Balochistan budget to be presented on June 21

QUETTA: The Balochistan Government will present its budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Friday.

According to assembly sources, the session of Balochistan Provincial Assembly has been convened in this regard on June 21 (Friday) at 7 p.m.

Earlier, Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman presented the province’s ‘tax-free’ budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, totaling 5.44 trillion rupees, amidst protests by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

The finance minister introduced a 5446 billion rupee budget, boasting a surplus of 630 billion rupees. He announced that 77 new mega projects would commence under the annual development program.

The Punjab government proposed up to a 25 percent increase in employee salaries and a 15 percent raise in pensions for retired employees. Additionally, the minimum wage for workers is proposed to increase from 32,000 rupees to 37,000 rupees.

Spokesperson of Balochistan govt condemns attack on polio team in Chaman

QUETTA: The spokesperson of Balochistan government Shahid Rind has strictly condemned the gunned attack on polio workers in which at least four Levies officials were injured when a unknown men were attacked on the team in Chaman district.

The attackers were attempted to snatch weapons from Levies personnel escorting a team administering polio vaccination drops to children and vaccines from the team, he added.

Shahid Rind said that the district administration is taking action against the elements involved in the attack and a case would be filed against the accused under anti-terrorism law.

He said the law will take its course against the attackers and they would be brought to justice to give exemplary punishment for attacking the polio team.

The spokesperson said that protest is a constitutional right, but if the path of violence is taken, the state will take action according to the law.

He warned that no person will be allowed to take law into their hands and government will take stern action against such elements.

On the other hand, scheduled anti-polio drive in six districts of Balochistan has been postponed due to the prevailing heatwave in the province.

The drive, set to commence today, has been rescheduled for June 8th in the districts of Nasirabad, Sibi, Jaffar Abad, Ustha Muhammad, Dera Bugti, and Sohbatpur.

According to health officials, the decision to postpone the drive was made following a weather forecast by the Met Office predicting a severe heatwave in the region.

The health department has decided to postpone the drive to ensure the safety of the vaccination teams and the public.

The anti-polio campaign aims to vaccinate thousands of children in the province, and the new dates have been set to ensure its successful implementation.

Addressing a press conference Home Minister Balochistan Zia Ullah Langau along with DIG CTD said that both the arrested terrorists belong to the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA)and the two terrorists involved in the killing of Labourers were arrested from Gwadar.

Zia Langau said that innocent citizens are being targeted by terrorists and thousands of lives have been lost due to terrorism.

He said that the purpose of terrorism is to spoil the law and order situation in the country. He said the provincial government cannot see our people being killed anymore and added that terrorists have nothing to do with our rights.

He said that whoever talks about the rights of Balochistan and the government will go two steps ahead for them.

It should be noted that in the past few days, seven people were shot dead while sleeping in the quarters in the Sarbandan area of ​​Gwadar while one labor was injured.
