Sherry Rehman demands immediate CCI session to tackle water crisis

ISLAMABAD: Senator Sherry Rehman, PPP’s Parliamentary Leader in the Senate called for a Council of Common Interest (CCI) meeting to clarify the government’s position on commercial farming in desert areas and building canals on the Indus River, highlighting the need for water conservation and a peaceful solution.

Speaking on an adjournment motion in the Senate, Rehman noted that the Council of Common Interest (CCI) had not met in the past 11 months and called for urgent action to address water distribution issues.

She warned that the government’s plans could significantly disrupt water distribution in Sindh, worsening water scarcity and causing environmental damage.

She pointed out that Sindh, heavily dependent on the Indus water system, is facing significant water diversion, further escalating the region’s water shortage. She called for urgent government action to address the inequitable water distribution and prevent unrest among agricultural communities.

Shibli Faraz, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, reaffirmed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s support for the rights of lower riparian areas. He also emphasized the necessity of convening a CCI meeting to resolve the pressing water scarcity issues.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Senator Syed Shibli Faraz has written a letter to Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee for the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner.

The leader of the opposition in the Senate, Senator Shibli Faraz, wrote a letter to Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee for the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner.

Shibli Faraz’s letter states that the current Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja’s tenure is ending on January 26, 2025.

In the letter, it was requested that a parliamentary committee should be formed as soon as possible to appoint the Chief Election Commissioner.

PTI leader Shibli Faraz resigns as member of JCP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leader Shibli Faraz on Wednesday resigned as a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), after stepping down by Omar Ayub, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.

Leader of PTI and leader of opposition in the Senate Shibli Faraz also resigned from the membership of the JCP while Senator Ali Zafar will now represent party in the Judicial Commission.

Umar Ayub and Shibli Faraz have resigned from the JCP the instructions of founder PTI.

Two days ago PTI nominated Barrister GoharAli  Khan from National Assembly and Ali Zafar from Senator for Judicial Commission.

Earlier, Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Umar Ayub has resigned from the membership of Judicial Commission of Pakistan.

Umar Ayub has submitted his resignation to the Speaker National Assembly and has nominated Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Ali Khan as a member of the JCP in his place.

Umar Ayub said that he has decided to resign from the Judicial Commission due to the cases filed against him.

According to Umar Ayub, the current legal challenges are a hindrance to the effective performance of the JCP.

It is in the interest of the organization that “I nominate someone else in my place who can give full attention to this important role”.

IHC orders removal of Shibli Faraz’s name from ECL

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court(IHC) has ordered the removal of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI)  leader Senator Shibli Faraz’s name from the Exit Control Lists(ECL) within a week.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of Islamabad High Court heard the contempt of court petition on the issue of not removing the name of PTI leader Shibli Faraz from the exit control list.

The Islamabad High Court ordered that the name of Shibli Faraz be removed from the ECL within a week.

During the hearing, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri said that if the court order is not implemented, the Interior Secretary should appear at the next hearing.

It should be noted that Shibli Faraz had filed a contempt of court petition for not removing the name from ECL on the court order.

Senate passes bill imposing 3-years jail term for unauthorised gatherings

ISLAMABAD: Senate approved “Peaceful Assembly and Public Peace Bill” with majority vote before the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) rally in the federal capital.

Through this bill imprisonment up to three years for holding or participating in unauthorised protests in the capital city despite opposition by the PTI.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui, while presenting the bill, said that the Standing Committee Interior has approved the bill by 6 to one, it should be approved immediately.

On this, PTI’s Senator Ali Zafar said that this law is being made to stop PTI’s rally.

In response to Ali Zafar’s criticism, Irfan Siddiqui said that this bill has nothing to do with any rally, the entire city is currently in a cage and under siege.

Later, opposition leader Senator Shibli Faraz addressed the chair that “you are misusing your authority. Your malice is evident. You will also face the music, one day. The city is locked down when [international] cricket teams come here.”

He offered the government to hold a rally. This law is made to target the PTI’s rally. The law minister cannot hoodwink the house, he added.

Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar said that the administration’s permission to PTI to hold a rally is still intact, a peaceful rally is party right.

Later, Senator Siddiqui moved the motion for “Peaceful Assembly and Public Peace Bill, 2024,” in the House which was passed by a majority vote.

Senator Syed Shibli Faraz praised China’s policy of Reform and Opening-Up, which has propelled it to become the world’s second-largest economy and stressed the relevance of these principles for Pakistan’s economic and social development.

