Monsoon rains in Pakistan surge by more than 50% from July to September

PESHAWAR: At least 24 people killed and 17 others were injured due to rains and floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last 3 days.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) report said, 150 houses were damaged due to rains and floods in the province.

According to PDMA, 24 people died and 17 were injured due to rains and floods during three days, while small and big machinery is being used to open the highways closed by rain.

The PDMA said that a new series of monsoon rains will begin in the province from today, which is likely to continue till August 6.

According to PDMA, landslides in upper districts and floods in rivers, urban flooding in cities are also feared.

PDMA has issued an alert to all district administrations in view of the weather situation, in which the administration has been directed to have machinery available to deal with untoward incidents.

Multan Breaks 48-Year Rainfall Record with 145 mm Heavy Rain

ISLAMABAD:  The National Disaster Management Authority(NDMA) has indicated the possibility of more rains and warned for urban flooding in monsoon.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the current monsoon system is likely to affect Sindh within 24 hours. This system may affect Kashmore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Umarkot, Badin, Mithi and Tharparkar.

NDMA said that rains may cause local urban flooding, moderate flooding in rivers, residents of low-lying areas should be prepared to deal with the possible flood situation, residents of two or four areas should follow the instructions of local authorities. The people should download ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for timely alerts.

On the other hand, a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change was held under the chairmanship of Senator Sherry Rehman, in which Chairman NDMA while briefing the committee said that the temperature in June and July was higher than before, due to global warming every Year temperature is increasing.

According to Chairman NDMA, there is a severe pressure in the Arabian Sea, there is a possibility of more rains in the monsoon due to the pressure of the air, the spell of the monsoon is likely to enter Pakistan from India. He predicted that there is possibility of heavy rain in some places in first week of July.

he chairman further said that there is a forecast of rains in the second and third week of July, rains are likely in all four provinces in July and August. The rainy weather is likely to hit Punjab in the second and third weeks of July while there are chances of rains in Sindh in the second and fourth weeks of July.

PDMA alerts for heat wave, stormy rains in Punjab

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert for heat waves, rains, and storms in the province this week.

According to the spokesperson of PDMA Punjab, there is a possibility of a 3 to 5-degree Celsius rise in temperature during the daytime of May 8 to 10.

During this time, dusty winds and thundershowers may occur in most districts of Punjab, while there is a possibility of stormy rain in South Punjab on May 10-11.

PDMA said that district administrations across Punjab have been informed about this weather situation.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, standing crops are also feared to be damaged by the storm.

He has also said that people will have to be careful due to the increase in the intensity of heat and cold.

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a report on the loss of life and property due to rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the PDMA report, 17 people have died and 23 people have been injured in the accidents so far, while the highest loss of life and property in the rains occurred in Bajaur district.

According to PDMA, 148 cattle also died due to rains in different districts, apart from this, a total of 116 houses were damaged due to lightning.

The PDMA, district administration, and relief teams are engaged in relief activities while all roads closed due to rains have been restored for traffic.

PESHAWAR: At least 21 people were killed and 32 others injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to continuous rains for 4 days.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority(PDMA) has released a report on the damage caused by rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the report, 21 people were killed and 32 injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the continuous rains for 4 days, while 9 children and 3 women are also among the dead.

Meanwhile,  330 incidents of walls and roofs falling in different districts took place, 53 houses were completely damaged and 277 houses were partially damaged.

According to PDMA, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, relief checks are being given to the rain victims and relief materials have also been provided.

According to PDMA, the relief items include 200 tents, 100 kitchen sets, 200 blankets, while 100 mats, 200 mosquito nets and 200 mattresses have been given to the victims, and other daily life items have also been given to the victims.

Five killed, eight others injured in rain related incidents in KP

PESHAWAR: As many as five persons were killed and eight were reported injured due to rains for the last 24 hours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Director General (DG) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said four houses were reported partially damaged. Four children and woman died while two women, two children and a man reported injured.

Apart from humans, reports about perishing of livestock has also been received.

The Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has expressed grief and directed to provide relief and compensation cheques to the affected families.

He also directed for opening of closed road and provide facilities to people stuck in rains and landslides. The Chief Minister also directed PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations to be alert and facilitate people.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced relief money for the families of those who died and the injured in the accidents caused by rain and snow.

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced giving one million each to the families of the deceased, 300,000 to the seriously injured, and 50,000 to the minor injured.

Director General PDMA Muhammad Qaiser Khan said that relief operations are ongoing in the affected districts, measures are being taken to open roads blocked by snowfall and landslides.

Meanwhile, six tourists who were surrounded by heavy snowfall in Malam Jabba have been rescued, the district administration and rescue 1122 have rescued the tourists and moved them to a safe place.

At present PDMA, district administration and all concerned institutions are on alert, PDMA had issued a letter on February 25 to the district administration of all districts for pre-emptive measures.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Meteorologist at Pakistan Meteorological Department Dr Sardar Sarfaraz said that a fresh spell of rain, hailstorms and snow is expected across the country from Feb 25 where Karachi city and Balochistan province  will also witness light showers along with thunderstorms.

He said that good rains, besides snowfall in the northern areas, are expected in the country from the next week under the influence of westerly waves.

The chilly embrace of winter tightened its hold on various parts of the country on Monday, as rain showers blanketed regions including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir, he added.

“We are expecting some good rains from Feb 25, which will continue till March or may even extend to April under the influence of westerly waves”, adding that snowfall on hills in the northern areas is also expected during this period, which would end fog and smog in the country,” he added.

He said under this rain spell started on Sunday many parts of the country would witness partly cloudy skies along with drizzles and snow till Wednesday.
