LAHORE: Supremo of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and a former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that he does not endorse revenge. However, he emphasized the need for accountability for those involved in ‘conspiring’ against his government.
Speaking at a PML-N Parliamentary body meeting, Nawaz Sharif expressed gratitude to Allah following his acquittal in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield references.
He highlighted that cases against him were filed after his government ended and he was removed from the position of prime minister.
According to Sharif, there was no evidence to support the allegations against him. He lamented his removal as prime minister in the Panama case, citing the use of terms like “Sicilian Mafia” and “Godfather” during the Panama hearing and questioning whether judges should employ such language.

While Nawaz Sharif clarified that his objective is not vengeance, he insisted that those responsible for the nation’s hardships should be held accountable.
He stressed the importance of revealing the individuals involved in the conspiracy, asserting that they were targeted due to their efforts to disengage from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.
Nawaz Sharif also reflected on the personal toll of the situation, noting that he and his daughter Maryam were unjustly imprisoned in what he referred to as ‘fake cases,’ while his wife, Kalsoom Begum, succumbed to cancer in London.
He expressed that these wounds would never fully heal.
It is noteworthy that Nawaz Sharif had previously been convicted in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references by the accountability court, but he has recently been acquitted in both cases.
