IHC fixes appeal of Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia reference for hearing

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed the appeal of former prime minister PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference for hearing on December 7.

The National Accountability Bureau’s appeal to increase Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Al-Azizia reference will also be heard in the Islamabad High Court on December 7.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will  hear the case.

It should be remembered that on July 6, 2018, Islamabad’s accountability court sentenced Nawaz Sharif to 11 years in prison in the Avenfield reference.

Also, on December 24, 2018, the Accountability Court of Islamabad sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to 7 years in prison and a fine in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had restored the appeals against the sentence in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references at the request of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.

A few days ago, the Islamabad High Court acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference by annulling his 11-year prison sentence.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed appeals of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Avenfield and Al-Azizia references for hearing on November 21.

Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will hear the references.

The court had restored Nawaz Sharif’s appeals on his return from abroad.

It should be noted that Nawaz Sharif was sentenced by the accountability court in Al-Azizia and Avonfield references, while Nawaz Sharif has challenged the verdicts since 2018.

Earlier, Islamabad High Court had reinstated Nawaz Sharif’s appeals against his sentence in the Al-Azizia and Avonfield references.

According to President District Bar Islamabad Qaiser Imam, there was no legal complication in the restoration of appeals, Nawaz Sharif’s appeals had to be restored, and the law is clear, but what is in the decision on Nawaz Sharif’s bail issue has to be seen.

Punjab cabinet issues written order to suspend sentence of Nawaz Sharif

LAHORE: The interim cabinet of Punjab has issued a written order to suspend the sentence of former prime minister and leader of Muslim League (N) Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference.

According to the Caretaker Punjab Home Department, Nawaz Sharif applied to the Punjab Home Department to suspend the sentence, on the Chief Minister formed a committee consisting of caretaker ministers to review the application.

The committee gave an opportunity of hearing to Nawaz Sharif’s lawyers Amjad Pervaiz, and Atta Tarar, besides this, the committee also heard Nawaz Sharif’s physician in detail.

The Home Department says that according to the doctor, Nawaz Sharif’s health is not fully recovered and he cannot be jailed.

According to the Punjab Home Department, the committee comprising the caretaker provincial ministers, bureaucrats, AG Punjab, and others sent recommendations. The committee recommended suspension of Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the light of past examples and court decisions.

Punjab Home Department said that caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued an order to approve the recommendations of the committee and Nawaz Sharif’s sentence is suspended after the approval of the caretaker chief minister and cabinet members.

A two-member bench of the IHC will hear the appeal on September 1.

Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) appeals against Nawaz Sharif’s extension of sentence and his acquittal in the flagship reference has also been fixed for hearing.

The Islamabad High Court’s special bench comprising Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani will hear the appeals of Nawaz Sharif and NAB.

‘PML-N was formed on the basis of deceit and fib’, says Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday targeted leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for holding the government responsible for allowing Nawaz Sharif to travel abroad for treatment.

Taking to Twitter, Chaudhry said PML-N leaders and their supporters in media used to say day and night how critically ill Nawaz Sharif is, and if he was not let go abroad his life would be in peril.

Since National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to bring back PML-N supremo, these people have been saying that it was the government that had sent Sharif abroad and ask how could they ask him to fly back home. This is the deceit and fib on the basis of which the PML-N was formed, he added.

However, Muhammad Nafees Zakaria, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom has written a letter to the British government regarding the extradition of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan.

The development came a day after Federal Minister for Information Senator Shibli Faraz said that it is necessary to bring back Mian Nawaz to Pakistan and the government will ask the Foreign Office (FO) to take steps for his return.

While addressing a press conference on Saturday, advisor to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Home Affairs, Shehzad Akbar, confirmed that the government of Pakistan has initiated necessary legal action for the extradition of Nawaz Sharif.

NAB decides to bring back PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Salman Shehbaz

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to bring back former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and Salman Shehbaz.

According to NAB sources, court will be approached for execution of Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Al-Azizia reference. It has also been decided to contact the UK through Foreign Office to bring back Nawaz Sharif.

The anti-graft watchdog has also decided to inform the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif is absconding.

According to NAB officials, the bail of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expired and he is now a fugitive accused and criminal.
