LAHORE: The Pakistan Meteorological Department(PMD) has predicted rainfall in most districts of Punjab from March 25 to 27.

According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), rains are expected in most districts of the province from March 25 to 27.

The rains are likely in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Mandi Bahauddin, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh.

President, PM condole as LPG bowser explosion kills five in Multan

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condoled over the death of five people as an LPG bowser exploded in Multan which also left several others injured.

In their separately issued statements, the president and the prime minister conveyed their condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.

They prayed to Allah Almighty for peace for the departed souls, strength for the grieved families to bear the loss, and for the recovery of those injured in the incident.

Six killed, 31 injured in Gas tanker explosion in Multan

MULTAN: At least six people were killed and 31 injured as a gas filled tankers exploded Industrial Estate area of Multan.

According to rescue officials, an explosion in an LPG bowser started a fire and the fragments of the bowser fell on the nearby population.

Rescue officials said that after several hours of struggle, the fire was extinguished, more than 10 vehicles took part in extinguishing the fire and foam was also used.

City Police Officer (CPO) Multan Sadiq Ali said that several houses were destroyed and animals were burnt to death in the gas bower explosion.

He said that gas is being released from the LPG bowser and the area has been evacuated. He confirmed that six people were killed and 31 injured in the bowser explosion while the condition of 13 injured is critical.

The police said that among the dead are three women and two men, including a girl.

On the other hand, the District Emergency Officer said that emergency has been declared Nishtar Hospital, search operation is going on in the neighboring villages.

FIA arrests NHA official involved in fraud

MULTAN: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Composite Circle Multan arrested a National Highway Authority (NHA) employee involved in fraud and forgery.

According to FIA officials, Muhammad Qamar Shahbaz Saif a paramedical staff member in NHA allegedly had extorted Rs.600,000 from a complainant under the false promise of securing a job in the Anti-Narcotics Force(ANF).

He also provided the complainant with a fake appointment letter to further his deception.

The team raided and arrested the accused while further investigation was underway.

LAHORE: The Lahore has been ranked the most polluted cities in the world with air quality index(AQI) 275 here on Monday.

The air quality of Lahore has not improved so far. The Lahore has emerged as the most polluted city in the world, with air quality levels described as hazardous as thick smog continues to envelop large parts of Pakistan.

This environmental crisis has severely impacted daily life in the country, with residents facing heightened health risks from prolonged exposure to toxic air conditions.

Karachi’s air is extremely hazardous to health and city ranks third among the most polluted cities in the world. According to experts, an index of 151 to 200 is harmful and 201 to 300 is extremely harmful to health.

Schools in Multan and Lahore divisions reopened

LAHORE: Punjab government has reopened educational institutes in Lahore and Multan divisions after reduction in smog in different cities of province.

According to the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with the change in the direction of the eastern winds, there was a reduction in smog in different cities of Punjab.

Multan is the most polluted city in the country with an air quality index of 329, followed by Lahore with an air quality index of 291.

Schools in Lahore and Multan divisions will open from today after reduction in smog, while teaching activities have been resumed in other districts as well.

On the other hand, anti-smog grand operation is going on in Punjab and according to provincial minister Maryam Aurangzeb, dozens of kilns, industrial units were demolished, dozens of factories and factories were sealed in 4 days.

LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed health emergency in Lahore and Multan due to the worsening smog situation.

Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said in a press conference that due to the worsening smog situation, Punjab government has declared health emergency in Lahore and Multan. She said there will be a complete lockdown in Lahore and Multan on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. She further said government has also imposed ban on construction in Multan and Lahore from Saturday to next Sunday.

She said that the health desk has canceled the staff holidays in hospitals and necessary instruction has been to the departments to provide medicines while the citizens should not go out on bikes except in emergency and use masks.

The senior minister added that she will see the data by Wednesday and smog has turned into a health crisis. She said the Punjab government is taking all possible measures to prevent smog and has given a 10-year policy to prevent smog.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that various departments of the government are working day and night to prevent smog and kilns that do not follow zigzag technology are being demolished, but controlling smog is a long-term process. She said three 3-month emergency measures are being taken to control this.

Punjab imposes ban on outdoor activities from Nov 11 to 17

LAHORE: Punjab Government has imposed ban on outdoor activities in four division of province from November 11 to November 17 due to the heavy smog.

According to the notification issued by the Punjab government, there will be a ban on outdoor activities in Lahore from November 11 to November 17. The ban will be applied to the districts of Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.

All kinds of outdoor sports, exhibitions and events will be banned during the relevant dates, outdoor dining of restaurants will also be banned, but religious gatherings will be exempted.

