ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has appointed District Returning Officers(DROs), Returning Officers(ROs), and Assistant Returning officers(AROs) for the elections in Punjab.

The preparations for the elections is underway in Punjab. Regarding the appointment of DROs, ROs and AROs for the elections. The Election Commission said that 36 DROs have been appointed for the elections in Punjab.

The Election Commission said that DROs have been taken from the bureaucracy while 297 ROs have also been appointed for elections in Punjab.

According to the Election Commission, the AROs have also been taken from the bureaucracy by the Election Commission and a total 594 AROs have also been appointed for the elections in Punjab.

The Election Commission also appointed ROs for women and minority seats, in this regard Saeed Gul was appointed as RO for women and minority seats.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sought Rs15 billion from the government in order to make preparations for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to details, the funds were sought during a meeting held between officials from ECP and the Ministry of Finance. The ECP also demanded the immediate release of Rs10 billion for the perpetration of polls in two provinces.

During the meeting, the ECP sought Rs15 billion from the government for conducting elections in Punjab, KP. Sources added that the finance ministry has already provided Rs5 billion to the commission in this regard.

Meanwhile, sources claimed, the Secretary of Finance has assured ECP that its demand will be presented before the government. He said the government does not even have money for daily expenses.
Officials noted that the withdrawal of resignations from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs saved the costs of the by-election.

ECP demanded that funds should be provided under the revised budget for general elections otherwise Article 220 will be used for non-cooperation.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is taking extra measures to ensure fair and safe elections. As preparations continue for the upcoming elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ECP confirms plans to deploy the army for extra security measures to protect the election process.

According to sources, the ECP recently conducted its most important meeting to discuss electoral preparations for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner.

During the meeting, the Secretary of the Election Commission briefed the attendees on the preparations for the elections, including the allocation of 25 billion rupees for election spending in the two provinces.

Furthermore, the Election Commission demanded security arrangements for the elections from the Special Secretary, who will reportedly provide Rangers and FC personnel for election security in coordination with the Defense Secretary.

The Ministry of Finance also committed to fulfilling its constitutional responsibility to provide adequate election funds.

Secretary of Finance Hamid Yaqub Sheikh attended the meeting and stated in an informal conversation that “we have never refused to give funds, that we have asked the Election Commission to review the demands, and that we will implement the Supreme Court’s decision, that conducting elections is a constitutional responsibility and elections. The commission will issue a revised demand that will be presented to the government.”

Special Secretary Interior Syed Ali Murtaza was also present at the meeting.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned an important meeting with stakeholders to finalize preparations for holding polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the details, the Election Commission has called the stakeholders related to the elections tomorrow for the final consultation. The Chief Election Commissioner will preside over the important meeting.

The Election Commission said that the Finance Secretary and the Interior Secretary will attend the meeting of the Election Commission.

The Election Commission said that elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will incur expenses of Rs 25 billion. The Election Commission will direct the Finance Secretary to pay the election expenses immediately. The ECP will also issue directives to make security arrangements for the elections.

In the meeting, the Home Secretary will be asked to provide Army, Rangers, and FC personnel for election security. The Interior Secretary will be instructed to contact the Defence Secretary and GHQ.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP ) has started preparations for general elections in Punjab and necessary instructions have been issued to all the concerned wings.

According to the details, as soon as the date of the general election of Punjab was announced by the President, the Election Commission also started preparations to hold the polls on April 30.

Sources at the Election Commission of Pakistan said that the federal government will spend Rs 30 billion for the elections while Rangers, FC, and Police will be deployed for the security of the polls.
Apart from this, Pakistan Army personnel will be deployed as Quick Response Force.

On the other hand, the Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to write letters to the Secretary of Interior, and Secretary of Finance and to write letters to the Secretary of Defence and the High Court, including contacting all the stakeholders for the elections.

Earlier, President Dr. Arif Alvi approved the date of the election in Punjab and announced the polls on April 30, Sunday.

The development came after ECP writes a letter to the president and suggested dates from April 30 to May 7.

KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to conduct the elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in the light of the Supreme Court order.

According to the sources, a meeting of the Election Commission was held under the supervision of the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, in which the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab elections was considered.

Sources said that in the Election Commission meeting, the proposed dates of both provinces were consulted and it was agreed to keep the election schedule of 54 days.

Sources Election Commission said that Ramadan and Eid will be taken into consideration in the proposal of election dates and there will be final consultation with the stakeholders on the polls schedule. “If the President and the Governor consult, the Election Commission will participate.”

The Election Commission said that the preparations for the elections will be completed by April 24, and the ECP will give the date for the polls immediately after the completion of the arrangements.

The sources further said that the polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not possible in 90 days but steps will be taken to hold the election as soon as possible.

It should be noted that in view of the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an emergency meeting of the Election Commission was held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, in which DG Law briefed the ECP to follow the decision of the Supreme Court.

Sources said that the Election Commission has decided to resume the consultation process in light of the Supreme Court’s decision.

SARGODHA: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will form its government by defeating the opposition in Punjab.

Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah while addressing the PML-N workers convention in Sargodha  said that the party has never been afraid of going to the public, the PML-N has started the election campaign under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz.

He said, “We want to make it clear that we are neither afraid of the election nor have we retreated from it. We are of the opinion that the election should be joint and transparent. The election should be held jointly in national and provincial assemblies.”

Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah further said that justice should not only be done but should also be seen to be done.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has responded to another letter of President Dr. Arif Alvi.

According to the details, the meeting of the Election Commission regarding the elections of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab will be held on February 20.

The Election Commission wrote in its reply that ECP cannot participate in the consultation with the President, the final decision to participate in the consultation will be made in the meeting on Monday.

The Secretary has sent the reply from the Election Commission to the President.

The President called the Election Commission for consultation under Section 57 of the Election Act.

In response, the Election Commission also said that the ECP cannot fix the date of election by itself, according to the constitution, the poll day of the provincial assembly will be given by the governor.

LAHORE: Due to the recent wave of terrorism in the country, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab has launched a grand operation against terrorists.

According to the details, CTD conducted a grand operation last night on the hideouts of terrorists in Lahore, Sargodha, Multan, and other districts of the province.

According to CTD officials, eight terrorists of banned Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Daesh were arrested from five districts including Lahore. Terrorists were arrested during the interrogation of 36 suspects.

The CTD officials further said that the terrorists include Masood ur Rahman, Subhanullah, Sajid Ali, Aziz Khan, Shahid Ejaz, and Sharaft Ullah.

CTD officials said that suicide vests, explosives, arms, and bullets were recovered during the operation. The investigation has been started by registering seven cases against the terrorists.

CTD officials said that 483 combing operations were conducted this week in which 127 suspects were arrested.
