PESHAWAR: At least 13 people including six police officials were injured when their vehicle was targeted with a remote-controlled explosive device in South Waziristan.

Officials of Rescue 1122 informed that police officials were on their way to Krikot Kot area in a private vehicle when a roadside remote-controlled device went off with a big bang.

The powerful blast injured six police officials including constables Aurangzeb, Muhammad Tahir, Kamran, Noor Salam Attaullah and passersby, Sayyed Akhtar, Amanullah, Abid, Habib Jan, Noor Khatim.

Soon after the blast, rescue teams and police force reached the site and collected evidence for investigation.

The rescue workers provided first-aid to the injured and later shifted them to DHQ hospital. The police, after cordoning off the area, started an initial investigation into the incident.

18 die in road accidents across Punjab

MULTAN:As many as 18 people died in different road accidents across the province on the first day of Eid ul Azha.

According to Rescue 1122, the rescue team responded to 1903 accidents in Punjab on the first day of Eid and provided first aid treatment to 2089 people.

Most of the accidents were reported in Lahore, where 418 people sustained injuries in 382 different accidents. However, 125 accidents in Faisalabad, 120 in Multan, and 108 in Gujrawala were reported.

On the first day of Eid, 173 incidents of fire occurred in scattered places in the province.

In Lahore, there were 33 incidents of fire. However, fire incidents were also reported in Ralwalpindi, Attock, and Faisalabad.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmed urged citizens to contact the department in case of any emergency.

PESHAWAR: The prolong spell of rain started from Thursday evening has claimed around eight lives in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Apart from humans, reports about perishing of livestock have also been received from authorities of Rescue 1122 KP.

The deceased include five children, a woman and two men who died because of caving in of roofs of their houses.

Three children died in Kandao Mamond when roof of the collapsed due to persistent rain. The children died instantly after being buried under the debris and their bodies were extricated by Rescue 1122 staffers.

In Lower Dir district, three persons of a family including husband, wife and daughter, died at Molay Khat area in Talash when landslide fell on their house.

A total of four persons got trapped under the rubble out of whom three died and one is in hospital getting treatment.

The rescue operation continued amid heavy rain for around three and a half hours after which the trapped persons were extricated from the rubble.

The dead have been identified as Zahid son of Sher Mola (25 years), wife of Zahid (23 years), Harira (5 years) whereas, a child, Tafla Arham is injured.

In Batkhela area at village Aladand Dehrai, a woman along with her daughter died due to caving in of roof of their house.

The family of Noor Rehman, his spouse and their three daughter became buried under the debris after falling of house ceiling.

Massive fire erupts at mobile market in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The fire broke out in a multi-storey mobile market, Time Centre plaza here in Sadar Bazar on early Friday where  around 200 shops gutted.

The damage was estimated to be in millions of rupees as the Rescue-1122 fire-fighting teams could only extinguish 90 percent of the fire in the building till the filing of this news.

The police completely sealed Sadar Bazar and got the houses adjacent to the building vacated to avoid any loss of human life.

According to Rescue 1122 Bilal Ahmed Faizi, four shopkeepers got trapped in the building in a bid to take out their mobile phones and other precious electronic gadgets from their shops.

The Rescue teams safely evacuated the trapped persons, said the spokesman, adding that over 130 firefighters and 26 fire vehicles, four water containers and four ambulances were participating in the operation.

The fire-fighting officials and vehicles of Rescue-1122 were also called from Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda and Khyber to extinguish the fire.

The fire got wild after explosions of batteries and UPS in the mobile center.

The fire that broke out in the mobile market around 3 a.m. turned almost all mobile accessories, mobile phones, furniture and other items in around 200 shops to ashes.

The Rescue officials used different means including the use of smoke injectors and heavy machinery to overcome the trapped smoke and cool down the building.

Onlookers including affected shopkeepers flocked to take in the spectacle of the intensity of the fire.

KARACHI: As many as three people died and the two others injured when a six-storey apartment building in Karachi’s FB Area near Ayesha Manzil caught fire.

Earlier,  a shop caught fire as a result of a short circuit, but the flames later spread to other shops that were part of the furniture market situated under the building.

The fire spread rapidly and soon engulfed the entire building comprising 250 shops and 450 apartments, creating panic among the dwellers.

Senior Superintendent of Police Central said the fire broke out in a bed mattress shop, and the fire also engulfed nearby shops. He said that flats are built above the shops.

According to fire brigade officials, 12 fire tenders, two snorkels, and a bowser took part in rescue operation.

Rescue 1122 confirmed over 300 people have been evacuated. The rescue service also expressed the fear of building collapse due to the high intensity of the fire.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that he salutes the brave sons of the nation who saved the lives of the earthquake victims in Turkey.

In his Twitter message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he salutes the brave and dutiful sons of the nation who saved the lives of the sisters, brothers, and children of Turkey during the earthquake disaster. He said teams work day and night with the spirit of humanity.

 

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further said that it is a proud and inspiring sight to see the rescue team of Rescue 1122 returning home after the completion of the rescue operation in Turkey.

On the other hand, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said the people of Turkiye expressed their “heartwarming gratitude” for the Rescue 1122 team on their departure from Istanbul Airport for Pakistan.

“Heartwarming expression of gratitude for Pakistan’s Rescue 1122 Team at Istanbul Airport, departing for Pakistan,” she tweeted.

