Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, in his post-budget speech, on Thursday severely backlashed the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) government over the “fake budgets”.

During his speech, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif said the PTI government had resulted in job losses for five million people.

Sharif has delivered his speech three days after the National Assembly session which was full of chaos with Govt and Opposition was under fire while accusing each other with continuous jeering.

He said, “In the last three years, many taxes were imposed by the PTI government because of which the poor man’s meals have been halved.”

“Hunger and hopelessness had been created in the country because of previous budgets,” Sharif said.

He further added that the Budget 2021-2022 would further boost inflation and the poor would suffer more.

“Twenty million people have fallen below the poverty line in these three years. Income has been reduced by 20 per cent. People are asking where are the 10.5m jobs [promised by the PTI]. As a result of these fake budgets, 5m people have lost their jobs.”

The PML-N leader further lambasting the Imran Khan-led government said, “They say we will create Naya Pakistan. It is obvious that the old Pakistan was better when the country was somehow made to progress.”

“You had pushed us against the wall even when we tried to help you during the stressful times of coronavirus,” he added.

Shehbaz Sharif further pointed out that there was a “lack of trust” among provinces and between the provinces and the federal government, claiming that “such differences have never been seen before.”

“If only Punjab progresses and the rest of Pakistan does not, then it is not progress,” he emphasized.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif will challenge the government’s decision to include his name on the exit control list (ECL) next week at the Islamabad High Court.

Shehbaz Sharif had attempted to withdraw his petitions filed at the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday. He had also filed petitions against the government for placing his name on the ECL.

The petition by the leader of the Opposition sought approval from the court to switch the main petition against the government’s decision to include his name on the ECL, and a subsequent application for implementation of the order allowing him a visit abroad.

The PML-N leader’s petition will be heard by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi. The next hearing of Sharif’s pending petitions is fixed for May 26. The government will also file a written reply to Sharif’s petitions.

The PMLN president has decided that the contempt application would not be withdrawn against the authorities responsible for stopping him from flying abroad in the last week of April, despite LHC’s permission.

In the petition, he had contended that the Lahore High Court had once allowed him to go abroad for treatment, the court had clearly ruled that he was allowed to go abroad for eight weeks but stopped at the airport despite the court order.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has on Saturday (today) said that Shehbaz Sharif’s lawyers have not yet requested Director-General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to remove his name from the court’s blacklist.

Taking to his Twitter, Fawad said that the DGFIA ​​has the authority to remove names from the blacklist. “The record cannot be changed on word of mouth alone, the government will approach the court against this decision,” he added.

The statement by the Minister for Information came after the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif was offloaded from a Qatar-bound flight at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore.

According to sources, the flight was scheduled to take off at 4:50 am. The PML-N leader was issued a boarding pass with his luggage scanned but was stopped from boarding the plane, added sources.

On Friday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) announced the reserved verdict on Sharif’s plea seeking exclusion of his name from the blacklist. However, he was allowed to fly abroad.

The minister took to Twitter and wrote that the PTI government will take all legal steps against the decision. The Prime Minister has pointed out the weaknesses of our justice system many times but the opposition is not ready for reforms and the main reason is that their interests are attached to this rotten system.

While sharing the document he further wrote, “Shehbaz Sharif had submitted this guarantee in court to get Nawaz Sharif out of the country, now instead of giving notice to Shahbaz Sharif for giving fake guarantee, Nawaz Sharif is being called back, Shahbaz Sharif himself is allowed to go abroad.

Earlier on Thursday, during the hearing of the petition, Sharif told the court that he needs to travel abroad for medical treatment, therefore his name should be removed from the list.

He further told the court that he had travelled abroad for treatment purposes in the past as well and came back to Pakistan.

He stated that he has served as the provincial chief minister thrice and is not a terrorist so why his name was included in the blacklist.

The PML-N leader had moved a writ petition in the LHC, stating that he was granted bail in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal and Ramzan Sugar Mills references, after which he went abroad and flew back after four months.

He stated that after his return, the federal government added his name to the blacklist without any reason.

Ramzan Sugar Mills case: AC takes notice of Hamza Shehbaz’s absence in the hearing

An accountability court in Lahore has taken notice of the absence of Hamza Shehbaz in the hearing of Ramzan Sugar Mills case today (Saturday) and sought written response from the jail officials.

Judge Amjad Nazir Chaudhry conducted the hearing of Ramzan Sugar Mills corruption reference against Hamza Shehbaz.

A judicial officer apprised the AC that the accused rejected to travel by bullet-proof van to appear in the hearing.

He said that a bullet-proof vehicle is present inside the jail, however, Hamza is not coming out of his prison cell.

He added that the warrants against the PML-N leader were presented in the court.

However, the court took notice of Hamza Shehbaz’s absence in the hearing and ordered the jail officials to submit a written response to clarify the reasons for not producing him.

Judge Amjad Nazir Chaudhry also directed the NAB to produce its witnesses in the next hearing.

He also asked authorities to modify the date on the warrants of Hamza.

Furthermore, the accountability court adjourned the hearing till November 10.

