Senate panel approves bill to increase seats in Balochistan

ISLAMABAED:  The Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice has approved the constitutional amendment bill to increase seats in Balochistan.

Senator Farooq H. Naek presided over a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice.

The report of the sub-committee formed regarding the constitutional amendment bill to increase seats in Balochistan was presented in the meeting.

Senator Zameer Hussain said that we have suggested that the seats in Balochistan should be increased from 65 to 80, while Senator Kamran Murtaza said that if there is an increase, then the seats in the National Assembly should be increased.

Farooq H. Naek said that the report does not say how many seats for women and minorities will be, we send this bill to the Ministry of Law.

Senator Zameer Hussain Ghumro said that if the general seats will increase, then the specific seats will increase automatically. On which the chairman of the committee said that the minority seats will increase more.

Senate body supports impositions of sales tax on charitable hospitals

ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Finance has supported the imposition of sales tax on charitable and welfare health facilities.

The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance was chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwala in which the committee supported the abolition of sales tax exemption on charitable and welfare hospitals.

On this occasion, Senator Saleem Mandviwala said that a trustee hospital did not pay the bill of two millions to the deceased, if the government is giving tax exemptions, it should also audit these hospitals.

Senator Farooq H. Naek said that the trust hospitals have also appointed doctors who charge huge fees and their laboratories charge expensive fees in the name of the trust.

During the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)  officials said that government hospitals are paying sales tax but big private hospitals are not paying sales tax.

FBR officials told the committee members that the country’s big and expensive hospitals are run by trusts for which tax exemptions are now being removed.

On the other hand, the Standing Committee summoned the Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, on which the Chairman of the Standing Committee said that the Federal Finance Minister had given the time between 5 o’clock.

Nomination papers of Asif Zardari for presidential elections approved

ISLAMABAD: The nomination papers of Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari for the presidential elections have been approved.

The nomination papers for the presidential candidate of former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari were submitted in the Islamabad High Court, which have been approved after scrutiny.

The Chief Election Commissioner is the Returning Officer of the Presidential Elections and he approved the papers of the former President after scrutiny.

PPP leader Farooq H. Naek said that no objection was raised on the nomination papers of Asif Zardari and his papers were approved as the presidential candidate.

It should be noted that Mehmood Achakzai has been nominated as the presidential candidate by Sunni Ittehad Council(SIC).

Court issues notices to Zardari , Talpur in fake accounts case

KARACHI: The Banking Court has issued a notice to former President Asif Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur in the fake accounts case.

The Banking Court of Karachi heard the fake bank accounts case against former President Asif Zardari in which Farooq H. Naek appeared in court.

Farooq Naek told the court that the accused who had received notices have appeared in the court today but Asif Zardari and Faryal Talpur had not received the notices.

After hearing the arguments of Farooq Naek, the court issued a notice to Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur, and others for February 19.

It should be noted that the fake bank accounts case was transferred from Islamabad to Karachi in August last year, before that the case was transferred from Karachi to NAB Court Islamabad in November 2019.
