Bilawal suggests amendment in NAB law for accountability of judges

Bilawal suggests
  • He said in connection with the Golden Jubilee of constitution.
  • Foreign Minister said  Imran Khan has ruined every institution.
  • Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said PPP would oppose the sacred cow laws.

KARACHI:  Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced to introduce an amendment to bring the judges under the purview of to NAB accountability, saying that a dual system cannot run in the country. Different laws for common man and sacred cows won’t work as it could not be acceptable that if there is a Prime Minister from Larkana then hang him and if the Prime Minister is from Zaman Park the courts will wait for whole day to offer him bail.

Addressing a Seminar organized by PPP Karachi Division in connection with the Golden Jubilee of the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan, the PPP Chairman said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is the founder of the 1973 Constitution, for which we are proud of. This Constitution of 1973 gives every citizen to protect and guarantee their rights.

He further said that if Pakistan is a federal country, this Constitution gives us a federal system. Pakistan is an Islamic country, then our Constitution is an Islamic constitution, and Pakistan is a country of democracy then our constitution is a democratic constitution.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that since the Constitution of Pakistan was passed, constant attacks were mounted against it, because some forces don’t tolerate rights to the people. Its defacing at the hands of dictators General Zia and General Musharraf is still felt by the nation.

The PPP Chairman said that the tenure from 2008 to 2013 was a period of hope, as before that there was a lot of polarization in the country. During this period, the political parties came to the conclusion that as long as we continue to fight, the Constitution and democracy will always be in danger and the country will not progress. He further said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had forgotten the political victimisations of her then opponents and pledged that we would work on Charter of Democracy (CoD).

Calling the progress made as a result of harmony among the political parties after the CoD, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that we focussed on the people of Pakistan, we passed the 18th Amendment, Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) was initiated, Northern Areas made Gilgit –Baltistan and NWFP Province was renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the puppet was brought to power because it was not just a conspiracy against the system, but a conspiracy against the Constitution under the narrative that everything has gone to the provinces.

He said that Imran Khan has ruined every institution. Politics has been polarised to such an extent that we cannot talk to each other.

The PPP Chairman said that another law is being floated that if anyone speaks against the army or the judiciary, he will be punished.

OIC extends support to Kashmiris’ right to self determination

OIC supports Kashmiris

NEW YORK: Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Thursday renewed unwavering solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and expressed full support for their inalienable right to self-determination by the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the OIC, and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari chaired the Annual Coordination Meeting (ACM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers at the United Nations Headquarters here on the sidelines of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly.

OIC member states commended Pakistan for its active and forceful advocacy of all matters of interest to the Islamic Ummah and its prominent role within the OIC. The meeting also expressed full solidarity and sympathy with the government and people of Pakistan affected by the recent climate-induced devastating floods.

In his address, the Foreign Minister emphasized that Pakistan, as a founding member of the OIC, attached utmost importance to the Organization as the sole and most prominent voice of the Muslim Ummah.

He reviewed the wide range of issues confronting the Muslim Ummah, including rising Islamophobia, the situation in Palestine, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir, Afghanistan, the COVID-19 pandemic, the food, fuel, and finance crises, and the existential threat posed by climate change.

The Foreign Minister expressed special appreciation for the OIC’s consistent and historic support for the Kashmir cause.

OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in the capacity as chair of the OIC Summit also addressed the meeting.

During the coordination meeting, the OIC Member states exchanged views on a range of issues on the agenda of the 77th UNGA session. They also reviewed follow-up action on the resolutions and decisions of the OIC.

The meeting reaffirmed the centrality of the question of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif for the Muslim Ummah, reaffirming its principled and continued all- level support to the Palestinian people to regain their inalienable legitimate national rights, including their right to self-determination, and the independence of the State of Palestine along the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The meeting also reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement of the international community with Afghanistan, especially in supporting the humanitarian and development needs of the Afghan people.

Keeping in view the global challenges and noting that a vast majority of international conflicts and disputes involve OIC member states, the Foreign Minister underlined the importance of establishing an effective peace and security architecture within the OIC by the authority conferred by Article 10 (e) of the Charter.

He encouraged his counterparts to share their perspective on strengthening and fully activating the OIC Peace and Security architecture to enable the OIC to contribute to and promote durable solutions to the problems faced by the Muslim world.

The meeting welcomed the adoption of the landmark UN General Assembly resolution proclaiming 15 March as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia and agreed to urge, as a follow-up of the resolution, the UN Secretary-General to formulate an action plan, in coordination with the OIC countries, to halt and reverse Islamophobia.

The ministers also exchanged views on a series of global shocks: the Covid-19 pandemic, rising commodity prices, climate change, and a contracting world economy compounded by the ongoing conflict in Europe.

The Ministers expressed concern that these shocks have decelerated progress toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the developing world and, as a result, intensified inequality within and among States, including in the Islamic countries.

NEW YORK: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, has invited a high-ranking Meta official to build a local office to enhance contact between local authorities and the social media giant.

Last year, Facebook rebranded itself to Meta to create the “metaverse,” a shared virtual world that the firm believes will be the replacement for mobile internet.

On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) 77th session, where he is part of the Pakistan mission, the foreign minister met Meta’s Global Affairs President Nick Clegg.

When discussing the potential available in Pakistan, the foreign minister stated that the country has a tech-savvy youthful population (64% under the age of 30), high teledensity, massive digitization of the economy, and a business-friendly regulatory regime.

“Pakistan’s IT sector has experienced rapid growth in recent years, creating new prospects for platforms like Meta to extend their operations in Pakistan,” the foreign minister told a representative of the social media business.

Clegg stated that Meta’s Pakistan team is exclusively made up of Pakistani experts. He informed the foreign minister of Meta’s ongoing connectivity and capacity-building initiatives in Pakistan.

Clegg confirmed Meta’s willingness in continuing to engage with Pakistan to seek ways to improve collaboration in the digital sector.

The government issued the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight, and Safeguards) Rules, 2021 in October of last year, forcing social media platforms to register with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). However, it has yet to bear fruit.

The foreign minister, in his meeting with President, Global Affairs at Meta Nick Clegg thanked the company for donating Rs.125 million for humanitarian assistance to Pakistan in the wake of the deadly floods.
