Unisame calls for Trade Diplomacy Cell

KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has suggested Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to form a Trade Diplomacy Cell (TDC) and adopt the prospective trade agreement between Pakistan and Kazakhstan as ideal and promising and adopt it as a role model for other Central Asian Republics (CARs) too, especially at a time when a three-pronged aggressive attack is required to gain as much benefit as possible, a statement said.

Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver said that each and every segment has to be given best consideration, be it textiles, leather, foodstuffs, surgical, sports, cutlery, engineering and electrical, as these are crucial times when all the segments need to add more earnings from exports.

“Secondly, we now have to look to the Central Asian states to meet our import requirements on reasonably deferred payments. These are times when we need help from our neighbours, friends and brotherly countries,” he added.

Pakistan will have to gear up for solid rebuilding in technology, engineering and items, which can lend support in food grains for fulfilling the requirements of grains and pulses, if needed, due to climatic changes.

“Besides, we also need to indulge in exchanges and barter trade and our ministries will need to work round-the-clock to export more and import only the essential items wisely and diligently. Even the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will need to be revisited to include the Central Asian Republics and get maximum results,” he remarked.

Extraordinary manoeuvres are required to achieve increased trade in exports and sufficient imports of the raw materials to achieve the targeted figures of exports and imports on deferred payment basis.

The Trade Diplomacy Cell could further project into a barter cell and enhance its activities, he added.
