CPJ Justice Yahya Afridi visits SOS village Peshawar

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CPJ), Justice Yahya Afridi, visited SOS village in Hayatabad Peshawar, an institution which his late father Umer Khan Afridi patronized all his life.

The Chief Justice was accompanied by his wife.

The CJP was briefed by the Director of the Village  Kokab Batool Qureshi.

The SOS Peshawar is a Charity Organization funded through private donations. It currently houses around 121 children from various age groups up to 25-26 years.

The SOS Peshawar provides boarding facilities to orphans and abandoned children. In addition to providing quality education as well as technical skills, it also arranges marriages of children.

The Chief Justice and the madam interacted with the kids and took a keen interest in their routine activities.

They both shared lunch with the kids and encouraged them in their curricular and extra-curricular activities. He mentored them to excel in their studies to become useful for themselves as well as for society.

He also lauded the role of the Director of the SOS and appreciated her keen interest in maintaining discipline on the campus as well as high standards of education and upkeep of the institution.

Khyber Pass Economic Corridor project begins with support of WB

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pass Economic Corridor (KPEC) project began to be implemented at a cost of $460 million in collaboration with the World Bank(WB).

The project includes the establishment of a 4 -way expressway and industrial zone from Peshawar to Torkham border. The Khyber Pass Economic Corridor, which connects the entire region through communication transit, is a joint venture of the federal and provincial government.

The Khyber Pass Economic Corridor project was designed in 2024 and its construction work has begun. The World Financial Organization for the plan has approved a $460 million loan.

The project consists of two parts. The first is the construction of the communication system, the roads, while the second part includes industrial zones and its sub -development projects.

$385 million has been allocated for the construction of roads, while $75 million has been allocated for the establishment of an industrial zone.

Deputy Commissioner of Khyber District Bilal Shahid Rao said that a 47 km long four -way expressway is being constructed from Peshawar to Torkham border while the construction of the 55 km long Peshawar Southern Bypass is also part of the project.

The deputy commissioner added that the expressway will be linked to Peshawar Southern Bypass and GT Road.

The second part of the Khyber Pass Economic Corridor project is the establishment of an industrial zone. For which land has been allocated in Jamrud Shaks and Bara and the establishment of an industrial zone is the responsibility of the provincial government and $75 million has been allocated for this.

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police issued show-cause notices and warning letters police officials of Shangla and Peshawar over using social media.

District Police Officer (DPO) Shangla has issued show cause notices to 63 policemen using social media.

According to sources, notices have been issued over violation of the orders of the officers and using social media accounts.

According to police sources, inspectors, sub-inspectors and other officials including ASI level officers are among the violators of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police’s social media policy.

Similarly, 20 police personnel have been asked to answer on the use of social media in Peshawar.

Authorities have issued orders to delete social media accounts within 3 days for violating the police social media policy.

The notice states that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is a disciplinary force and violation of social media policy is a punishable offence.

The show cause notice states that the Central Police Office had banned the use of social media by police officers and personnel, despite the ban, the officers and officers being added to social media groups or not operating their accounts is against the police’s social media policy.

KP confirms third Monkeypox Case

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has confirmed its third case of the Monkeypox virus after a 51-year-old man, returning to Pakistan from abroad, tested positive.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, during the screening at the Bacha Khan Airport in Peshawar yesterday, symptoms of monkeypox were found in the two passengers, after which the two persons were isolated by the Border Health Services staff.

The spokesman said that the samples of the two persons were sent to Peshawar Reference Public Laboratory, Khyber Medical University, and one of them has tested positive.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, the citizen who tested positive for monkeypox is a resident of Peshawar, the travel history of the affected person is from Gulf countries, while the contact tracing of the affected person is being screened.

The spokesman said that after the recent emergency, the number of m-pox cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased to 3.

In this regard, Health Coordinator Dr. Mukhtar said that the government of Pakistan has made an effective strategy to protect the public from monkeypox, the staff of border health services are working at all airports.

‘Drug free Peshawar’ campaign to begin from August

PESHAWAR: The 3rd phase of the drug-free Peshawar campaign is going to start from the first week of August under the leadership of Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud.

In this regard, a meeting was held which was attended by  Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Captain Retired Sarmad Salim, District Officer Social Welfare Noor Muhammad, Excise Department, Anti-Narcotics Department and administrators of private rehabilitation centers.

The meeting was informed that a formal strategy has been decided and necessary instructions have been issued to the district administration Peshawar and the social welfare department.

Under the operation strategy, more than 2,000 drug addicts on the streets of Peshawar will be taken into custody and transferred to rehabilitation centers so that the city can be completely free from drug addicts.

For this purpose,  capacity has been created in private rehabilitation centers also.

During the operation an operation will be conducted against the professional beggars and according to the information obtained from various sources, they will be taken into custody and handed over to the Social Welfare Department to train them in various skills and make them useful citizens of the society.

The young delinquent children will be transferred to the welfare institution Zamang Kor, where free accommodation, education and training have been arranged for them.

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia has relaxed visa requirements for Pakistani tourists with immediate effect.

Under the new conditions issued by Saudi Arabia, Pakistani tourists can now submit a bank statement containing $750 monthly credit or equivalent amount to obtain a Saudi visit visa.

The number of Pakistanis visiting Saudi Arabia increased by 43 percent last year and 2.7 million Pakistani tourists are expected to visit Saudi Arabia in 2024.

In order to facilitate the increasing number of tourists, Tasheer offices have been established in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan, where various services are provided to those who wish to visit Saudi Arabia to obtain a visa.

Saudi Arabia has also introduced a transit visa for Pakistanis, which is available for passengers arriving in Saudi Arabia through specific airlines, through this visa, tourists will be able to visit Saudi Arabia for up to 96 hours.

In addition, a visa on arrival is available for travelers who hold a UK, US or Schengen visa.

PESHAWAR: At least 8 members of a family were in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) due to a dispute over money.

The shooting incident took place in Baddber area of ​​Peshawar, where armed men opened fire over a money dispute, in which 4 women and 4 children were killed while 2 people were injured.

The FIA has arrested 6 suspects, including three employees of Lady Reading Hospital involved in the sale of medicines. The FIA has started an investigation into the theft and sale of government hospital life-saving drugs.
