MPAs call for revocation of K-Electric’s license in Sindh Assembly

KARACHI: Independent MPA Sajjad Soomro presented the resolution to revoke K-Electric’s license in the Sindh Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of Sindh, Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, supported the resolution.

Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar highlighted people’s dissatisfaction with K-Electric, adding that K-Electric had failed to address the public’s concerns.

The minister called for a session of the assembly committee against the atrocities committed by K-Electric.

The Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Ali Khursheedi, assured that a session against K-Electric would be held soon.

On the other hand, Ghulam Qadir Chandio claimed that action would be taken against K-Electric if its leader failed to comply with the committee’s decision.

The resolution resulted in the formation of an 11-member committee comprising of members of Sindh assembly.

The committee will evaluate the performance of K-Electric, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco), and the Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco). The committee includes members from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)

Sindh Assembly passes resolution to declare Bhutto as National Democratic Hero

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to declare the late former prime minister and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto a national democratic hero.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah submitted a resolution declaring Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as a national democratic hero in the Sindh Assembly.

Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Murad Ali Shah said that the Supreme Court itself has admitted that a mistake has been made in the Bhutto case, and the constitution will have to be amended to end the atrocities.

Chief Minister Sindh said that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto should be officially declared a martyr.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement(MQM) member Abdul Waseem said that grandfather was hanged and grandson heard the verdict. He said “We are living in a country where justice is lacking”.

Muhammad Farooq, a member of Jamaat-e-Islami(JI), supported the resolution and said that the country and the nation have suffered a loss. He said even today a prime minister is in jail and he was punished in the name of marriage. He demanded punish the democratic people on the basis of evidence, not on the basis of force and coercion.

KARACHI: The elections for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker slots in the Sindh Assembly will be held on February 25 (Tomorrow).

The nomination papers for the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker were received on Saturday daytime.

After the scrutiny, the final list of valid nominees will be affixed to the notice board of the assembly.

The voting for the slots will begin at 11 am on Sunday.

KARACHI: The election of the Sindh Chief Minister for the next five years will be held in the Sindh Assembly session here on Monday (February 26).

According to the schedule issued here by the provincial Assembly Secretariat, nomination papers will be issued and received on Sunday, and the final list of the interested candidates will be affixed to the notice board after scrutiny of the papers on the same day until the evening.

The poling for the election of the CM will be held at about 11 a.m. on Monday (February 26).

The majority party in the Sindh Assembly, the Pakistan People’s Party, has already nominated Sayed Murad Ali Shah as its candidate for the Chief Minister’s post.

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly has approved Sindh Protection and Promotion of Breast Feeding and Young Child Nutrition Act 2023, under the bill children will have to breastfeed for 36 months.

The house passed The Sindh Protection and Promotion of Breast-feeding  and Young Children Nutrition Bill 2023.

“It is expedient to ensure safe and adequate nutrition for infants and young children up to the age of 36 months by promoting protecting and supporting breast- feeding, promoting healthy diets to prevent obesity and non-communicable diseases and by regulating the marketing and promotion of designated products including breast milk substitutes, and of feeding bottles, valves for feeding bottles, nipple shields, teats and pacifiers,” the preamble of the bill read.

The government would also establish with a mandate of framing regulations, advising standards of designated products, and proposing guidelines to the government to establish an effective Monitoring System as per WHO/UNICEF protocol.

In this regard, the Parliamentary Secretary Health said that there is a large number of malnourished children in Sindh, the aim is to prevent the spread of diseases with other items such as feeders because the immunity of children is reduced by powdered milk.
