Hafiz Naeem sees Trader Friend (Tajir Dost) Scheme as enemy to traders

JI defends PTI’s right to protest amidst government crackdown

Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman expressed concern over the disinclination of the politicians to give up their concessions. He proclaimed that the public can no longer carry the burden of lavish cars, free electricity and luxuries of the rulers.

The Chief acknowledged that all people connected to trading community participated in the peaceful strike on Jamaat’s appeal. He also highlighted the expanse of the protest extending from Chitral to Karachi.

Hafiz Naeem said that the government is introducing schemes that are enemy to the traders in the name of Trader Friend (Tajir Dost) Scheme. He further hoped that no trading organization would be tricked by the government, and go against their community or people.

The Emir of Jamaat said the traders are ready to pay taxes; however, market-based taxation is not acceptable. Taxes should be imposed on feudal lords and the government should reduce its expenditure, he said.

He also stressed that the revocation of IPPs agreements would automatically provide relief to the trading community and the public in general. While pointing towards the strike. he said that the struggle would convince the government to change its mind. Future decisions would be announced after consulting with the traders, he further added.
