Poverty, unemployment leads to human trafficking: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi in his special termed the poverty, unemployment and unequal distribution of resources as major factors behind the rising figures of human trafficking.

He stated on “World Day Against Human Trafficking” that underdeveloped countries were badly affected by human trafficking, and organized gangs were also active in Pakistan.

He emphasized that FIA always remains vigilant in curbing these gangs and apprehended several suspects. He underscored the need for multi-faceted joint actions from the international community to prevent human trafficking.

Interior Minister said that human traffickers played with the lives of thousands of people, families have been separated from their loved ones.

He stressed that people must stand together against the heinous crime.

He reiterated that let us work together to raise awareness against human trafficking, address its causes, and strive for a society where no one is exploited due to human trafficking.

All passport related issues to be resolved by September

ISLAMABAD:  Director General (DG) Passport and Immigration Mustafa Jamal Qazi said that all passport related issues will be resolved by September.

While briefing the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior, DG Passport said that there were complaints of delay in passport printing because the machinery was inactive, approval has been given to get e-passport machinery, 6 new printers will also inducted for passport printing.

DG Passport said that the delay in the passport printing process will be controlled and all passport related issues will be resolved in September.

DG Passport said that additional counters have been set up in passport offices while the passport system was 20 years old  and there were 20 old printers out of which 13 were working. The issue of lamination papers was due to dollar which has been resolved.

Earlier, Federal Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi took notice of the delay in providing passports to overseas Pakistanis and directed them to ensure the issuance of passports within the stipulated period.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited passport and NADRA centers in London and asked the problems of the overseas Pakistanis present in the centers.

Senator Mohsin Naqvi ordered to issue urgent passports for overseas Pakistanis in 7 days and normal passports in 30 days.

National Drug Survey to be conducted after 11 years gap

ISLAMABAD: Federal Government under the supervision ministry of interior has decided to conduct national drug survey in the country after 11 years.

Under the National Drug Survey, data will be collected from people who use drugs across the country. The data will also be collected from educational institutions, slums and other places.

To complete the national mission of protecting the new generation from drugs, a meeting of the Committee for National Drug Survey was held under the chairmanship of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Federal Anti-Narcotics Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that the National Drug Survey should be comprehensive and authentic in every case. Only with an authentic and comprehensive survey will it be possible to make comprehensive and detailed decisions in the field of anti-narcotics. There will be no compromise on anti-narcotics because it is the future of the nation is on stake.

Mohsin Naqvi further said that ANF and Pakistan Bureau of Statistics should jointly formulate the methodology, nature of required data, sample format, and timeline for conducting the survey. International development organizations should also be contacted for cooperation in conducting the survey.

Remember that the last National Drug Survey was conducted in 2013.

Naqvi strongly condemns Bannu terrorist attack

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack on the Bannu Cantonment and paid tribute to the security forces for foiling the assault.

In a statement, the interior minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the eight security personnel who were martyred in the attack.

He described the brave men as the pride of the nation and said their great sacrifices would always be remembered.

“The enemy is making a heinous conspiracy to destabilize Pakistan but we will end the scourge of terrorism with the strength of unity and agreement,” the interior minister said.

Naqvi praised the courage and resilience of the security forces, stating that they had foiled the terrorists’ nefarious intentions by sending 10 of them to hell.

He said the martyrs are the pride of the entire nation and the government stands with their families.

The interior minister prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured security personnel and reiterated the government’s commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity.

The sacrifices of the martyrs will always be remembered and the nation salutes to the bravery and professionalism of the security forces in thwarting the conspiracy of terrorism, he expressed.

On the other hand, President of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and Federal Minister for Privatization, Board of Investment, and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan paid glowing tributes to soldiers who sacrificed their lives and families for the future of Pakistan’s children.

He called these soldiers the true heroes of the nation. In a tweet about the recent security operation near Bannu, he expressed gratitude, saying that soldiers are always ready and alert to counter anti-state elements.

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi visited Karachi and met with Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, at the Burhani Palace.

