SIFC approves projects for attracting investments

ISLAMABAD: The third meeting of the Apex Committee of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was held here to continue the positive momentum to attract investment in various sectors of economy.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and attended by Chief of Army Staff, chief ministers, federal and provincial ministers, and high-level government officials.

The prime minister appreciated the expeditious operationalization of SIFC in a short span and its efficient functioning through a collaborative approach.

The Apex Committee appreciated the global impact of the ongoing outreach strategy through seminars and project inaugurations; which would be augmented by the SIFC’s website, being launched shortly.

It gave final approval of the projects, presented by the ministries, for attracting investments from friendly countries, under the umbrella of SIFC, in key sectors of agriculture, livestock, mining, minerals, information technology and energy.

The Apex Committee showed all-out support for successful conduct of the upcoming visit of a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan through the SIFC platform. The prime minister directed to make this inaugural visit a momentous event.

ISLAMABAD: United States Secretary of Defence Lloyd J Austin telephoned Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir and discussed areas of mutual interest as well as regional situation.

“Today I had the opportunity to congratulate General Asim Munir, Pakistan’s newly appointed Chief of Army Staff,” the US defence secretary said in a statement.

Austin said that the US and Pakistan have a long-standing defence partnership and “I look forward to working with General Munir.”

During the phone call, the defence department added, the two military leaders discussed areas of mutual interest as well as recent regional developments.

This was the second high-level interaction between the US and Pakistani defence authorities since General Asim Munir took over as the Army Chief on November 29.

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s efforts brought positive results to the country as the Peoples Republic of China announced to give aid of 500 Million Yuan for the flood victims, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement.

As per the details, COAS arrived in Beijing on a two-day visit where matters of defense cooperation and other interests were discussed. “China gives great importance to its relations with Pakistan,” said the Chinese Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe during the meeting.

Chinese Defense Minister expressed hope for timely completion of the CPEC project. General Wei Fenghe also thanked Army Chief for providing a safe environment for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, ISPR mentioned.

Chinese Defense Minister thanked Army Chief for special measures for regional stability efforts, according to ISPR.

The government of China will provide 300 million Yuan for the flood affectees, whereas the People’s Liberation Army will give 100 million Yuan to assist the affectees. China will also provide 100 Million Yuan aid on a humanitarian basis. The total aid of 500 million Yuan makes up to 15.8 billion in Pakistani rupees ($71.3 million), ISPR mentioned.

The Defence Secretary expressed grief over the devastation caused by the unprecedented floods in Pakistan and offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.  He offered full support to the people of Pakistan.

RAWALPINDI: General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited the Tunneling Institute of Pakistan (TIP). COAS inaugurated a state-of-the-art Tunneling Institute, an initiative of FWO. TIP is aimed at promoting professional tunneling expertise including research and development and synergizing tunneling resources, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement.

According to the ISPR statement, (TIP) will provide a unique platform for tunneling education that includes both academic and industry expertise. To date, TIP is the only sixth such facility of its kind to have been constructed and functioning within the 10-month time constraint set by the FWO.

Later, COAS visited National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC).
COAS General Bajwa was appraised about the latest polio Campaigns operated in the country and the challenges being encountered. COAS directed to provide additional manpower/resources in sensitive zones to ensure a safe and secure environment for polio teams for the proper reach and significance of polio Campaigns to attain the goal of a polio-free Pakistan.

DOHA: General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), on Thursday paid an official tour to Qatar at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated in a press release.

The COAS also met His Excellency Doctor Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, State of Qatar, the ISPR said.

During the meetings, matters of mutual interest, defense and security cooperation, and regional environment were discussed. The army chief said, “Both the countries share a great history of cordial relations and a deep spirit of brotherhood, which are being transformed into an enduring partnership.”

Both sides underscored the importance of further enhancing cooperation in all fields. Notable of the State of Qatar also admired Pakistan’s continuous efforts for peace and stability in the region and vowed to keep working for better relations between the two fraternal countries, the ISPR added.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa has stressed the need for better management of the western zone with due focus on border security.

Addressing the garrison officers at Corps Headquarters Mangla, COAS Bajwa highlighted Pakistan’s consistent support for the Afghan peace process, the regional environment and its implications on Pakistan’s security.

He said we must stay abreast of the evolving situation and never dishonour our guard whatsoever.

Referring to the national effort against the Coronavirus pandemic, the Army Chief commended all ranks for their all-out support to civil administration in ensuring public safety and wellbeing.

During the visit to Corps Headquarters Mangla, General Qamar Javed Bajwa was briefed about operational preparedness, training and the ongoing Corps War Games besides the administrative matters.

Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Corps HQ Quetta today (Tuesday). On his arrival, COAS was received by Corps Commander Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali.

COAS was given a detailed briefing on the security situation, operational preparedness, border management including fencing along Pak-Afghan and Pak-Iran borders.

He was also briefed on the socio-economic initiatives undertaken by the Army in support of Govt of Balochistan and efforts underway for capacity enhancement of LEAs to ensure peace and stability.
