New Gwadar Airport being made operational today

QUETTA: New Gwadar International Airport is being made operational from today (Monday), the project was completed under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Spokesperson Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) dismissed rumors related to New Gwadar International Airport operationalization as baseless.

Spokesman PAA said in his statement that the International Airport will be operational today on January 20 as per the schedule.

He said news of cancellation of operationalization of New Gwadar International Airport due to rains is baseless, people should not listen to rumors and for information.

Gwadar International Airport is the largest airport in Pakistan in terms of area, which has been established on 430 acres at Gurandani area, 26 km from Gwadar city.

Governor, Chief Minister Balochistan, Federal Minister Khawaja Asif and important personalities of Pakistan and China will be present while a colorful ceremony is also being organized on this occasion.

On the other hand, there has been a delay in the departure of the first flight from Karachi to New Gwadar Airport, an important project of the CPEC Corridor.

According to the flight schedule, Air Flight PK 503 from Karachi will be the first flight to land at New Gwadar International Airport.

According to aviation sources, the departure of this flight from Karachi has been delayed by 45 minutes, the flight will depart at 10 am instead of 9:14 am. The first flight from Karachi will be given a water salute upon landing at New Gwadar Airport.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the importance of the all weather strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, describing it as “an anchor of regional stability” and “a beacon of hope for a global peace and prosperity”.

“We are proud of our collaboration in various fields from the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to cultural exchanges, education, defence production,” the prime minister said while addressing an event of unveiling of sculptures of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Chinese leader Mao Zedong at the PM House.

Niece of Chairman Mao Zedong Mao Xiaoqing also graced the event.

He said the historic bonds between Pakistan and China spanned over decades was a testament to our shared values, of mutual respect, trust and cooperation.

The prime minister highlighted that both leaders recognized the immense Pakistan-China relations and “today our all weather strategic partnership is an anchor of regional stability under these challenging global circumstances”.

He said Quaid-e-Azam was the founder of Pakistan and his great leadership played a decisive role to carve out Pakistan from sub-continent through outstanding leadership and great sacrifices by the Muslims.

Appreciating the great work done by Chinese renowned artist and sculptor Yaun Xikum who made the sculptures of the great leaders, the prime minister said he had have wonderfully, captured the essence of the these two iconic leaders.

The prime minister recalled that during his recent visit to China in June this year, on the recommendation of the President Xi, he went to Xian and had the opportunity to visit the Terra Cotta museum, a symbol of past glorious and heritage.

Similarly, he said Pakistan proudly traced its history to the Indus valley civilization, whose relics were preserved in Mohenjo Daro and Harappa.

“So by these accounts, today’s ceremony is very special and unique as we honour the vision and legacies of our founding fathers who held a common vision of independence, justice, equity, emancipation and self respect for the two nations,” he added.

The first batch of agricultural graduate is going to visit China and have education in the filed to attain modern techniques and expertise in agriculture, he told.

Yaun Xikum, on the occasion said the greatness of both Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mao Zedong compelled him to make these sculptures.

ISLAMABAD:  Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang met with President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari where important issues between the two countries were discussed.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, who is on a visit to Pakistan, met the President Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where both leaders stressed the need to speed up the implementation of Pakistan-China Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

Welcoming the delegation, the president emphasized that Pakistan’s friendship with its all-weather partner remained a cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy.

He stressed the importance of exploring new avenues for cooperation as there was more space to expand bilateral relations. He also underscored the need to enhance connectivity through all-weather road networks to strengthen trade and people-to-people linkages.

He said that Chinese companies should benefit from the investment opportunities in Pakistan by investing in the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The president stated that the time was ripe to fully leverage China’s economic growth, particularly through the opportunities presented by CPEC and the Gwadar Port.

He shared that he would be visiting China in November and looked forward to reconnecting with old friends and engaging in discussions to further strengthen bilateral ties.

President Zardari expressed his heartfelt condolences over the tragic loss of two Chinese nationals in a terrorist attack, stating that the heart-breaking incident deeply grieved the entire nation.

President Asif Ali Zardari appreciated China’s support to Pakistan on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He reiterated Pakistan’s support to China on all its core issues, including the “One China” policy, Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and the South China Sea.

Speaking on the occasion, Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed that Pakistan and China were good brothers, neighbours, partners, and friends. He emphasised that Pak-China strategic cooperation would continue to deepen under the leadership of President Xi Jinping.

He acknowledged the contributions of President Asif Ali Zardari in promoting stronger Pakistan-China relations. Premier Li highlighted that both nations had consistently supported each other, regardless of global challenges, and expressed confidence that they would continue to cooperate to take their partnership to new heights.

The premier emphasized the need to accelerate the progress of development projects under CPEC. He highlighted that China would continue to support Chinese companies to invest in Pakistan.

The Chinese Premier appreciated Pakistan for its firm support to China on all its core issues, including the “One China” policy, Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and the South China Sea.

SCO Summit: PM urges collective efforts for peace, development

ASTANA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to SCO objectives of peace and prosperity, urged the member states to put in their collective efforts against terrorism, poverty alleviation and dispute resolution, particularly the ongoing Israeli barbarism in Palestine.

“I reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to working together to strengthen SCO as an active and integrated regional forum to achieve the common objective of peace and prosperity in line with the Shanghai spirit,” the prime minister said addressing the 24th summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which commenced here in the capital city of Kazakhstan.

Titled “Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue – Striving Towards a Sustainable Peace and Prosperity,” the summit is being attended by leaders from Pakistan, China, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkiye, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, India and others.

The prime minister’s address encompassed all major regional and international issues including terrorism and extremism, Islamophobia, instability in Afghanistan, poverty, climate change, regional connectivity, and resolution of disputes.

The prime minister said that Astana held significance for Pakistan where the country had formally joined the SCO in 2017 and congratulated Belarus for being the newest member.

He also felicitated Chinese President Xi Jinping on assuming the SCO chairmanship for 2024-25 and expressed confidence that under his visionary leadership, SCO would continue to grow and prosper.

Highlighting Pakistan’s ideal geostrategic location, the prime minister said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) – a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) also supplemented the SCO’s vision of regional connectivity and economic integration.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calling the lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan the linchpin to achieving the SCO objective, urged the international community to meaningfully engage with the interim Afghan government to help meet their economic needs.

Similarly, the interim Afghan government must also take effective measures to prevent the use of its soil for terrorism against any other state, he stressed.
