Spokesperson of Balochistan govt condemns attack on polio team in Chaman

QUETTA: The spokesperson of Balochistan government Shahid Rind has strictly condemned the gunned attack on polio workers in which at least four Levies officials were injured when a unknown men were attacked on the team in Chaman district.

The attackers were attempted to snatch weapons from Levies personnel escorting a team administering polio vaccination drops to children and vaccines from the team, he added.

Shahid Rind said that the district administration is taking action against the elements involved in the attack and a case would be filed against the accused under anti-terrorism law.

He said the law will take its course against the attackers and they would be brought to justice to give exemplary punishment for attacking the polio team.

The spokesperson said that protest is a constitutional right, but if the path of violence is taken, the state will take action according to the law.

He warned that no person will be allowed to take law into their hands and government will take stern action against such elements.

On the other hand, scheduled anti-polio drive in six districts of Balochistan has been postponed due to the prevailing heatwave in the province.

The drive, set to commence today, has been rescheduled for June 8th in the districts of Nasirabad, Sibi, Jaffar Abad, Ustha Muhammad, Dera Bugti, and Sohbatpur.

According to health officials, the decision to postpone the drive was made following a weather forecast by the Met Office predicting a severe heatwave in the region.

The health department has decided to postpone the drive to ensure the safety of the vaccination teams and the public.

The anti-polio campaign aims to vaccinate thousands of children in the province, and the new dates have been set to ensure its successful implementation.

SC suspends ECP’s re-election order in PP-51

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) order for re-polling in 12 polling stations of PP-51 Chaman on April 21.

The three-member SC bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and comprising Justice Ayesha Malik and Irfan Saadat Khan also ordered the ECP to issue a new schedule for re-polling in the area after 10 days.

The court also served notices to the Attorney General for Pakistan and adjourned the case till April 23.

It may be mentioned that Awami National Party’s candidate Asghar Khan had approached the apex court  against the ECP’s decision for re-polling in 12 polling stations of said constituency.

ECP rejects vote recount request in NA-266

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate’s request for a vote recount in NA-266 (Kila Abdullah-Cum Chaman).

Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai emerged victorious from the NA-266 seat by securing 67,028 votes. JUI-F’s Salahuddin who finished runner-up with 58439 votes challenged Achackzai’s victory and requested for a vote recount.

According to the decision of the electoral body, the difference in votes between the successful candidate and the runner-up candidate is 8,589. Requests for re-verification of votes at 36 polling stations were also rejected.

The petitioner failed to provide concrete evidence in this regard. The petitioner can approach the Election Tribunal for evidence.

It should be noted that Jamiat Ulema Islam(JUI) candidate Salahuddin had applied to the Election Commission.

QUETTA: The central leader Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Hafiz Hamdullah  narrowly a terror attack in Chaman city of Balochistan province  on Wednesday.

The police said firing incident was reported near Mezai Ada  when he was going to Quetta from Chaman.  Police said that Hafiz Hamdullah was safe in the murder attack.

It should be noted that a day before the general elections, two blast took place outside the election offices in two districts of Balochistan, as a result of which a total of 24 people were killed.

In Balochistan, the first blast took place in Khanazai area of ​​Pishin district in which 14 people were killed while the second blast took place outside the JUI-F office in Qila Saifullah in which 12 people were killed.

RAWALPINDI: Security forces foiled a terrorist activity in Chaman area of Balochistan and recovered a huge cache of arms, and ammunition in an intelligence-based operation (IBO).

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an Intelligence Based Operation (IBO) was carried out in area of Boghra Road Chaman area of Balochistan to search a suspected hideout of terrorists, linked with recent firing incidents on law enforcement agencies and civilians in Chaman area and planting of improvised explosive devices in surrounding areas.

As a result of continuous technical surveillance and reconnaissance of the area, a location of the terrorists was identified and security forces along with CTD were inducted.

Resultantly, while terrorists had already escaped, a huge cache of arms and ammunition including rockets, improvised explosive devices and other accessories has been recovered. The recovery has helped avert an obvious terrorist activity at some urban areas like Quetta.
