ECP releases new list of party position following by-polls

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the list of party positions in the National Assembly.

According to the Election Commission, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is the largest party in the National Assembly, while the Sunni Ittehad Council(SIC) is in the second place and the Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) is in the third place.

The ECP said that the number of PML-N members has increased to 120 and the number of SIC is 82.

The number of seats in the National Assembly of PPP is 71, while Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has 21, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal(JUI-F) 11,  Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) 5, and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) 4.

The Election Commission said that Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen(MWM), Muslim League Zia, Balochistan Awami Party(BAP) have one seat each, Balochistan National Party(BNP), National Party and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party(PkMAP0 have one seat each.

The number of independent members in the National Assembly is 7.

PPP candidate Akhunzada Chattan escapes bomb blast

BAJAUR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Akhundzada Chattan narrowly escaped in bomb blast in in Mamund Tehsil of Bajaur District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Bakht Munir, Akhunzada Chattan was safe in the rock blast, but his vehicle was damaged.

According to the DSP, the explosives were planted in a motorcycle parked on the roadside. When Akhunzada Chattan’s car approached the motorcycle, the explosion occurred.

Akhunzada Chattan is the PPP’s candidate for NA-8 of Bajaur in the by-elections scheduled for April 21.

Police said that Akhunzada Chattan was returning after addressing the rally.

It should be noted that by-elections will be held on April 21 in NA-8 Bajaur and PK-22 Bajaur.

An Independent candidate Rehan Zeib Khan was shot dead during election campaign on January 31. He was a candidate from NA-8 and PK-22. After his murder, the elections scheduled for February 8 on both the seats were postponed.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) nominated senior leader and former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani as the Chairman Senate.

The notification of the nomination of Yusuf Raza Gilani has also been issued by the Chairman PPP Secretariat.

The notification states that Yusuf Raza Gilani will be the People’s Party candidate for Senate Chairman.

Sindh lifts ban on recruitment in government departments

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party led Sindh Government on Wednesday lifted the ban on recruitment in all departments.

According to the spokesperson of the Sindh government, a cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, in which the cabinet approved the lifting of the ban on recruitment in all departments.

The Chief Minister directed that the Law Minister and Advocate General should end the ban on recruitment in the courts as well.

The Chief Minister said that projects worth $ 100 million have been started with the support of donor agencies regarding Karachi Water and Sewerage, the projects are for the supply of clean water and improving the infrastructure of the water board.

According to Sindh Chief Minister, World Bank will pay 40 percent of the total cost of the project, while Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will pay 40 percent and Sindh government will pay 20 percent.

On the other hand, Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah said that the ban on recruitment of primary and junior elementary school teachers has been lifted.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the notification of victory of Jamaat-e-Islami(JI) Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman from Sindh Assembly Constituency PS 129.

According to the notification, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman from Sindh Assembly Constituency PS 129 Karachi got the most votes of 26,296 votes among all the candidates.

According to the sources of Election Commission of Sindh, the notification of success was issued after the submission of Form C by Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman.

It should be noted that Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman announced his withdrawal from this seat after the general elections.

On the other hand, Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader Nasir Hussain Shah said that it would be good if Hafiz Naeem comes to Sindh Assembly, he is a good person and he should come.

LAHORE: Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has submitted his papers for the Senate election on Saturday.

Similarly, Pervez Rasheed, Mustafa Ramday and Ahad Cheema have submitted nomination papers from Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz(PML-N) in which former senator Pervez Rasheed has submitted papers for the general seat and Mustafa Ramday has submitted the papers for the technocrat seat.

Meanwhile, Faiza Malik from Pakistan People Party (PPP) also submitted papers to participate in the Senate election.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has submitted the nomination papers of nine candidates for the general seats, three each for women and technocrats, and two for minorities in Sindh. He expressed hope that his party would win almost all the seats. He added that the PPP would release the final list of its candidates after the scrutiny of the nomination papers on Monday.