He also visited the Shah Shaheedan Imam Bargah in Soldier Bazaar and reviewed the arrangements.

During the meeting with Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, his son Shahzada Hussain Burhanuddin was also present.

Interior Minister expressed good wishes for Saifuddin saying, “We welcome you to Pakistan with an open heart. Your arrival is an honor for us. The Interior Minister expressed satisfaction over the security and other arrangements at the Imam Bargah.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has banned the purchase of petrol motorcycles in the federal capital and said that in order to reduce environmental pollution.  The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will buy only electric bikes in the future and eco-friendly electric buses will be run for the citizens of Islamabad.

He said that international standard emergency services will be provided to the citizens of Islamabad and it has been decided to transfer the emergency services from Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad to CDA.

LHC fixes plea seeking Naqvi’s disqualification from Senate seat for hearing

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court(LHC) has fixed for hearing a petition seeking the disqualification of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi from the Senate seat.

Acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan will hear the petition with objection on July 1.

The Registrar’s Office objected to the petition that the petitioner was not an aggrieved party.

According to the petitioner Citizen Mashkoor Hussain, Mohsin Naqvi is not eligible to become a senator while holding the post of Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) Chairman.

It is stated in the petition that under Article 63, Mohsin Naqvi cannot continue in the position of senator, it is requested that the court should order the removal of Mohsin Naqvi from the position of senator.

It should be noted that Mohsin Naqvi was elected unopposed as the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board on February 6 this year and he was the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab at that time.

43 Pakistani prisoners in Sri Lanka to return home

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s success on the diplomatic front will bring 43 Pakistani citizens back to their homes from Siri Lankan jails.

In a high-level meeting on Friday with the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Admiral (Retd) Ravindra Chandra Srivijay Gunaratne, it was agreed to immediately repatriate 43 Pakistani citizens imprisoned in Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had been working with the Sri Lankan authorities for the past month to bring back these prisoners.

The Sri Lankan High Commissioner assured all possible cooperation in this regard. Interior Minister Monsin Naqvi thanked the Sri Lankan High Commissioner for his support for the repatriation of the prisoners.

The arrangements for the return of Pakistani prisoners will be finalised in a few days, Mohsin Naqvi said in his statement.

The minister said that relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan have been going from strength to strength over the past seven decades. He said that Pakistan wants to further develop mutual relations in various fields with Siri Lanka.

In the meeting, it was agreed to take immediate steps to return the prisoners of both countries to their country. Issues of mutual interest and the development of bilateral relations were also discussed in the meeting.

Both sides agreed to increase cooperation in the field of security and counter-narcotics.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited NADRA headquarters where the Interior Minister was briefed on the digital monitoring system of NADRA centers across Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the interior minister called for a plan to increase NADRA centers in 6 major cities, while he has directed immediate steps to build more NADRA centers in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Mohsin Naqvi has also ordered effective action to end the fake identity card mafia.

On this occasion, Mohsin Naqvi said that he had visited the NADRA centers, reviewed the situation, the people are facing difficulties. A plan should be made so that the people who come to the NADRA centers are comfortable and the work is done without delay.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed to finalize a plan to facilitate people for issuing and renewing their identity cards at union council level across the country within a few days.

For issuing ID cards to citizens, biometric machines will be installed at every union council across Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the killing of seven people in Gwadar.

According to media reports, unidentified gunmen shot dead seven labourers in an attack in Sarbandar area of Gwadar in Balochistan early Thursday.

The prime minister prayed to Allah Almighty for peace for the departed souls and sympathised with the bereaved families. “We share the grief of the victim families.

Such an attack is a cowardly act of anti-state elements,” he said and reiterated the resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.

On the other hand, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the terrorist incident in Gwardar.

Minister Naqvi expressed deep sorrow and grief over the killing of 7 people in the heinous incident.

He expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and said that government equally shares the grief of the bereaved families and standing with the grieving families in the hour of sorrow.

Beasts who play with the lives of innocent people do not deserve to be called human beings, said the minister in his message.

“We are committed to the complete elimination of the scourge of terrorism” Mohsin Naqvi said.