Emphasising the deep-rooted and enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, highlighting it as a model of bilateral relations built on mutual respect and shared goals, he reaffirmed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) commitment to this vital relationship, noting its importance not only in terms of bilateral cooperation but also as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

Acknowledging China’s pivotal role in global affairs, particularly within the Global South, and expressed support for China’s vision of a multipolar world, he highlighted China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a transformative project with the potential to reshape global trade routes and foster the economic cooperation.

Senator Syed Shibli Faraz reiterated PTI’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan-China relations and working closely with Chinese counterparts to explore new avenues of cooperation.

IHC orders removal of Senator Shibli Faraz’s  name from ECL

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered to remove the name of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Senator Shibli Faraz from the Exit Control List (ECL).

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of Islamabad High Court heard the petition related to Shibli Faraz’s ban on going abroad.

The petitioner’s lawyer told the court that there are 4 FIRs against Shibli Faraz and he is on bail in all of them.

The court asked the public prosecutor what is the ground now, to which the public prosecutor said that government will follow what the court orders.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri said that the Ministry of Interior and DG Passports could not satisfy the court, the name should be removed from the ECL within a week and a report should be submitted to the court.

The Islamabad High Court adjourned the hearing by issuing an order to DG Passport and Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)  to submit the implementation report.

ISLAMABAD: Senator Saleem Mandviwala of Pakistan People’s Party(PPP)  has been elected as the Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue.

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Senators Shibli Faraz and Mohsin Aziz strongly protested the election of Salim Mandviwala as Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and boycotted the session. The both PTI senators walked out expressing reservations on the matter.

Senator Shibli Faraz while addressing the Senate session said that no one knew about the establishment of the committees till last night.

Senator Ali Zafar said that the committee which is related to the accountability of the government goes to the opposition.

On the other hand, Senator Sherry Rehman in response said that the impression is being given that there was irregularity in the committees, PTI did not get a committee of by choice, that’s why party senators are saying all this.

Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazir Tarar said that committees are always made by the Senate Secretariat, when PML-N was in the opposition, party asked for the Interior and Law Committee.

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad has summoned Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI)  founder Imran Khan to court on June 28 in the case of violation of Section 144, vandalism.

Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra of the Anti-Terrorism Court heard the case filed under the terrorism provisions at Ramna police station.

Syed Shibli Faraz, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Ali Nawaz Awan appeared in the court.

The court issued bailable arrest warrants for Murad Saeed, Hammad Azhar, Farrukh Habib, Hassan Niazi and other workers in their absence.

The court wrote in the order that the founder of PTI is present in Adiala Jail and he should be presented to the court on the next hearing.

Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra also issued summons for PTI founder Imran Khan to appear in court and adjourned the hearing till June 28.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) has decided to take action against the party senators who played a role in the passing of the Army Act.

A meeting of the core-committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was held in Lahore, which was chaired by Chairman PTI.

According to the spokesperson of PTI, the overall political situation of the country was discussed in the meeting and preparations for the upcoming elections, political strategy were also discussed.

The spokesman says that the role of PTI members in the process of approving the Army Act was reviewed in the meeting.

The spokesman said that the commission comprising Senator Shibli Faraz will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter and action will be taken against the members over violation of party policy.

Earlier, the Senate had approved the Army Act Amendment Bill, under which unauthorized disclosure of information obtained in the national security and interest in an official capacity will be punished up to 5 years.

LAHORE: Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) leader Shibli Faraz has said that Imran Khan’s security has been withdrawn while the former prime minister is provided with security under the law.

Addressing a press conference, Shibli Faraz said that a letter has been received from the Punjab government that the security of the former prime minister has been withdrawn.

He said that apart from the Punjab Police, who were responsible for the security of Imran Khan, the  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP) Police has also been withdrawn, while the former Prime Minister has the right to have security.

He said that there is a threat to Imran Khan and everyone knows where the threat is coming from, if anything happens to Imran Khan, Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah will be responsible.

Shibli Faraz said that the rule of law is necessary for the country, but at present, there is darkness in the country and the nation has hope from the judiciary.

He said that there is severe political and economic instability in the country while the government is breaking the constitution and Article 6 applies to breaking the constitution.

Former federal minister said that the Election Commission has made a controversial person as the caretaker chief minister and the caretaker chief minister is against Imran Khan and PTI, while the caretaker cabinet should have non-political people, but it seems that the people of the cabinet have come under political agenda.