When the Chief Minister was asked about the trend of PPP winning more votes in successive Senate Elections.

To a question, the chief minister said that except for PPP no other party has filed nomination papers for the ladies, Technocrat and Minorities seats of the senate so far. “They may file as there was enough time, but we have filed,” he said and added he was hopeful that his party would clinch maximum seats.

NA passes resolution condemning Israeli aggression in Gaza

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Friday unanimously passed resolution condemning the ongoing Israeli aggression against the people of Palestine.

The resolution was moved by Pakistan Peoples Party Member of the National Assembly, Shazia Marri. She said that all political parties in the House had signed the resolution.

The resolution recognized this day as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia and reiterated that Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance, and acceptance.

“The House recognizes this day as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. It reiterates that Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance and acceptance” the resolution said.

The resolution, “categorically condemns Israel’s war on Palestine, where the latest attack cost 21 lives of Palestinians standing in the line for aid during the holy month of Ramazan denounces the continued Israeli aggression, which has led to the loss of over 30,000 lives since October 7, 2023.”

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) has announced its support for Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) leader Yusuf Raza Gilani in the Senate by-election.

The by-election for the 6 vacant seats of the Senate will be held on March 14.

Among the Senate seats that will be held, by-elections are the seats vacated by Yusuf Raza Gilani, Maulana Ghafoor Haidari, and Nisar Khuhro, while by-elections will also be held on the seats vacated by Jam Mehtab, Prince Ahmad Umar and Sarfaraz Bagti.

Senate by-election will be held on one seat of Islamabad, 2 seats of Sindh, and 3 seats of Balochistan.

In the Senate by-election to be held on March 14, members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam will vote for Yusuf Gilani for the Islamabad seat.

Faisal Karim Kundi said in his statement that President Asif Zardari will make an official announcement regarding Aseefa Bhutto’s first lady and Asifa Bhutto will be the first lady who is the daughter of the President.

It should be noted that the statements of the Pakistan People’s Party and Bakhtawar Bhutto on social media made people curious.

A photo with President Asif Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto was shared from the party account and captioned with First Lady President.

Bakhtawar Bhutto later shared the same photo and wrote: From court hearings with President Asif Zardari to his fight to be released from prison, now as the First Lady of Pakistan, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari by his side.

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari had decided to make his daughter Aseefa Bhutto Zardari the first lady.

Polling for election of president begins

ISLAMABAD: Voting to elect the President of Pakistan started on Saturday in the Parliament House. The voting process will continue until 4:00 pm in the afternoon without any break.

Members of the National Assembly (NA) and the Senate are casting their votes. The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court is acting as the presiding officer.

A joint candidate of the PPP and PML-N, Asif Ali Zardari, and Sunni Ittehad Council’s candidate, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, are in the running for the office of president.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur and Speaker Babar Salim Swati polled their votes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly for presidential election. So far 41 members polled their votes.

Minister Arshad Ayub cast the first vote. Polling station has been set up for the presidential election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly under the supervision of Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Ibrahim Khan. Members of the Provincial Assembly will be able to cast their votes from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

109 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will participate in the presidential election. 9 members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam will not participate in the voting after announcing the boycott of the elections.

There is contest between Asif Ali Zardari, the candidate of the federal coalition government, and Mehmood Khan Achakzai of the Sunni Union Council. Parliamentary Leader of PPP Ahmad Karim Kundi is the polling agent of Asif Ali Zardari, while Minister Mina Khan is the polling agent of Mehmood Khan Achakzai. 91 members of Sunni Ittehad Council would vote in favor of Mehmood Khan Achakzai.

SHC orders to not count reserved seats votes in presidential election

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court(SHC) has issued an order to not count the votes of three reserved seats in the presidential election.

The court issued a short verdict on Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) petition for reserved seats.

PPP’s Smita Afzal, MQM Fauzia Hameed and PPP’s minority seat Surendar Valasai took oath yesterday.