The notification states that shops, markets and shopping malls will close at 8 pm, but medical stores, laboratories, petrol pumps and grocery stores will be exempted. Only the grocery and medical sections of major department stores will remain open.

According to the notification, action will be taken under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act for violation, and punishment will be given under Section 188 for violation of the orders.

On the other hand, the Punjab government entrusted the responsibility of monitoring vehicles emitting smoke to the Punjab Safe City Authority.

The Secretary Transport and Mass Transit Punjab said that vehicles emitting smoke will be monitored with Safe City cameras, in this way every type of vehicle that pollutes the environment will be brought under the law.

Multan tops air pollution ranking

LAHORE: Multan city also ranked first among the most polluted cities in Pakistan at night, with the Air Quality Index(AQI) exceeding 1900.

In the Air Quality Index, Lahore is the second most polluted city in Pakistan, while many cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also badly affected by smog and fog.

Meanwhile, due to fog and smog, Motorway M1 from Charsadda to Akbarpura, Motorway M2 from Lahore to Kot Sarwar, Motorway M3 from Samundari to Darkhana and M4 from Pindi Bhatian to Abdul Hakeem have been closed for all kind traffic.

Motorway M5 from Shershah to Jhangara and Lahore-Sialkot Motorway has also closed for traffic.

It should be noted that in order to deal with the problem of smog in different cities of Punjab, the Lahore High Court had ordered the closure of markets across Punjab at 8 pm, while all markets across Punjab will remain closed on Sundays as well.

In 18 districts of smog-affected 4th division, all recreational facilities, including sports grounds, museums and zoos, will also remain closed till November 17.

Meanwhile, Walled City of Lahore Authority has also suspended all tourism and entertainment programs and events in the city till November 17.

Gilani calls for expediting uplift work in south Punjab

MULTAN: Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani stressed the imperative need to accelerate development work in South Punjab.

He said this while during a meeting with Additional Chief Secretary Fuad Hashim Rabbani at Circuit House. The meeting was also attended by Member of the National Assembly Syed Ali Musa Gillani and former MPA Syed Mujtaba Gillani.

Gilani stressed that thorough oversight of ongoing projects was essential to ensure timely completion.

“Winning public confidence hinges on efficient public service delivery and prompt resolution of pressing issues”, Gilani maintained.

The Chairman Senate further stated the need for permanent appointments in key institutions, urging that recommendations be forwarded to the Punjab Government.

Gillani also directed enhanced security arrangements at the region’s revered shrines, particularly Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh.

He wished the removal of encroachments around the historic site to facilitate road expansion and improve traffic management.

Reflecting on his tenure as Prime Minister, he recalled that plazas were constructed in Shaheen Market and Ghanta Ghar to relocate traders displaced by anti-encroachment measures.

However, he added that the plan had not been fully implemented.

The Chairman Senate also highlighted his role in securing a $10 million grant from the Italian government for the preservation and restoration of Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh and its ancient walls.

He stated the delays in utilizing these funds and suggested for the project’s swift completion.

During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Fuad Hashim Rabbani provided a comprehensive briefing on ongoing projects and outlined new initiatives in South Punjab, assuring the Chairman Senate of steady progress.

On the other hand, Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Palestine, Yemen, and Lebanon, urging the United Nations to take immediate notice of the atrocities committed against civilians and take action to end its aggression.

Gilani also called on the Islamic nations to break their silence and speak out against Israeli aggression.

The Senate chairman, in a statement, expressed deep sorrow over the brutal violence and the loss of innocent lives.

7-years old domestic worker reportedly raped in Multan

MULTAN: A seven-year old girl working as domestic worker in n Shah Rukn-e-Alam Colony Multan was reportedly sexually assaulted.

According to the administration of Nishtar Hospital, the affected girl was brought to the hospital last night, the condition of the girl was not stable, the police was immediately informed.

The mother of the victim girl told the police in her statement that she had sent her daughter to work at the woman’s house last month, the owner of the house called her two days ago and handed her over to her.

She further said that the girl was scared and was not even speaking, it seems that the girl was allegedly  raped as the condition of the girl was not good. The family brought girl in Nishtar Hospital.

The local Police said that a case has been registered against the woman on the request of the victim’s mother, further action will be taken after receiving the medical report.

9 killed in Multan as building collapses after cylinder blast

MULTAN: At least 9 people were killed when a 3-storey residential building collapsed in Multan city after cylinder blast.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, a residential building in Mohalla Jawadian area of ​​Multan’s inner city collapsed at 4 am due to its dilapidated condition.