The minister also shared a video showing scenes from the Istanbul Airport where people paid tribute to the Rescue 1122 team for their rescue and relief efforts in Turkiye after the earthquake.

PIA plane carrying humanitarian assistance sent to Turkiye

KARACHI: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane carrying 51 people and humanitarian assistance has left for Turkiye on Tuesday. The team will include personnel of Rescue 1122.

According to the details, a special air operation has been started by PIA for Turkiye and Syria.

The spokesperson of PIA said that on the instructions of the government of Pakistan, the relief goods have left in the special flight PK 707.

The spokesman says that PK 707 has departed from Lahore to Istanbul with the Pakistani rescue team and their special equipment.

From February 8, every day on a PIA flight 15 tonnes of humanitarian assistance will be sent from Islamabad and Lahore to Turkiye and Syria.

Teams from the Ministry of Health and army medical corps have also departed for the two earthquake hit countries

Earlier, on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif a special plane carrying humanitarian assistance left for Turkiye.

A C-130 plane which was carrying the search and rescue team of the army left the Chaklala airbase for the earthquake-affected areas in Turkiye.

The assistance will include winter tents, blankets, and other essential items.

On other hand, On the order of the caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, the 52-member team of Rescue 1122 left for Turkiye. Director General Rescue Dr Rizwan Naseer led the team.

SUKKUR: Provincial Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah inaugurated 11 state-of-the-art Rescue 1122 ambulances in Sukkur which will be operated by Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services (SIEHS). Out of these two ambulances have been donated by China Aid specifically for CPEC route.

Sukkur is the ninth district to get Rescue 1122 ambulances after Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Larkana, Qamber, Shahdadkot, Badin, which are being operated under the guidance & funding of Health Department, Government of Sindh.

Out of these eleven ambulances, four will be Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), three will be Advance Life Support (ALS) & four will be Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances.

These ambulances are outfitted with life-saving drugs, medical equipment, and trained paramedics, and they will serve the region 24 hours a day, seven days a week to transport critical patients from their homes to hospital, hospital to hospital or from any accident location to hospitals.

The SIEHS Rescue 1122 ambulances’ command and control operations are supported by an ACE certified call center (Accredited Center of Excellence) system with a robust IT infrastructure.

This expansion of the emergency ambulances will not only provide quality pre-hospital emergency services to those in need in the district of Sukkur but also employment opportunities to technically trained residents of Sukkur district, ensuring improved quality of life.

Sukkur residents could access this service by dialing 1122 from any cellphone or landline.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has alerted the Provincial Disaster Management Authority(PDMA), Rescue-1122, and concerned departments relating to the provision of relief activities after a severe earthquake in various cities of Punjab.

He directed the concerned departments relating to the provision of relief activities to remain alert round the clock and keep a strict watch on the situation.

The CM directed the departments to make all necessary preparations and arrangements owing to any untoward situation.

Parvez Elahi directed authorities concerned to monitor the current situation 24/7 and update the required information every moment.

Earlier, an earthquake of 5.8 magnitudes on the Richter scale rattled Islamabad and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, Bol News reported.

The tremors were felt in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Malakand, and Swat. Whereas, quakes were felt in Attock, Jhang, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Chiniot, and their surrounding areas in Punjab. People came out of homes reciting kalima. Jolts were felt in Azad Jammu and Kashmir too.

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has inaugurated the first Rescue 1122 Sindh Emergency Service equipped with an ambulance service, fire service, urban search, rescue service, and water rescue service.

Chief Minister Sindh said that Rescue 1122 Sindh Emergency Service has been established under the Sindh Resilience Project of the World Bank while state-of-Art post medical health facility has been started in four districts of Karachi and Larkana.

He said that the Rescue 1122 service is available in Karachi, Larkana, Thatta, Sujawal, Qamber Shahdadkot, and Hyderabad. The service will also start in Badin from tomorrow.

He said that the first batch of 107 cadets has been assigned rescue work by giving special training and the training of a new batch of 315 is underway. 15 policemen will also be included in this rescue system.

Murad Ali Shah said that the emergency services will be further improved under which the location of the caller will be reached as soon as the call is made.

Regarding the government coalition, he said that the Sindh government is working with the allies, but there may be individual objections, and the media should not waste their time on this issue.

GUJRAT: As many as five people died in a tragic road accident occurred in Gujarat due to fog and over-speeding on Wednesday.

Rescue sources said five people were killed on the spot when a truck went out of control and crushed a motorcycle rickshaw near Sabzi Mandi on GT Road in Gujarat.

Rescue 1122 officials shifted the bodies to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital while the driver left the truck and escaped.

The victims belonged to different areas of Gujarat.

On the other hand, IG Punjab while issuing instructions to take special measures to prevent traffic accidents during the foggy season has ordered all the district traffic chiefs including Additional IGPHP, and DIG Traffic to deploy additional teams on highways.

The Spokesman of the Punjab Police said that the traffic rules should be strictly followed on all the roads and highways of the province, including the installation of fog lights and speed limit restrictions.

The spokesperson said that a vehicle with all its lights and indicators not working will not be allowed on the highway and strict legal action will be taken under zero tolerance for overspeeding and overloading.

The backlights and reflectors must be installed on sugarcane trolleys.

The Spokesman said that strict legal action will be taken on speeding and overloading vehicles. He said Punjab Highway Patrol teams should perform their duties more diligently to protect human lives in accidents in foggy weather.
