Nawaz Sharif

Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was the 12th Prime Minister of Pakistan, who took over the office since June 2013. A veteran politician and industrialist, Sharif has previously served as the Prime Minister on two other occasions —from 1990 to 1993 and from 1997 to 1999.

Born on 25 December 1949 into a well-to-do family in Lahore, he entered his family business upon his graduation. His father founded the Ittefaq Group of Industries which is today a large conglomerate dealing in steel, sugar, paper, and textiles.

He first came to national prominence during the early days of Gen Zia’s martial law, serving as Punjab province’s finance and then chief minister from 1985-1990. When he first became the Prime Minister in 1990 he attempted to create an economy based on privatization and economic liberalization in order to pave the way for Pakistan’s rapid industrial development. In 1999, he was deposed from the office in a coup by the then Army Chief Pervez Musharraf and sent to exile in Saudi Arabia. However, Nawaz Sharif came nack to Pakistan in 2007 and eventually regained power in 2013.

On July 28, 2017, Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered the removal of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from the office after an investigative panel alleged his family could not account for its vast wealth.

It all started in 1990s, when Sharif twice served as the prime minister, was alleged of money laundering and purchased assets in London. The assets surfaced when Panama Papers leaked in 2016 revealed that they were managed through offshore companies owned by Sharif’s children.

Lahore: The nomination papers of former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif from NA-130 have been accepted.

PML-N leader Bilal Yaseen submitted nomination papers from party leader Nawaz Sharif’s NA-130, which has been approved.

Bilal Yaseen said that Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers were presented in the Returning Officer’s office where the RO answered questions and approved Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers.

Bilal Yaseen said that Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Amjad Parvez also appeared in the RO’s office along with him.

PML-N leader Bilal Yasin himself is contesting the election from the provincial seat PP 173 of this constituency, while National Assembly Constituency NA 130 is the native constituency of Nawaz Sharif and he has contested elections from here before.

According to sources, after the approval of Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers, he is now eligible to contest the election.

National Assembly Constituency NA 130 from Lahore includes the outer part of the city which includes other areas including Gowal Mandi and Anarkali and is a major constituency of the city.

PESHAWAR: The absconding leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Senator Azam Khan Swati, has announced to contest the election against Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif in the upcoming general elections 2024.

A video of Senator Azam Khan Swati has been released on the social media page of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, in which Azam Swati is expressing his desire to contest elections against Nawaz Sharif in the National Assembly constituency from Mansehra.

The PTI leader, accusing the former prime minister of corruption and making properties abroad by looting the country’s wealth, said that Nawaz Sharif has submitted his nomination papers to contest the National Assembly election from NA-15 Mansehra.

Azam Swati said, “If my party gives me the ticket, I will fight against Nawaz Sharif, and the brave people, mothers, sisters, and brothers of Mansehra will support and vote for me on February 8”.

It should be remembered that the leader of Muslim League-N, Captain (Retd) Safdar Awan, had received the nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif from Mansehra and he said that Nawaz Sharif would become the Prime Minister of the country for the fourth time after winning the National Assembly election from Mansehra.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed the appeal of former prime minister PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference for hearing on December 7.

The National Accountability Bureau’s appeal to increase Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Al-Azizia reference will also be heard in the Islamabad High Court on December 7.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will  hear the case.

It should be remembered that on July 6, 2018, Islamabad’s accountability court sentenced Nawaz Sharif to 11 years in prison in the Avenfield reference.

Also, on December 24, 2018, the Accountability Court of Islamabad sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to 7 years in prison and a fine in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had restored the appeals against the sentence in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references at the request of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.

A few days ago, the Islamabad High Court acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference by annulling his 11-year prison sentence.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has formed a 35-member Central Parliamentary Board for the upcoming elections in 2024.

Leader of Muslim League (N) Nawaz Sharif approved the Central Parliamentary Board and Chairman Central Election Cell Ishaq Dar issued a notification on the approval of Nawaz Sharif.

The members include Khawaja Asif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Ahsan Iqbal, Hamza Shahbaz, Ameer Muqam, Rana Sanaullah, Javed Latif, Pervaiz Rasheed, Muhammad Safdar and Bashir Memon.

The Central Parliamentary Board of the PML-N will decide to award party tickets to the candidates in the elections.

On the other hand, the Divisional Co-ordination Committee of Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has started interviews for party tickets.

The coordination committee of the Rawalpindi Division includes Pervez Rasheed, Malik Abrar, Tahira Aurangzeb, and Atta Tarar, which has started interviewing the candidates for the election.

The coordination committee will complete the interviews of the candidates by November 29 for ticket distribution

The interviews of PML-N candidates for 2 national and 5 provincial seats of Attock have been completed, while the divisional coordinator of the committee, Pervez Rasheed, will conduct the interviews of the candidates today.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed appeals of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Avenfield and Al-Azizia references for hearing on November 21.

Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will hear the references.

The court had restored Nawaz Sharif’s appeals on his return from abroad.

It should be noted that Nawaz Sharif was sentenced by the accountability court in Al-Azizia and Avonfield references, while Nawaz Sharif has challenged the verdicts since 2018.

Earlier, Islamabad High Court had reinstated Nawaz Sharif’s appeals against his sentence in the Al-Azizia and Avonfield references.

According to President District Bar Islamabad Qaiser Imam, there was no legal complication in the restoration of appeals, Nawaz Sharif’s appeals had to be restored, and the law is clear, but what is in the decision on Nawaz Sharif’s bail issue has to be seen.
