ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission(SUPARCO) has made significant progress in space technology.

SUPARCO’s indigenously developed Electro-Optical (EO1) satellite has been announced for launch on January 17. This satellite will be launched into space from a satellite center in China.

SUPARCO spokesperson said that Pakistan’s indigenous EO-1 satellite is an important step in space exploration.

The spokesperson said that the satellites are ready for launch to advance national development. He said that this satellite has been designed to help in disaster response and agriculture.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) inaugurated the first Space Application and Research Center in Gilgit-Baltistan((SPARC-GB).

According to spokesperson SUPARCO, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Gulbar Khan inaugurated Pakistan’s first space research center.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan emphasized on the role of space technology in regional development efforts.

Besides, the Chief Minister emphasized on close cooperation with SUPARCO for advancement in technology.

According to the spokesman, SUPARCO’s center is committed to addressing environmental and socio-economic challenges in Gilgit. SUPARCO Center will strengthen satellite-based monitoring of environmental challenges in Gilgit.

The spokesman said that the new research center in Gilgit will provide important data on glacier monitoring and landslides, and the center will collaborate with international research organizations on disaster management and protection.

According to the spokesperson, SUPARCO Center will inspire young minds with dynamic research and educational programs.

Chairman SUPARCO Muhammad Yousuf Khan in his welcome address highlighted the establishment of SPARC-GB as a hub for cutting -edge research and innovation. He emphasized that the center supports the local community through employment, capacity building, and development initiatives.

He also noted the region’s vulnerability to climate change and stressed the need for urgent action and enhanced local capacity.

He underscored that with SPARC-GB’s operationalization, satellite-based monitoring capabilities will be further strengthened to address environmental challenges in the region.

Attended by researchers, scientists, environmentalists, and students, the inauguration highlighted SPARC-GB’s mission to drive innovation and provide cutting-edge solutions to the region’s environmental challenges.

With its advanced space-based technology, the center is poised to deliver critical data on glacier monitoring, landslide risks, and unpredictable weather patterns, ensuring the resilience and safety of local communities.

In collaboration with the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan and international research organizations, SPARC-GB will provide technological assistance to address local challenges, including disaster management, ecological conservation and socio-economic development.

Pakistan all set to launch new satellite on May 30

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) is all set to launch a new satellite PakSat MM1 on May 30 through the support of China, in accordance with the National Space Program 2047.

The Project Management Team of Paksat MM1 has finalized all the arrangements for the launch of this new satellite through evaluating its performance.

Project Director, PakSat MM1, M. Imran said “Our team is very excited for the upcoming launch of PakSat MM1 on May 30”. The satellite PakSat MM1, conceived keeping in sight the growing needs of the country in the broad spectrum of communication and connectivity, would be launched from Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC), China.

This satellite project is a hallmark of technological cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Pakistan and is expected to revolutionise communication in Pakistan and serve as a giant leap towards a digitally connected Pakistan. Based on advanced communication technologies, PakSat MM1 will play a pivotal role in the socio-economic uplift of the country and will prove to be a stepping stone in the transformation of the country into Digital Pakistan.

The launch ceremony will be shown live for media from the Islamabad and Karachi establishments of Suparco. The satellite is expected to contribute to the establishment of a sophisticated communication network and help meet the growing demands of the telecom sector and its advanced capabilities will address the increasing demand for high-speed internet and seamless connectivity. SUPARCO says “This high-power multi-mission satellite will provide communication services in C, Ku, Ka Bands and SBAS services in L Band. Based on advanced communication technologies, PakSat-MM1 will play a pivotal role in the socio-economic uplift of the country. It will prove to be a stepping stone in the transformation of the country into Digital Pakistan.

This satellite is a communication satellite that will be sent in a Geostationary Orbit.

Earlier, Pakistan’s historic lunar mission (ICUBE-Q) was launched on May 3 on board China’s Chang’E6 from Hainan, China. The satellite iCube-Qamar mission marked Pakistan’s first lunar exploration effort which is a significant milestone for the country’s space endeavours.
