APHC expresses concern over continued atrocities in IIOJK

IIOJK

ISLAMABAD: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed grave concern over the systematic atrocities during cordon and search operations, house raids, illegal detentions and attaching properties of Kashmiris at the hands of Indian forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Talking to Kashmir Media Service in Srinagar, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas rejected India’s ‘integral mantra’ about the internationally recognised disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said New Delhi has been using military might and black laws since 1947 to break the will of the people and suppress their freedom sentiments but have utterly failed in achieving its anti-Kashmir designs.

He said the freedom and peace-loving people of Kashmir have always shown their indignation and resistance against the atrocities and Indian illegal occupation of their motherland.

He said the steadfastness, patience and the persistent struggle for the sacred cause of freedom is the only option before the Kashmiris.

The spokesman said people rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute and the power and oppression will not resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute.

“It is our stance that Kashmir is a political problem and only political measures can settle the long-pending dispute,” it said.

He urged the international community, United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and European Union to take cognizance of atrocities by Indian forces in the occupied territory.

Pakistan demands reversal of India unilateral action in IIOJK

IIOJK

BANJUL (GAMBIA): The Contact Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Jammu and Kashmir met here Monday wherein Pakistan stressed that India should revoke all of its unilateral actions of August 5, 2019 in IIOJK and implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir dispute.

Held on the sidelines of the 15th Islamic Summit of the OIC here, the meeting reviewed the political and security environment in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) besides taking stock of the grim human rights situation in the occupied territory.

Chaired by the Assistant Secretary General (Political Affairs) of the OIC and the Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Jammu and Kashmir, Yousaf-Al-Dobeay, the meeting was attended by the member states of the Contact Group i.e. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Niger and Azerbaijan.

A delegation of the True Representatives of the Kashmiri People, and the senior officials of the OIC-Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission were also in attendance.

In his remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, who led the Pakistani delegation, urged the international community to take cognizance of the Indian leaders’ provocative statements and unwarranted claims about Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which constituted a serious threat to regional peace.

He stressed that India must release all the political prisoners, lift curbs on the outlawed political parties, revoke the illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019 and the subsequent steps aimed at demographic change and political engineering.

He briefed the Contact Group on India’s ongoing efforts to transform Kashmiris into a disempowered community in their own land.

He apprised the meeting that India was systematically denying the Kashmiri people their fundamental rights and freedoms.

He added that the Indian authorities had created an environment of fear and intimidation in the IIOJK to crush dissent.

The participating delegations from different member states emphasized the importance of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute on the OIC’s agenda, and expressed support for the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people for realization of their inalienable right to self-determination in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Ukraine war: Russian athletes cannot be allowed at Olympics, Zelensky says

Olympics
  • Ukraine has threatened to boycott the Paris 2024 Olympics.
  • Mr. Zelensky discussed the matter with French President Emmanuel Macron.
  • Mr. Zelensky said, there can be no neutrality in sports.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thinks that permitting Russia to compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris would amount to declaring that “horror is somehow acceptable”.

He stated that he had discussed the matter with French President Emmanuel Macron.

He stressed that Moscow should not be permitted to use the Olympics for propaganda purposes.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that Russian and Belarussian athletes would be able to compete as neutrals in the Olympics.

However, if Russian and Belarussian athletes are allowed to compete, Ukraine has threatened to boycott the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The IOC’s efforts “to bring Russian athletes back into the Olympic Games are attempts to teach the entire world that terror is somehow acceptable,” Mr. Zelensky stated in his nightly video message.

Russia must not be permitted to exploit the Olympics or any other sporting event to promote its aggression or state chauvinism, he added.

The IOC said this week that Russian and Belarusian athletes might compete as “neutral athletes”, noting that “no athlete should be banned from competing solely because of their passport”.

Mr. Zelensky, on the other hand, claims that there can be no neutrality in sports while his country’s players are dying on the battlefield.

He also drew parallels with the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, which were held during the Nazi regime.

“There was a major Olympic mistake,” he said. “The Olympic movement and terrorist states shouldn’t ever,  cross paths.”

The UK government has also denounced the plan to allow athletes to compete neutrally as a “world away from the reality of conflict”.

Mr. Zelensky, on the other hand, claims that there can be no neutrality in sports while his country’s players are dying on the battlefield.
