South Punjab’s development top priority of PPP, says Gilani

MULTAN: Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has urged the need for the upcoming budget 2024-24 to be people-friendly.

He stated that economic prosperity was linked to political stability in the country. “Without economic stability, the condition of the people cannot be improved”, he remarked. He stressed the need to bring all stakeholders together to resolve national issues.

The Acting President expressed these remarks while addressing a gathering of Parliamentarians, Members of the Provincial Assembly, and other prominent political figures from Multan.

The Acting President pledged to engage with the federal and provincial governments to complete developmental projects in Multan, including the issuance of notification for Multan as Big City and the completion of the under-construction ring road project.

Acting President reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing public service.

He also highlighted the widespread benefits of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in Southern Punjab and also advocated for its expansion.

He added that discussions had already begun with the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif  to provide facilities for education, health, and transportation in Southern Punjab.

Acting President Gilani visits Mazar e Quaid

KARACH: Acting President and Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to pay homage to the Father of the Nation on arrival here Wednesday.

The Acting President laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha. He also recorded his impressions in the Visitors’ Book placed at the mausoleum.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was also present during the visit of Acting President at the Mazar e Quaid.

Speaking to the media, the Acting President said Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a true and genuine leader of the Sub Continent and our youth should be aware of the fact that he (Quaid) was the true leader and he had created Pakistan therefore we should not be running after a ‘black cat in a dark room’.

Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said that his father was an associate of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and when Quaid visited Lahore in 1940 and he was asked why he did not come to Multan, he had said that Gilani was there to represent me therefore no need of my visit to Multan. Gilani said Quaid did not visited Multan but Mohtrama Fatima Jinnah had visited our Dargah there.

He said that for the first time he visited the basement of the Mazar of Quaid Azam and offered Fateha at at the Mazars of Quaid e Azam, Nawab Liaquat Ali Khan, Mohtrama Fatima Jinnah, Noorul Amin and all our forefathers buried here. Our country has confronted with so many problems but we are lucky enough that 65% youth consisting the total population of Pakistan, he said and believed that youth will play important role and they would be the future leaders.

He also mentioned the name of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who is also young chairman of Pakistan People’s party. Acting President said though his party is not part of the government but we were extending our full support to the government for resolution of problems bring faced by the country.

Gilani visits Iranian embassy for condolence

ISLAMABAD: Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani paid a condolatory visit to the Iranian embassy here wherein he said that with the death of Iranian President Dr Ebrahim Raisi, the whole Islamic Ummah had lost a great leader.

The acting president expressed deep grief on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan on the sad demise of Dr Raisi, the Iranian foreign minister and others in the helicopter accident, saying that the whole nation shared the grief of the Iranian brothers and sisters.

Talking to the Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam, Acting President Gilani said that Pakistan and Iran enjoyed excellent relations based on historical, cultural, and literary linkages.

He remarked that both countries needed to promote people-to-people contacts and parliamentary exchanges to bring the two brotherly countries further closer.

Gilani visits Iranian embassy for condolence; says Islamic Ummah lost a great leader He highlighted that President Raisi was a noble soul, a scholar and a great friend of Pakistan.

The Iranian ambassador said that Pakistan and Iran enjoyed excellent relations and promotion of ties with Pakistan was a cornerstone of Iran’s foreign policy.

He informed that the Supreme Leader of Iran placed special emphasis on promoting relations with Pakistan, saying that the recent visit of the late President Raisi took place in this context.

The ambassador expressed gratitude to the people and government of Pakistan for their messages and sentiments sharing the grief of the Iranian people.

The acting president also penned condolatory remarks in the visitor’s book at the Iranian embassy.

Later, talking to the media, Gilani said that the whole Muslim world shared the grief of the Iranian people.

Gilani recalled his representation of Pakistan in the funeral prayer of Imam Khomeini, his frequent travels to Iran and his interaction with the country’s leadership.

Gilani calls for further consolidating bilateral ties with Malaysia

ISLAMABAD: Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani called for further consolidating bilateral ties with Malaysia for the mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries. Pakistan and Malaysia, he said, enjoyed cordial cooperation at all international fora, which needed to be further strengthened.

The Acting President expressed these views while talking to the Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy, Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman bin Ayob, who along with his delegation called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the Acting President urged the need to further explore avenues of cooperation in maritime sectors for the mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries.

He expressed the hope that training and exchange programmes between the two navies would further cement naval cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia.

The Acting President expressed satisfaction over the regular conduct of bilateral naval exercises and training collaboration between Pakistan and Malaysia. He appreciated the Royal Malaysian Navy for regular participation in AMAN exercises and emphasised the need for continuity of the same in future.

He stated that Pakistan was looking forward to the continued support of Malaysia for Pakistan’s bid to become the Full Dialogue Partner of ASEAN.

Earlier, the Acting President conferred the award of Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) upon Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman bin Ayob during a special investiture ceremony.

Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman bin Ayob is a close friend of Pakistan and has played a prominent role in promoting cooperation between the Royal Malaysian Navy and the Pakistan Navy.

The award was conferred upon him in recognition of his professional achievements and endeavours for strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two navies.

The Acting President congratulated the Malaysian Naval Chief on receiving the award of Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) and appreciated his contributions towards increasing naval cooperation between the two countries.
