LHC orders amendment in rules to retain father’s name in women CNIC

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court(LHC)  has ordered that the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports amend the rules to retain the father’s name on the Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) of women.

The Lahore High Court has directed the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports to complete the amendment in three months in the laws allowing women to have their father’s name on the CNIC and passport.

Justice Asim Hafeez pronounced this order on the petition filed by Mehr Bano Langrial.

The petition stated that a married woman has the right to have her father’s name on her identity documents.

It is to mention that as per the NADRA policy, a married woman is free to decide if she wants to retain her father’s name in the “father’s name” column on the CNIC, irrespective of her marital status.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered to block mobile SIMs issued on expired Computerised National Identity Card(CNIC).

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited National Database & Registration Authority’s  headquarters where a meeting was held under his chairmanship in which he directed to build model NADRA offices across the country on the pattern of model police stations in Punjab.

The Interior Minister said that the establishment of model police stations in Punjab improved the image of the police along with the convenience of the people.

Mohsin Naqvi said that death certificate fee is being abolished while  simple system should be introduced for birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates in collaboration with union council offices.

The Interior Minister directed that the complete security of citizens’ data should be ensured and more facilities should be provided on mobile platforms for the convenience of the people, and social media should be used effectively to promote the initiatives of the institution.

The Federal Interior Minister also ordered to block mobile SIMs issued on over-expired identity cards.

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has established a helpline to provide computerised national identity card issuance service at the doorstep, aiming to improve accessibility and convenience for people with disabilities.

The initiative has streamlined the process of acquiring a computerised national identity card (CNIC), making it effortless and convenient for individuals with disabilities.

The CNIC issuance service, provided at home, is designed to assist individuals with disabilities who face challenges visiting NADRA registration centers due to mobility or other physical limitations.

NADRA officials will personally visit their residences to gather required documents, record biometric data, and issue CNICs, ensuring equitable access to this vital identity document for all, he explained. He said that the Special Helpline 1777 functions as a centralized support hub for individuals with disabilities, offering thorough assistance and guidance on NADRA’s services, including the home-based CNIC issuance procedure.

This endeavor underscores NADRA’s pledge to inclusivity and its unwavering commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities, he added.

ECP successfully completes training of polling staff

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed the training of 96% of the polling staff, which includes 970,000 out of a total of 976,000 staff members.

An ECP spokesperson said in a statement that the training for the remaining 6,000 polling staff would conclude within the next four days.

He said the preparations of February 8 general elections were being completed swiftly. The ballot paper printing, conducted in three government press offices, is proceeding well. Initiated on January 16 after the assignment of election symbols by the RO, this task is set to conclude by February 2 in the next four days.

PESHAWAR: The Home Department government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to block 58,000 suspicious Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).

The decision to block suspicious CNICs was made in the meeting of the steering committee of the provincial home department.

According to the document, the Home Department has issued orders to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to block fake identity cards and has sent a letter to NADRA to block fake proof of registration (POR), Afghan cards.

Sources said that NADRA has blocked fake POR cards, Afghan cards, and fake Pakistani identity cards.

The document states that the process of mapping 9,720 illegal residents in Peshawar has also been completed and a deadline of five days has been given to all deputy commissioners regarding the details of block cards.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has extended the date of application for registration of vote, accuracy of data, exclusion of vote, and transfer of vote.

Citizens can now approach Election Commission till July 20, 2023, for registration, exclusion, and validation of vote.

According to the Election Commission spokesperson, citizens can immediately SMS their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number to 8300 through mobile phones to get information about their vote and get information about their vote.

According to the spokesman, voter registration can be done at either the permanent or temporary address on the identity card.

Citizens can download the form from Election Commission’s website for registration, transfer, deletion, or change of their vote, which can be filled out and submitted to the concerned District Election Commissioner’s office.

Citizens are also advised to use Form No. 21 for vote registration and transfer. Form No. 22 can be used for objection and exclusion of vote. Form No. 23 has been given for correctness of data.
