LAHORE: The Lahore High Court(LHC) restrained the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from taking a final decision in contempt reference against the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI).

Lahore High Court judge Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan heard the petition of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief in which the action taken by the Election Commission has been challenged.

During the hearing,  the court directed the Election Commission to continue the proceedings but stopped it from taking a final decision on the petition.

The court referred the PTI chairman’s plea to the Chief Justice Lahore High Court and recommended that the case be presented before a larger bench for hearing.

In the petition filed through Sameer Khosa Advocate, it has been requested that the contempt proceeding of the Election Commission against the head of PTI should be annulled.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed federal and provincial caretakers governments to ensure free and fair elections in the country.

The Election Commission has once again sent a warning letter to the caretaker federal and provincial governments, asking them to desist from taking steps to jeopardize the elections.

In the letter written by the Election Commission, it was clarified that the caretaker governments should not be involved in such work which may threaten the conduct of elections and governments should not obstruct the conduct of transparent elections.

According to the text of the letter, caretaker governments should not influence the conduct of transparent elections in any way. The caretaker governments should be limited to the powers given under the Election Act, 2017.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) warned the caretaker government of Punjab against taking decisions related to major initiatives.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the schedule of delimitations of the constituencies and said that general elections cannot be held in 90 days.

The Election Commission has decided to delimit the constituencies based on the new census across the country and allotted four months for the delimitation.

The Election Commission says that the general elections cannot be held in 90 days and the final publication of constituencies will be done on December 14. The delimitations of the constituencies will be done across the country from September 8 to October 7 while suggestions will be given regarding constituencies from October to November 8.

Similarly, from September 5 to September 7, the quota of constituencies of national and provincial assemblies will be allocated. The administrative affairs related to constituencies will be completed by August 31.

According to the Election Commission, Constituency Committees of the four provinces including Islamabad will be established by August 21. The Election Commission will decide on objections to the constituencies from November 10 to December 9.

The Election Commission says that the new constituencies will be finalized by December 14. After completing the delimitation constituencies by December 14, the Election Commission will announce the election schedule.

According to the Election Commission, the final publication of the digital census has been done and ECP is bound to make new constituencies.

It should be noted that when the Assembly is dissolved, the Election Commission has to announce the date of elections under Article 224 One. According to the constitution, if the Assembly is dissolved before the expiry of the period, general elections must be held within 90 days.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) has demanded to the Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) to announce the date of the polls in order to hold general elections across the country as per the constitution.

Pakistan People’s Party leader Faisal Karim Kundi says that the party believes that according to the constitution, elections to all assemblies should be held on the same day. He said free and fair general elections mandatory for country prosperity.

He also reiterated that according to the constitution, there should be no delay in announcing the date of the general elections and the election schedule should be given immediately.

The PPP leader said that before the Election Commission gives the schedule, the transfers of officers is beyond understanding. He said constituencies have not been decided while the Election Commission is already giving orders.

The letter states that the National Assembly, Sindh and Baluchistan Assemblies have been dissolved, holding elections is the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission, administrative changes should be made in the federation and provinces for fair and transparent elections. All these administrative officers should be changed.

The Election Commission has directed that the Commissioners, RPOs and CPOs, Deputy Commissioners, DPOs, SDPOs, ADCRs and Assistant Commissioners in Sindh and Balochistan should be changed. The federal secretaries should also be changed.

The Election Commission has ordered that transfers and appointments should not be made without the approval of the Election Commission.

ISLAMABAD: Former Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad has said that if the Council of Common Interests (CCI) approves the census, the general elections will go on till February 15, 2024, at least.

A meeting of the Council of Common Interests(CCI) has been convened on August 5 to approve the results of the Digital Census 2023.

In this regard, former Secretary of Election Commission Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said that if the CCI approves the census, the general elections will go on at least until February 15, 2024.

He said that in case of gazette notification of the new census, the Election Commission is legally obliged to re-define the constituencies, for which the Election Commission will require an additional three months in addition to the constitutional period of three months.

It should be noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said at the dinner of the allies that he will send the summary of the dissolution of the National Assembly to the President on August 9.

Earlier, a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) has been convened on August 5 to approve the results of the Digital Census 2023.

Informed sources say that the Prime Minister has approved the summary sent by the Ministry of Planning and Development in which a meeting of the CCI was demanded to approve the results of the digital census.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has extended the date of application for registration of vote, accuracy of data, exclusion of vote, and transfer of vote.

Citizens can now approach Election Commission till July 20, 2023, for registration, exclusion, and validation of vote.

According to the Election Commission spokesperson, citizens can immediately SMS their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number to 8300 through mobile phones to get information about their vote and get information about their vote.

According to the spokesman, voter registration can be done at either the permanent or temporary address on the identity card.

Citizens can download the form from Election Commission’s website for registration, transfer, deletion, or change of their vote, which can be filled out and submitted to the concerned District Election Commissioner’s office.

Citizens are also advised to use Form No. 21 for vote registration and transfer. Form No. 22 can be used for objection and exclusion of vote. Form No. 23 has been given for correctness of data.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to conduct strict scrutiny for the appointment of returning officers (ROs).

According to the details, the preparations for the upcoming general elections are going on. The Election Commission of Pakistan has widened the process of scrutiny of returning officers.

An informal report has been requested from the institutions and the concerned officers. The work on the lists of seats for the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has been completed while the process of scrutiny for the seats of the National Assembly, Sindh, and Balochistan Assembly is going on.

The Election Commission will appoint the Returning Officers after satisfaction. Delays in the appointment of ROs will be attributed to the scrutiny process.

According to the law, ROs have to be appointed two months before the schedule of general elections. Election Commission will soon appoint District Returning Officers(DROs), Returning Officers(ROs) including Assistant Returning Officers(AROs).

Separate ROs will be appointed for the constituencies of the National and Provincial Assemblies for the general elections. The Returning Officers will prepare the polling scheme of the respective constituencies after the appointments. Returning officers will be appointed in 859 constituencies for general elections.

On the other hand, in connection with the preparations for the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, the Election Commission has prepared a polling scheme draft. 100,000 polling stations will be established across the country.
