Child injured in political parties clash dies in JPMC

KARACHI: A child who was injured during a clash between two political parties in New Karachi a couple of days ago died at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The hospital administration, 11-year-old Abdul Rehman, who was injured in the firing, was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the JPMC.

The hospital administration said that the condition of the injured child was critical for two days and he died today.

On the other hand, no arrest has been made so far in the incident of clash between two political parties in New Karachi Sector 11 J.

The case was registered in the complaint of Muhammad Shahid, in which 5 to 6 alleged political workers are named while 5 to 6 unknown persons are also included.

The police said that raids were conducted at different places to arrest the accused, but the workers of both the political parties named in the cases are still absconding.

13 parties delisted for not holding intra-party elections

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has delisted 13 political parties for not conducting intra-party elections.

The ECP accepted the intra-party elections of two political parties and rejected the intra-party elections of 13 political parties.

In its decision, the Election Commission delisted 13 parties saying that the behavior of the political parties was not serious.

The ECP accepted the intra-party details of Jamiat Ulema e Pakistan(JUP) and issued the election symbol to JUI.

The electoral regulatory body has also issued election symbols to Pakistan Muslim League Jinnah while All Pakistan Minority Alliance, All Pakistan Tehreek, Awami Party Pakistan, and Bahawalpur National Awami Party have been delisted.

The ECP also delisted Sab Ka Pakistan, Pakistan Aman Council Party, and Pakistan National Muslim League for not conducting intra-party elections.

ECP teams erased illegal election hoardings from various cities

ISLAMABAD: The monitoring teams of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) persistently working to eliminate unauthorized campaign hoardings belonging to candidates vying for National and Provincial assemblies’ elections.

According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), nationwide monitoring teams have taken action to eliminate advertisement hoardings that surpass the prescribed limits.

In Peshawar and Mardan, the monitoring teams, in adherence to the code of conduct, have removed promotional materials of candidates who erected hoardings in violation of regulations.

These teams are actively addressing the issue by removing unauthorized hoardings and promotional materials across different constituencies.

In accordance with the Election Commission of Pakistan’s Code of Conduct issued on December 20, 2023, individuals and political parties are prohibited from affixing or distributing posters, handbills, pamphlets, leaflets, banners, or portraits larger than the specified sizes outlined by the ECP.

According to the list of causes issued by the Election Commission, the hearing of the case related to the intra-party election of 14 political parties will be held on January 4.

14 political parties include Jamiat Ulema Pakistan(JUP) and Pakistan Minorities Alliance(MAP).

It should be noted that on December 22, the Election Commission withdrew the electoral symbol of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf for not conducting intra-party elections as per the party constitution.

On the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Akhunzada Chattan, while talking to media, presented salute to her unyielding resilience and unwavering vision for the nation’s development.

He said that Benazir Bhutto always advocated the politics of principles and had firm believe that a true democracy was the ultimate solution to Pakistan’s problems instead of sowing seeds of hatred among masses.

Sharmila Farooqi PPP leader also paid a glowing tribute and acknowledged the sacrifices made by Benazir Bhutto that her relentless efforts for the protection of the rights of downtrodden sections of society which will always be remembered.

“We will not let Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s great sacrifice go in vain,” she added.

Pakistan Muslim league-N leader Shaista Pervaiz Malik said that the martyrdom of Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto was a huge loss for Pakistan, adding, there are many ways to admire her lifetime services but to me, her services for democracy trump them all.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) has decided to consult with the major political parties of the country.

The Election Commission will hold separate consultations with the political parties in which the parties will be taken into confidence regarding the elections.

After announcing that the general elections will be held in the new constituencies as per the approved census. The Election Commission will officially start the new constituencies while the final delimitation process will be completed by December 14.

Under the first phase, constituency committees will be formed from today and will be established in all provinces including the federal capital. These committees will get necessary data including district maps, and population from the provincial governments.

In the second phase, the committees will collect the census report and other information at the district level by August 31.

In the third phase, the 4-day training of the constituency committees will begin from September 1 and the committees will be informed by determining the population quota for the seats of the national and provincial assemblies.

The preliminary constituencies will be completed from September 8 to October 7, after which the details of the preliminary constituencies will be published on October 9.

Objections or suggestions can be filed from October 10 to November 8 and the Election Commission will hear these objections from October 10 to December 9.

According to the Election Commission, the constituencies will be finalized on December 14.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) allotted election symbols to political parties for the upcoming general elections.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja chaired a meeting of the election commission, wherein a briefing was given on various information technology (IT) projects related to general election 2023.

During the meeting, the ECP allotted election symbols for the general polls to 127 political parties collectively.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) election symbol of bat, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Arrow, and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN)’s lion remained the same in the symbol allotment.

Meanwhile, the officers of IT team and project management unit briefed the participants of the meeting on various projects, including election management system (EMS).

Returning officers (ROs) will be facilitated in compiling results under election management system (EMS).

The code of conduct draft for the next general elections in the country has been finalsied and the ECP has summoned the head of 21 political parties of the country on February 2 for consultation and seek their recommendations.

Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) of Pakistan Sikandar Sultan Raja will chair the meeting on February 2 for which invitations to political parties including Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, Awami National Party, Balochistan National Party, Awami Muslim League, Jamhoori Wattan Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pashtunkhwa PKMAP, Raah-e-Haq, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, and others.

On the other hand, Election Commission of Pakistan wrote letters to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governors regarding the holding of elections in both provinces.
