4 more polio cases reported in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The total number of polio cases in Pakistan has reached 63 this year as 4 more polio cases reported in the country.

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC)has confirmed 4 more polio cases in Pakistan. The  polio cases have been reported from Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Jacobabad and Sukkur.

According to the EOC, this is the 9th case of polio from Dera Ismail Khan, the third from Jacobabad and the first from Sukkur.

This year 26 polio cases have been reported from Balochistan, 18 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17 from Sindh, 1 from Punjab and Islamabad. The total number of polio cases across the country has reached 63.

On the other hand, Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, chaired a high-level meeting to finalize preparations for the upcoming seven-day anti-polio campaign set to begin on December 16.

During the campaign, over 10.6 million children across Sindh will be administered polio drops. Chief Secretary Sindh emphasized the critical importance of eradicating polio and ensuring every child receives the vaccine.

He announced that more than 80,000 frontline workers will participate in this extensive drive, and polio teams will also be deployed at all major bus terminals across the province to ensure coverage of children in transit.

Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah directed all deputy commissioners to make every effort to convince parents who refuse vaccination, urging them to cooperate for the safety and future of their children.

He also appealed to parents to support the polio teams in their mission to safeguard children from this debilitating disease.

The Chief Secretary stressed that no negligence in the training of polio workers would be tolerated.

He instructed the district administration and union council (UC) secretaries from the Local Government Department to remain active in the field throughout the campaign.

Lahore becomes world’s most polluted city again

LAHORE: The Lahore becomes the most polluted city of the world again with  4440 air quality index (AQI) reading on Thursday.

Due to the polluted winds from India, Lahore has once again come to the first place in the list of the most polluted cities in the world.

Lahore’s air quality index was recorded at 440 and the Indian capital New Delhi came second with an air pollution index of 334.

Sukkur was the most polluted city in the country with 565 air particulate meters and Sheikhupura was the third most polluted city in the country with 483.

On the other hand, the smog standard operating procedures (SOPs) have also been relaxed by the Punjab government.

Sukkur: A major tertiary care centre providing state of the art medical treatment facilities built by Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation(SIUT ) will be formally inaugurated in Sukkur on August 08  2023.

Spread over 27 acres area of land near Sukkur bypass, the complex is built at a total cost of over 6 billion which will cater the ever increasing medical needs of vast rural and remote parts of the province. Population residing in Larkana, Nawabshah and adjoining areas are already benefitting from the expansion plan.

A decade ago, SIUT established Chhablani Medical Center in Sukkur with the help of the Sindh Government. The new medical complex is another step forwards to the concept of government and community partnership and extending medical needs at the door step of the population. Syed Khurshid Shah, MNA, played a vital role in building the hospital.

On completion of the first phase, the complex is now equipped with 170 beds, 70 dialysis machines.

In the next three months, besides the addition of other state of the art treatment facilities in the field of Urology, Nephrology and Liver, and a special cancer unit equipped with (PET CT and Cyclotron) will provide timely diagnosis and treatment.

SUKKUR: Provincial Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah inaugurated 11 state-of-the-art Rescue 1122 ambulances in Sukkur which will be operated by Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services (SIEHS). Out of these two ambulances have been donated by China Aid specifically for CPEC route.

Sukkur is the ninth district to get Rescue 1122 ambulances after Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Larkana, Qamber, Shahdadkot, Badin, which are being operated under the guidance & funding of Health Department, Government of Sindh.

Out of these eleven ambulances, four will be Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), three will be Advance Life Support (ALS) & four will be Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances.

These ambulances are outfitted with life-saving drugs, medical equipment, and trained paramedics, and they will serve the region 24 hours a day, seven days a week to transport critical patients from their homes to hospital, hospital to hospital or from any accident location to hospitals.

The SIEHS Rescue 1122 ambulances’ command and control operations are supported by an ACE certified call center (Accredited Center of Excellence) system with a robust IT infrastructure.

This expansion of the emergency ambulances will not only provide quality pre-hospital emergency services to those in need in the district of Sukkur but also employment opportunities to technically trained residents of Sukkur district, ensuring improved quality of life.

Sukkur residents could access this service by dialing 1122 from any cellphone or landline.