However, today the SHC issued a written order in the case of not giving reserved seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council in the Sindh Assembly.

The court order states that in the presidential election, the court does not want to interfere in the process of voting by the members of the Sindh Assembly in favor of their favorite candidate, however, these three votes of the Sindh Assembly should not be considered as decisive votes. Until the final decision of the application is made.

According to the order, Advocate General Sindh has objected to the admissibility of the petition.

The court has asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), MQM Pakistan, PPP to respond on March 28.

On the other hand, the Sindh government is of the opinion that the three members of the Sindh Assemblies have taken oath on March 7 and the petition has become ineffective.

SC opinion on ZAB’s trial sets new history and tradition: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday congratulating the leadership and workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), said by admitting the mistake in Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s trial, the Supreme Court’s opinion on the presidential reference had set a new history and tradition.

The prime minister congratulated Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, President-designate Asif Ali Zardari, PPP leadership and workers for the Supreme Court’s observation that former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto did not get a fair trial.

Nomination papers of Asif Zardari for presidential elections approved

ISLAMABAD: The nomination papers of Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari for the presidential elections have been approved.

The nomination papers for the presidential candidate of former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari were submitted in the Islamabad High Court, which have been approved after scrutiny.

The Chief Election Commissioner is the Returning Officer of the Presidential Elections and he approved the papers of the former President after scrutiny.

PPP leader Farooq H. Naek said that no objection was raised on the nomination papers of Asif Zardari and his papers were approved as the presidential candidate.

PPP’s Mir Sarfaraz Bugti elected Chief Minister of Balochistan

QUETTA: Mir Sarfaraz Bugti of Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) has become the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

Polling for the election of the new Chief Minister was held in the session presided over by Speaker Balochistan Assembly Abdul Khaliq Achakzai.

Speaker Balochistan Assembly while announcing the results after polling said that Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has been elected Chief Minister by getting 41 votes.

It should be noted that only Sarfaraz Bugti had submitted the papers for the Chief Ministership of Balochistan, Sarfaraz Bugti also had the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) and Balochistan Awami Party(BAP).

In the 51-member house of the Balochistan Assembly, the number of members of the Pakistan People’s Party is 11, while the Muslim League-N is second with 10 seats and the Balochistan Awami Party is third with 5 seats.

ISLAMABAD: Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the joint candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) and  People People’s Party(PPP), was once again elected Speaker of the National Assembly.

The session for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly is being chaired by outgoing Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf.

After completing the process, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was elected Speaker by getting 199 votes while Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar, candidate of Sunni Ittehad Council, got 91 votes.

Later, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf administered the oath as the 23rd Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq.

After being elected Speaker Ayaz Sadiq went to the seat of Malik Amir Dogar and shook hands with him, Ayaz Sadiq also shook hands with Hamid Raza and Umar Ayub Khan.

After the election of the speaker, there will be voting in the National Assembly for the election of the deputy speaker. For the deputy speaker, the candidates of PML-N and PPP are Ghulam Mustafa Shah, while Junaid Akbar is the candidate from the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Earlier, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf told the members of the House about the procedure for electing the Speaker, after which Barrister Gohar and Umar Ayub of the Sunni Ittehad Council expressed their views on the point of order and said that until the members of the House the number is not complete how the election can be conducted.

ISLAMABAD:Ali Amin Gandapur has been elected as Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) here Friday.

The newly elected speaker, namely Babar Saleem Swati, who took the oath yesterday, presided over the KP Assembly session.

In the 106th House, Ali Amin Gandapur bagged 90 votes, while PML-N candidate Dr. Ibadullah Khan managed to secure 16 votes.

Ali Amin Gandapur, who won the elections from Dera Ismail Khan as an independent, had the support of the Sunni Ittehad Council, while his opponent was Ibadullah Khan of the Muslim League-N, who also got the support of the Pakistan People’s Party(PPP)  and PTI parliamentarians.

