ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has called a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) to review preparations for the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Supreme Court, in a 3-2 verdict, ruled that elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab should be held within 90 days. The election commission decided to implement the decision and starting making arrangements for the polls in the two provinces.
President Arif Alvi announced that elections for provincial assembly in Punjab will be held on April 30. The elections has not yet announced the election schedule for the polls.
The date for the polls in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has not been confirmed. KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali has invited ECP officials to finalize a date for the general elections in the province.
The ECP has summoned a meeting to review the election preparations. Chief Election Commissioner will preside over the meeting which will be attended by four provincial members, Secretary ECP, and senior officials.
The meeting will be briefed on the preparations and printing of electoral rolls. It will prepare the demands of the election budget which will be sent to relevant authorities.
The meeting will consider the preparation of Result Management System (RMS) to compile the results and the availability of monitoring equipment.
The meeting will consider the availability of security for the elections in both the provinces. ECP Secretary will prepare proposals and steps will be taken regarding the polls.
