college was incomplete for the purpose of the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The opposition members in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly on Tuesday submitted a request to the provincial election commission for postponement of elections in the province.

MPA Ahmed Karim Kundi submitted the request, signed by 25 members, on behalf of the opposition. He maintained that the KP assembly speaker had not administered oath to the elected members against reserved despite verdict of Peshawar High Court.

It is worth mentioning here that the KP assembly speaker had already filed a review petition on the PHC verdict.

Earlier, the teams of Election Commission reached the House here on Tuesday for the polls well before time but the proceedings couldn’t start as per the scheduled time of nine o’clock.

ECP issues Hafiz Naeem victory notification from PS-129

Jamaat-e-Islami plans nationwide protest on September 29

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the notification of victory of Jamaat-e-Islami(JI) Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman from Sindh Assembly Constituency PS 129.

According to the notification, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman from Sindh Assembly Constituency PS 129 Karachi got the most votes of 26,296 votes among all the candidates.

According to the sources of Election Commission of Sindh, the notification of success was issued after the submission of Form C by Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman.

It should be noted that Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman announced his withdrawal from this seat after the general elections.

On the other hand, Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader Nasir Hussain Shah said that it would be good if Hafiz Naeem comes to Sindh Assembly, he is a good person and he should come.