Speaker KP Assembly while announcing the results said that Ali Amin Gandapur got 90 votes while PML-N candidate Ibadullah got 16 votes, thus Ali Amin Gandapur got 90 votes and was elected as the Chief Minister.

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has formed a four-member committee for persuading different political parties to vote for the party’s presidential candidate, Asif Ali Zardari.

According to the notification issued here by the Chairman’s Secretariat by his Political Secretary Jameel Soomro, the committee is comprised of senior leaders including Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Parvez Sharaf, Syed Khursheed Shah, and Syed Naveed Qamar.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier during the last week, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP had announced Asif Ali Zardari as a joint candidate for the presidential elections.

Addressing a joint press conference at Zardari House in Islamabad, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif will once again be the country’s prime minister.

Bilawal Bhutto also said that the PML-N would support his father Asif Ali Zardari for the president’s slot. “Asif Zardari would be our joint candidate for president,” he said, adding that they all want to work according to the hopes of the people.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman said that the constitution of the country binds the President to summon a National Assembly session within 21 days after the general elections.

Talking to media persons, she said it was the responsibility of President Arif to convene the National Assembly session. She said that the summary of convening the meeting of the National Assembly was sent to the President Dr. Arif Alvi but he has not signed it till now.

Sherry Rehman further said that Arif Alvi’s tenure has already been plagued with controversy and even before he left, he was abiding by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf oath, not the presidential one. She said as per Article (2) 91 of the Constitution, the session is for 21 days after the election. Summoning is mandatory and does not require any pending matter.

PPP leader accused President Arif Alvi of trying to create a constitutional crisis and said the President should avoid any such unconstitutional measures before leaving.

About Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s case of presidential reference, she expressed hope that the court would rectify the injustice and ensure transparency and justice.

Murad Ali Shah elected Chief Minister of Sindh for third time

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Murad Ali Shah has been elected as Sindh Chief Minister for the third time.

PPP’s candidate Murad Ali Shah got 112 votes while Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) MQM’s Ali Khurshidi  got 36 votes.

Speaker Sindh Assembly Owais Qadir Shah presided over session of the Sindh Assembly in which the Leader of the House was elected.

After the election process was completed, the Speaker of the Sindh Assembly announced that the PPP candidate Murad Ali Shah was elected as the Sindh Chief Minister by getting 112 votes, while MQM’s Ali Khurshidi got 36 votes.

Murad Ali Shah has been elected as the 25th Chief Minister of Sindh.

PPP Member of Sindh Assembly Sardar Shah expressed his opinion in the House and said that today it is a matter of happiness for the city of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, Murad Ali Shah has been elected as the Chief Minister of this historic House for the third consecutive time.

Sardar Shah said that it is a matter of pride for the son to occupy the same position after the father.

CM Sindh election to be held on Feb 26

KARACHI: The election of the Sindh Chief Minister for the next five years will be held in the Sindh Assembly session here on Monday (February 26).

According to the schedule issued here by the provincial Assembly Secretariat, nomination papers will be issued and received on Sunday, and the final list of the interested candidates will be affixed to the notice board after scrutiny of the papers on the same day until the evening.

The poling for the election of the CM will be held at about 11 a.m. on Monday (February 26).

The majority party in the Sindh Assembly, the Pakistan People’s Party, has already nominated Sayed Murad Ali Shah as its candidate for the Chief Minister’s post.

PPP blocks oaths of three senators to get majority in Senate

KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership prevented three senators from taking oath as members of the National and Provincial Assemblies.

According to sources, Senator Yusuf Raza Gilani will not take oath as a member of the National Assembly at present.

Sources say that Senator Nisar Khuhro will not take oath at present despite being elected as a member of the Sindh Assembly.

Senator Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar who succeeded from PS18 Ghotki will also not take oath for now.

Sources said that the decision was taken to maintain a numerical majority in the Senate elections.
