PESHAWAR: At least two police officers were martyred in terrorists attack on Fateh Khel checkpost Bannu District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to police, two officials were killed in a terrorist attack on Fateh Khel checkpost while the attackers managed to escape after the operation.

District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu said terrorists attacked Fateh Khel Chowk for the second time in two days.

Couple of days ago, the Fateh Khel police post was attacked by the terrorists overnight, which was foiled by the police in a timely retaliation. In response to the police, the attackers managed to escape.

Section 144 imposed in federal capital Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad authorities have enforced Section 144 across the federal capital to ensure law and order in the city, following the directives of the Islamabad High Court on Saturday.

Police officials have assured that all necessary measures will be taken to implement Section 144 effectively.

Citizens are urged to refrain from participating in any illegal activities, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the law for collective safety, he said.

Resources are being utilized to safeguard the lives, properties, and assets of residents, with police actively present to maintain law and order in the city, he added.

Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those found violating the law to uphold peace and security in Islamabad.

Security beefed up around Karachi airport

KARACHI: Security has been further tightened around the Karachi International Airport due to the security concerns which has caused grave inconvenience for visitors and local residents.

According to the police officials, the security around the airport has been increased due to security concerns, under which the road from Model Colony to Jinnah Terminal has been closed for traffic.

The police officials have been deputed at Star Gate to Jinnah Terminal and the road from Pehlwan Goth to the airport.

Traffic is being diverted from Model Colony to Shahrah e Faisal and due to the closure of the road leading to Jinnah Terminal, the flow of traffic on Model Colony Road is affected.

Airline staff, passengers and other employees are facing difficulties in reaching the airport due to road closures  while the surrounding roads are jammed with traffic.

It should be noted that earlier, new rules and conditions were imposed for those coming to see off or receive passengers at the Karachi airport, according to which 4 citizens will be able to go to the airport with one passenger, while in the absence of a copy of the ticket the visitors will not be allowed to enter the airport.

Show-cause notices served to 83 cops for using social media

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police issued show-cause notices and warning letters police officials of Shangla and Peshawar over using social media.

District Police Officer (DPO) Shangla has issued show cause notices to 63 policemen using social media.

According to sources, notices have been issued over violation of the orders of the officers and using social media accounts.

According to police sources, inspectors, sub-inspectors and other officials including ASI level officers are among the violators of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police’s social media policy.

Similarly, 20 police personnel have been asked to answer on the use of social media in Peshawar.

Authorities have issued orders to delete social media accounts within 3 days for violating the police social media policy.

The notice states that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is a disciplinary force and violation of social media policy is a punishable offence.

The show cause notice states that the Central Police Office had banned the use of social media by police officers and personnel, despite the ban, the officers and officers being added to social media groups or not operating their accounts is against the police’s social media policy.

DNA training session for Police officials ended at SFDL

KARACHI: A two-day DNA training session for police officials was concluded at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.

Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL) at the ICCBS, University of Karachi, organized the training session on August 9 to 10, in which 50 police officials, including 25  from Crime Scene Unit and 25 from the Police Investigation Department, participated. The officials were given hands-on training at the mock crime scenes.

Earlier, in the opening session, ICCBS Acting Director Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaheen welcomed the participants on behalf of Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, and COMSTECH Coordinator General.

Addressing the session, she discussed the technological advancement in the field of forensic DNA analysis. She said that this session was a part of the training program designed for various stakeholders separately, catering to their official needs.

SFDL In-charge and Project Director Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, in the opening session, said that the discovery of deoxyribonucleic acid – more commonly known as DNA – was considered one of the most important discoveries of the 20th century.

Forensic DNA is an important modern-age tool which had gained much attention recently in most criminal and civil matters, he said, adding that It’s not only been used to solve countless crimes but exonerated people wrongly convicted, as well as solved several cold cases.

Training of the police officials is very important for proper collection of evidence which will help the dispensation of justice in its true spirit, he observed.

He also described the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility for forensic DNA analysis, which is developed according to international standards containing qualified and trained staff and highly advanced technology.

The participants of the training session also paid a visit to Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory.
