Rabya Kulsoom wants brands not to feature cricketers in advertisements

  • Rabya urged brands to reconsider their choices.
  • She questioned the involvement of cricketers in entertainment.

India’s victory over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has sparked intense debate online. Among those expressing disappointment is renowned actress Rabya Kulsoom, who has spoken against brands for featuring cricketers in advertisements instead of letting them focus on their game.

Taking to Instagram, Rabya urged brands to reconsider their choices. “I would like to request all brands to stop taking these cricketers as their brand faces and let them focus on what they are supposed to do—play cricket,” she wrote.

She further questioned the growing involvement of cricketers in entertainment, adding, “Let actors do their job, but if cricketers want to act, then let actors be part of the team too.”

Sarcastically commenting on Pakistan’s performance, she suggested that actors Fahad Mustafa and Faizan Sheikh should be made team captains instead. “Maybe @mustafafahad26 or @mfaizansk should be made captain! Maybe we’ll get better results,” she remarked.

Her comments quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions from Pakistani cricket fans. While some agreed with her frustration, others defended the national team, arguing that brand endorsements are a standard part of modern sports.

Tum kya jano desh prem kya hota hai (I want to say that you are a petty person and you will die petty too. What do you know about love for the nation).”

Another person taunted him, writing, “Aaj suraj kaha se nikla. Andar se dukh hoga apko to (Where from did the sun rise today? You must be feeling sad).” Akhtar hit back, saying, “Beta jab tumhare baap dada angrez ke jootay chaat rahe thay tab mere aazadi ke liye jail aur kala paani mein thay. Meri ragon mein desh premion ka khoon hai aur tumhari ragon mein angrez ke naukaron ka khoon hai. Iss anter ko bhoolo nahin Son, (when your father and grandfather were licking the boots of the British, at that time mine were in jail and Kaala Paani (a prison in Port Blair). I have the blood of patriots in my veins, you have the blood of British servants in your veins. Don’t forget that difference).”
