Shehbaz Sharif, Maulana Fazl agree on a joint action plan against PTI

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has said a joint course of action will be announced by key opposition parties in the next few days.

Shehbaz Sharif made the remarks after a meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman at his Islamabad residence today (Tuesday).

“We will announce a course of action in a few days,” Shehbaz said while addressing a press conference alongside Fazl.

“We had a good conversation [with Fazl] and are in consensus. We will sit together with other opposition parties and take this consultation session forward,” he said

Fazl, adding to Shehbaz’s remarks, said that they had a good meeting and that the opposition was well on their way to arriving at a common platform.

“We had already called a meeting of the smaller opposition parties for today; however, it was postponed due to Mir Hasil Bizenjo’s death. The meeting will now be held at a later date,” he said.

He added that opposition parties were firm on working together towards a joint strategy. “We want all the opposition parties united on a joint strategy,” Fazl said.

Earlier in a day, An accountability court on Tuesday sought arguments on an application seeking to unfreeze assets of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and members of his family.

Admin Judge Jawadul Hassan directed lawyers representing the Opposition Leader to appear on next hearing on August 27 to put forth their arguments in the case.

Shehbaz stated in his plea that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) froze his family’s properties in utter disregard for the actual facts as assets can not be frozen during the process of investigation.

He requested the accountability court to review its verdict of allowing the national graft buster to freeze the assets.

An accountability court on Tuesday sought arguments on an application seeking to unfreeze assets of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and members of his family.

Admin Judge Jawadul Hassan directed lawyers representing the Opposition Leader to appear on next hearing on August 27 to put forth their arguments in the case.

Shehbaz stated in his plea that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) froze his family’s properties in utter disregard for the actual facts as assets can not be frozen during the process of investigation.

Last year on December 11, the accountability court had ordered authorities to freeze properties of the PML-N president and his family.

The court, in its verdict, directed the authorities concerned to freeze all assets of Shehbaz Sharif, Hamza Shehbaz, Suleman Shehbaz, two wives of Shehbaz including Nusrat Shehbaz and Tehmina Durrani.

Moreover, the family members of Shehbaz was given 14 days to file objections.

Prior to that, the anti-corruption watchdog submitted the complete record of the assets of the Shehbaz family.

The latest mobile application has been developed to ensure strict security during Muharram-ul-Haram in Peshawar.

According to the superintendent of police (SP) city, details of Muharram processions’ routes and deployment of the police is installed in the app. Furthermore, all CCTV cameras are also installed in the app.

The app will help the police to monitor processions and Majalis online and deter any untoward incident.

In the Islamic lunar calendar, Muharram is the first month of the year thus the new year begins with the sighting of the crescent of this month. Shia Muslims observe this a month of mourning worldwide.

Last week, the Punjab government had imposed a ban on pillion riding for 9th and 10th of the Islamic month across the province.

The ban had been imposed under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code.

A former senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Dr Farooq Sattar, on Tuesday, termed Mayor Wasim Akhtar’s outburst at yesterday’s farewell press conference ‘crocodile tears’.

Speaking during a programme at a private TV channel, he said the Karachi mayor kept mum over four years of his tenure by operating in collusion (muk mukka) with parties he has now been complaining about.

Farooq Sattar said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) got Rs4 billion grant from the Sindh government every year for uplift schemes besides funds from the federal government yet the mayor had been griping about lack of funds.

Wasim Akhtar had gotten visibly emotional while addressing the farewell press conference at the KMC head office yesterday, throwing away bundle of letters, he said, he had written to the chief minister, the prime minister and others.

“I wrote several letters to the federal and Sindh governments for resolution of Karachi’s problems, but got no replies”, he said.
