Rs740 billion plan approved for reforms in Punjab’s education sectors

On Saturday, Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar has approved an Rs740 billion program for reforms in the education sectors of the province.

According to the details, the provincial schools’ department had sent a summary to Buzdar for approving Rs740 billion to bring improvements in the schools. CM Punjab approved the plan and asked the department to lay it before the cabinet to get the funds.

“The mega reforms project will be completed in three years,” the department detailed.

The schools’ department shared the division of funds on different facilities. Rs 18 billion would be spent on improving the condition of classrooms, Rs 6 billion for the provision of computer labs, Rs 10 billion for furniture, Rs 1.5 billion for science labs, and Rs 65 billion for libraries and playgrounds.

Earlier, Shafqat Mahmood took to Twitter on December 20, 2020, and announced that the education ministry had started the process of formulating a “formal education policy.”

“While we have taken a number of initiatives including single national curriculum, A formal Education policy for the country is necessary,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

“So on my direction, a process has been started by the Ministry of Education which includes widespread consultation. All suggestions welcome.”
