Seven passengers shot dead in Barkhan

QUETTA: At least seven passengers hailing from Punjab were killed by the unidentified armed men in Barkhan area of Balochistan province.

The attack took place in the Rarkan area, where unidentified armed men stopped a passenger bus and opened fire into the air.

The gunmen then boarded the bus, checked the passengers’ identity cards, and forcibly took seven individuals to a nearby mountain. Shortly after, gunshots were heard.

The victims were belonged to different cities of Punjab.

Assistant Commissioner Barkhan Khadim Hussain confirmed that seven passengers were gunned down after identification.

According to the Assistant Commissioner, the bus was going from Quetta to Faisalabad. The Levies and FC have surrounded the area. The bodies are being shifted to the hospital.

The bus passenger Zeeshan told the media that 10, 12 gunmen stopped the bus and then shot and killed 7 passengers.

Zeeshan said that his brother Adnan was also taken off the bus and was killed. The brother was taken off the bus after seeing the identity card.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti has strongly condemned the brutal killing of seven passengers in Barkhan, saying that terrorists are targeting innocent people.

He said that the cowardly act of the miscreants is unbearable and it will be strongly answered.

According to the Balochistan government, FC and Levies have arrived at the scene after the Barkhan incident and security forces are pursuing terrorists.

Bilawal Bhutto meets CM Bugti to discuss provincial issues

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti.

The meeting focused on the pressing issues faced by Balochistan, including the recent surge in terrorism and the devastating flood situation.

According to PPP Secretariat, Chief Minister Bugti briefed Bilawal Bhutto on the measures taken by the provincial government to combat terrorism and restore peace in the region.

The discussion also touched on the flood situation in Balochistan, triggered by recent rains, and the efforts underway to provide relief and support to affected communities.

Meanwhile, Chairman PPP called on Secretary General of PPPP Syed Nayyer Husain Bukhari and President of Human Rights Committee of PPP Farhatullah Babar.

They discussed current political landscape and organizational matters within the party.

Jaffar Mandokhail takes oath as Governor Balochistan

Quetta: Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandhokhail has taken oath as governor of Balochistan in a ceremony held at Governor House on Monday.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new Governor of Balochistan Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhail was held at the Governor House Quetta where the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar administered the oath to him.

Outgoing Governor Malik Abdul Wali Kakar and Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti also participated in the swearing-in ceremony of Balochistan Governor.

The provincial ministers, members of assembly, political personalities and officials also participated in the ceremony.

Speaking to the media after the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Balochistan said that he will play the role of a bridge between the federal government and the province. The problems and difficulties of the province will be discussed with the federal government.

He said that there is no knowledge regarding fencing in Gwadar and added that if it is being installed for security purposes then it is a good thing.

Sarfaraz Bugti strongly condemns Harnai blast

QUETTA:  Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti strongly condemned the bomb blast in Harnai, describing it a deplorable act of violence.

Bugti instructed the Home Department to provide a comprehensive report on the incident. He ordered to offer better medical facilities to the injured.

Bugti called the attack an act of cowardice and terrorism and ordered for immediate submission of investigation report of the incident.

He said the people of Balochistan and the security forces are united against the enemies of peace and will never let off those who shed blood of innocent people. “Peace will win in the war against those who spread terror and horror”, he added.

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti ordered the Chief Secretary to dismiss 2,000 absentee teachers in the province.

In a high-level meeting held regarding the education department, the chief minister directed the chief secretary of Balochistan to fire the absent teachers and submit a report within a month.

The chief minister also directed that there will be no interference in the education department, appoint district education officers on merit.

PPP’s Mir Sarfaraz Bugti elected Chief Minister of Balochistan

QUETTA: Mir Sarfaraz Bugti of Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) has become the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

Polling for the election of the new Chief Minister was held in the session presided over by Speaker Balochistan Assembly Abdul Khaliq Achakzai.

Speaker Balochistan Assembly while announcing the results after polling said that Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has been elected Chief Minister by getting 41 votes.

It should be noted that only Sarfaraz Bugti had submitted the papers for the Chief Ministership of Balochistan, Sarfaraz Bugti also had the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) and Balochistan Awami Party(BAP).

In the 51-member house of the Balochistan Assembly, the number of members of the Pakistan People’s Party is 11, while the Muslim League-N is second with 10 seats and the Balochistan Awami Party is third with 5 seats.

ECP issues election schedule for Senate vacant seats

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) has released the election schedule for the vacant seats of the Senate.

