An opener who gave electrifying starts and devasted bowling attacks, Anwar is considered one of the greatest opening batsmen Pakistan ever produced.

The prolific left-handed batsman was born on September 6, 1968, in Karachi.  He did not rely on strength but played with instincts and placed the ball in the gaps.

Opting to take a break from the game after the death of his daughter in August 2001, he was a lesser force when he came back, though he still managed a hundred against India in the 2003 World Cup.