Ramzan Sugar Mills case

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference accusing former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shehbaz and others for causing losses to the national exchequer and misusing authority by sanctioning construction of a bridge to facilitate the sugar mills.

NAB officials say, Shehbaz Sharif misused his authority by issuing directives for the construction of a 10-kilometre-long drain in Chiniot primarily to benefit the sugar mill owned by his sons.

Shehbaz and Hamza have been accused of fraudulently causing a Rs 213 million loss to the national exchequer.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will present PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif before an accountability court today (Tuesday).

The bureau will request for his physical remand for further investigation into money laundering case against him. Special security arrangements have been made to deter any untoward incident.

On Monday, the NAB arrested Shehbaz Sahrif after the Lahore High Court (LHC) denied him further extension in his interim bail.

The NAB team arrested him from the courtroom and took him to the NAB Lahore headquarters amid tight security.

A large number of PML-N supporters who were present on the court premises chanted slogans against the NAB and the government and clashed with the police.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice Sardar Ahmed Naeem and Justice Farooq Haider dismissed the petition as withdrawn.

On the other hand, Maryam Nawaz, PML-N Central Vice President termed Shehbaz Sharif’s arrest as a sad day and said that the only reason for arresting Shehbaz Sharif was that he stood with his brother Nawaz Sharif.

She said that the PML-N leader has been punished for his loyalty to his elder brother, Hamza Shehbaz has not been proved guilty yet he is still in jail.

Maryam further added that Shehbaz Sharif had said that the APC declaration will be implemented 100%. This is the first time such a crackdown has taken place on the opposition. The government is innocent even after committing every sin.

The PML-N vice-president said that Shehbaz Sharif was not arrested on any corruption charge. He belonged to a business family which has been doing business since 1930.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has met his son, Hamza Shehbaz at Kot Lakhpat Jail to inquire after his health.

According to sources, Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza’s meeting continued for around 1.5 hours at Kot Lakhpat’s prison cell.

They exchanged views on the current political situation and other party affairs.

Sources added that Shehbaz also informed Hamza about the decisions taken in the all parties conference (APC). They also discussed the chances of more arrests by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The opposition leader in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif, had earlier met his son Hamza Shehbaz on September 13.

Earlier, The Lahore High Court (LHC) had extended interim bail of Shehbaz Sharif in money laundering case till September 28.

According to the details, the PML-N leader had filed an application in the High Court for his bail.

A two-member bench of the LHC headed by Justice Sardar Ahmed Naeem heard his bail plea.

NAB Lahore had requested the high Court to reject Shehbaz Sharif’s bail application.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem will hear the bail plea of the opposition leader. However, he is expected to appear before the court.

Earlier on September 16, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had extended interim bail of Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) in money laundering case.

On August 25, an accountability court had sought arguments on an application seeking to unfreeze assets of Shehbaz Sharif and members of his family.

Shehbaz had stated in his plea that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) froze his family’s properties in utter disregard for the actual facts as assets can not be frozen during the process of investigation.

He had requested the accountability court to review its verdict of allowing the national graft buster to freeze the assets.

Last year on December 11, the accountability court had ordered authorities to freeze properties of the PML-N president and his family.

The court, in its verdict, had directed the authorities concerned to freeze all assets of Shehbaz Sharif, Hamza Shehbaz, Suleman Shehbaz, two wives of the leader, including Nusrat Shehbaz and Tehmina Durrani.

Moreover, Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz’s medical reports had been presented before an accountability court of Lahore on September 14.

The accountability court had conducted the money laundering case against Shehbaz Sharif family.

According to PML-N leader Atta Tarar, Hamza Shehbaz had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Doctor Muhammad Afzal Khan of Kot Lakhpat Jail presented medical reports of Hamza Shehbaz and stated that the PML-N stalwart will undergo another coronavirus test.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has said a joint course of action will be announced by key opposition parties in the next few days.

Shehbaz Sharif made the remarks after a meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman at his Islamabad residence today (Tuesday).

“We will announce a course of action in a few days,” Shehbaz said while addressing a press conference alongside Fazl.

“We had a good conversation [with Fazl] and are in consensus. We will sit together with other opposition parties and take this consultation session forward,” he said

Fazl, adding to Shehbaz’s remarks, said that they had a good meeting and that the opposition was well on their way to arriving at a common platform.

“We had already called a meeting of the smaller opposition parties for today; however, it was postponed due to Mir Hasil Bizenjo’s death. The meeting will now be held at a later date,” he said.

He added that opposition parties were firm on working together towards a joint strategy. “We want all the opposition parties united on a joint strategy,” Fazl said.

An accountability court on Friday issued notices to PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and members of the Sharif family to appear before regarding money laundering case and assets beyond means reference on August 27.

Last week, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against 16 accused, including Shehbaz and his son Hamza Shehbaz, in a money laundering case.

The case, which pertains to corruption to the tune of Rs7 billion, was filed in the court of an admin judge on August 17.

The reference, consisting of 55 volumes, also includes the names of Suleman Shehbaz, Rabia, Nusrat Shahbaz, and Nisar Ahmad. Daughters Rabia Imran and Javeria Ali have also been named in the reference while Suleman is a proclaimed offender in this case.
