Election Tribunal nullifies Agriculture Minister’s victory

QUETTA: The Election Tribunal declared the victory of Balochistan Agriculture Minister Ali Madad Jattak null and void and ordered re-election.

According Election Tribunal, re-election was ordered at 15 polling stations of Quetta Provincial Assembly seat PB-45 Quetta constituency.

The success of Ali Madad Jatak was challenged by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam candidate Mohammad Usman Pirkani before a tribunal comprising High Court Judge Abdullah Baloch.

The Election Tribunal directed that along with the termination of Ali Madad Jatak’s membership in the Assembly, his ministry portfolio should also be withdrawn.

ECP approves PML-N lawmakers request to change tribunal

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the reserved verdict and approved the request to change the Election Tribunal of Islamabad.

ECP approved the application of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) Anjum Aqeel, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Khurram Nawaz.

The Election Commission while giving a decision on the application of Anjum Aqeel, Tariq Fazal and Khurram Nawaz directed to transfer the applications related to the three constituencies to other tribunals.

It should be remembered that in the general elections of February 2024, the opposition candidates had leveled allegations of rigging against the candidates of the PML-N, who were successful in the three seats of Islamabad.

The Islamabad High Court had suspended the notification of the success of the three PML-N leaders while the matter was in the Election Tribunal.

Expressing no confidence in the election tribunal, the League leaders had filed a petition to refer the matter to other tribunals.

A few days ago, the ECP had reserved its decision on the requests of Muslim League-N leaders.

ECP rejects pleas challenging results of 3 Karachi NA constituencies

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected applications against the results of three National Assembly constituencies in Karachi.

The ECP has directed the petitioners to approach the Election Tribunal against the results of the three constituencies.

The applications of candidate Zahoor Uddin from NA-237 Karachi, Muhammad Yasir from NA-239 and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI)  candidate Khurram Sher Zaman from NA-241 have been rejected.

It should be noted that PPP candidates were successful in these three seats of the National Assembly.

PTI founder declared ineligible to contest election from Mianwali

Mianwali: After Lahore, the Election Tribunal also rejected the nomination papers of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) from Mianwali to contest the election.

Founder PTI Imran Khan’s nomination papers from NA 89 Mianwali were rejected by the returning officer(RO), against which he filed an appeal in the tribunal.

Rawalpindi High Court Bench Election Tribunal judge Justice Chaudhry Afzal heard Imran Khan’s appeal in which PTI leader Ali Zafar argued, while the tribunal reserved its decision on the appeal on January 7.

The Election Tribunal rejected Imran Khan’s appeal against the rejection of his nomination papers from NA-89 Mianwali and upheld the RO’s decision to disqualify him for the election.

Earlier, the Election Tribunal has declared PTI founder Imran Khan ineligible to contest the election from NA-122 Lahore as well.

Imran Khan had submitted nomination papers from two National Assembly constituencies, including NA 122 Lahore, NA 89 Mianwali, to participate in the general elections.

RAWALPINDI: The Election Tribunal upheld the disqualification decision of the Returning Officer and disqualified former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and his wife Qaisara Elahi from contesting the election.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Central President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and his wife Qaisara Elahi had challenged the returning officer’s decision to reject nomination papers from National Assembly Constituency NA-59 and Punjab Assembly Seat PP-23.

Judge Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of the Election Tribunal reserved the decision after hearing the arguments of the lawyers of the parties, which has now been pronounced.

The Election Tribunal upheld the decision of the RO to reject the nomination papers of both and said that the objection of concealing the assets and not disclosing the foreign visits of the wife was proved against them.

The objector’s objection of not disclosing shares in the statements and different companies was also upheld and the objection of not opening separate bank accounts for the two constituencies was also upheld.

MULTAN: The Election Tribunal rejected the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI)  Vice Chairman and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood.

Multan Appellate Tribunal judge Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar delivered the verdict in which he rejected the appeal filed against the rejection of the nomination papers of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi by the Returning Officer(RO).

Appeals filed by Shah Mahmood Qureshi for rejection of nomination papers in NA 150, 151 and PP 218, PP 219 were rejected by the Tribunal.

However, the Appellate Tribunal accepted the appeals of Shah Mahmood’s daughter Mehra Bano Qureshi and son Zain Qureshi.

Judge Election Tribunal reserves decision on appeal of Atif Khan

PESHAWAR: Election Tribunal Judge Justice Shakeel Ahmed reserved a decision on the appeal of former minister Atif Khan against the rejection of his nomination papers by the Returning Officer.

During a hearing on the appeal of the former provincial minister, the judge remarked that the people were the best judges in elections and they could elect whomever they wanted.

He said that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court had already made it clear that no one could be “Sadiq” and “Ameen” except Hazrat Muhammad (SWT). He questioned the lawyer of the Election Commission whether the nomination paper of an absconder could be rejected.

The EC lawyer referred to a judgment of the Sindh High Court and another of the Balochistan High Court. The petitioner’s lawyer contended that Atif Khan’s papers were rejected due to an FIR and in the light of a decision of the Balochistan High Court.

He argued that the Balochistan High Court’s decision applied to local body election candidates and not to the candidates of national and provincial assemblies.

Election Tribunal allows Akhtar Mengal to contest election

QUETTA: The Election Tribunal allowed Balochistan National Party (BNP) Mengal Group chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal to contest the election from NA-264.

In Quetta, the Balochistan High Court Judge Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar heard the appeal against the rejection of BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s nomination papers based on Iqama.

On the occasion of the hearing, Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s lawyers Sajid Tareen and Jawad Ahmed appeared in the tribunal.

He thought that Sardar Akhtar Mengal had obtained Iqama for travel purposes, he did not get any financial benefit from Iqama, the tribunal inquired on this occasion whether there is evidence of Sardar Akhtar Mengal being employed by Iqama.

On which his lawyers said that there is no evidence of salary or financial benefit through the establishment of Sardar Akhtar Mengal.

The petitioner’s counsel said that Sardar Akhtar Mengal had not mentioned Iqama in his nomination papers which falls under the category of malice.

The BNP chief’s lawyer said that other political leaders also got Iqamas but they have been declared eligible for the election.

KARACHI: Election Tribunal Malir has allowed Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab to contest the by-elections from Keamari Town.

4 candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and two candidates of Jamaat-e-Islami(JI) had challenged the approval of Murtaza Wahab’s papers.

The petitions filed against the approval of the papers of Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab were heard in the Election Tribunal Malir.

The petitioners stated that Murtaza Wahab is a resident of Gizri District South and according to local government rules, a candidate can contest elections only from the constituency where he is a resident and a voter.

During the hearing, the tribunal rejected all the applications filed against Murtaza Wahab.