According to the schedule issued by the ECP, the election will be held on March 14 for the 6 vacant seats of the Senate.

The vacant seats in the Senate include the seats of Yusuf Raza Gilani, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, Nisar Khuhro, Jam Mehtab, Prince Ahmed Umar and Sarfaraz Bugti.

The nomination papers for the Senate seats can be submitted from March 2 to 3, after which the list of candidates will be displayed on March 3, while the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 5.

The appeals on nomination papers can be submitted till March 7 and the tribunals will dispose of appeals till March 9, nomination papers can be withdrawn till March 10.

Polling for Senate seats will be held in National Assembly, Sindh Assembly and Balochistan Assembly.

The National Assembly members will elect one member from Islamabad while Sindh Assembly members will elect two members and Balochistan Assembly members will elect three members.

QUETTA: Former President and Co-Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)  Asif Zardari formed a committee for the affairs of Balochistan.

According to sources, the committee formed by Asif Zardari includes Sanaullah Khan Zehri, Sarfaraz Bugti, Mir Changez Khan Jamali, and Ali Hassan Zehri.

On the other hand, Asif Zardari was met by the Awami National Party (ANP) newly elected member Balochistan Assembly Zamrik Khan, during which ANP’s Senator Umar Farraq and former Senator Dawood Khan were also present.

In the meeting, an ANP member of the Balochistan Assembly and Senator announced support for Asif Zardari for President.

Moreover, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani also met with Asif Zardari during which they discussed the Senate election, the presidential election, and government formation in Balochistan.

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Commerce, Industries, and Production Gohar Ejaz has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of the Interior Ministry.

A notification has been issued to make Gohar Ejaz the Caretaker Interior Minister. Gohar Ejaz also holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Investment and Trade.

Later, the caretaker Federal Minister Gohar Ejaz reached the Ministry of Interior and took over the portfolio.

Senior officials of the Interior Ministry welcomed the Federal Minister on his arrival.

It should be noted that after the resignation of Sarfaraz Bugti, the portfolio of Interior Minister was vacant.

ISLAMABAD: A sub-committee of the Federal Cabinet has recommended the names of Chairman Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) along with 29 others in the Exit Control Lists in the 190 million pound scam.

A meeting of the sub-committee on ECL of the federal cabinet was held in which the caretaker interior minister Sarfaraz Bugti, the caretaker Minister of Communication Shahid Ashraf, and the officers of the Ministry of interior and other institutions participated while the various types of cases related to ECL were reviewed in the meeting.

The cabinet sub-committee has recommended putting the names of 41 people on ECL, in which 29 others, including chairman PTI, have been recommended to be given ECL on the recommendation of NAB in the £190 million scam.

Sources said that the committee has also recommended the names of Shahzad Akbar, Zulfi Bukhari, Farah Gogi, and property tycoon to be included in the ECL.

The committee also recommended the removal of 13 different types of cases from ECL and on the instructions of judiciary, names of seven persons have been recommended to be removed from ECL.

Apart from this, out of the appeals presented for review, it has been recommended to remove the names of three persons from the ECL.

QUETTA: Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has claimed that the Indian spy agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) is involved in the acts of terrorism.

Talking to the media, Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said that once again terrorists have targeted the citizens, and we know who is doing all this and from where.

Sarfaraz Bugti said that all the organizations will take action against these terrorists together. He said, “We will not surrender to the terrorists, we know very well where their strings are being pulled from, from where they are doing all this”.  He said the network of the terrorist organization was not so active in Balochistan earlier.

He said that the terrorists would be taken out of their pockets and brought to an end. He said the state has decided that there is zero tolerance for terrorists, they will be protected until the end of the last terrorist.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet Sub-Committee on Exit Control List (ECL) has approved the inclusion of the names of 17 people in ECL.

A meeting of the Sub-Committee on Exit Control List of the Federal Cabinet was held in which the caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, Minister of Communications and Railways Shahid Ashraf Tarar, and other officials of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Law and other institutions participated in the meeting. During a meeting, different types of cases related to ECL were reviewed.

The committee approved the inclusion of 17 names in the ECL, which were sent by various departments and agencies.

According to the sources, approval was given to put the names of Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan’s wife friend Farhat Shahzai (Farah Gogi), and her husband Ahsan Jameel Gujjar in the ECL.

In the meeting, it was also recommended to remove seven different types of cases from ECL, out of the appeals presented for revision, it was recommended to remove the names of five people from ECL.
