ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reserved its decision regarding Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) intra-party election case.
A three-member bench, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, presided over the hearing.
CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja said that “If the intra-party election is not held, the electoral symbol can be withdrawn and the party can be de-notified”.
DG Political Wing Election Commission said that according to the constitution the term of office bearers of JUI-F is 5 years, the term was completed on July 7, 2024. On which the lawyer of JUI said that party moderator has been elected, 2023.
The election process has started since, JUI unit, district and tehsil elections have been held, it has taken a lot of time, now our provincial elections have started, intra party elections have been held in Gilgit.
Lawyer JUI-F said that party election takes a lot of time, there is no paperwork here, every worker is given the right to contest the election. The general election also came along, that’s why it took a lot of time.
The Chief Election Commissioner said what level of intra-party elections are JUI holding now. On which lawyer JUI said that on September 19 Punjab, followed by provincial elections of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan.
The Election Commissioner inquired how much time he wanted, to which the lawyer said we want 60 days, Sikandar Sultan Raja replied that it is too much time.
JUI’s lawyer said that the constitutional amendments are still going on, on which the Chief Election Commissioner remarked that the party election is not related to the constitutional amendments.
